Chapter 163 - SOMETHING’S WRONG

[KYLE POV]

I knew that something was off about today when I left the office. There had been an accident right in front of the doors. The people in the six cars that were involved looked to be hurt pretty badly and there were cops, ambulances, and firefighters on the scene. There was also the traditional crowd of gawkers that were watching on to see whatever carnage it was they could set their eyes upon.

The moment that I was out the doors though, I could smell something that made my skin crawl. I mean, just smelling a wolf shouldn't be that big of a deal. I was certain that there were probably at least ten wolves in the crowd watching the scene.

Still, this just didn't feel right to me. Why was there an accident? There didn't seem to be any cause for it. It didn't look like any of these cars had hit each other. No, it looked like these cars were all hit with something.

I couldn't shake that feeling. That feeling that something was wrong and that something was really, really wrong. Dammit, I need to get home right now. I just know that I won't like what I find when I get there.

I decided to leave my car where it was parked and just run home. It would be quicker with this mess here. While I was running, I decided to call Jacy. I needed to know that she was safe. That Maya was safe. That nothing bad had happened to them. I needed to hear her voice.

The phone rang and rang, again and again. In the end she didn't answer at all. The phone rang until her voice mail picked up.

"Fuck!" This was just confirming what it was that I thought was going on. I needed to call someone else, someone that might be able to get back to the house before me.

The phone was already ringing when I put it to my ear. At first, I thought the phone was going to ring until it went to voicemail again. However, after five rings the person on the other end finally answered.

"Hey there, Kyle dear, what can I do for you?" EZ's voice was calm and full of, well, EZ-ness.

"I think there's something wrong."

"Huh?" He didn't seem to know what it was that I was meaning at first. "Wrong with what?"

"Jacy! And Maya too." I was running in and out of the people that were filling up the sidewalk as I maneuvered around them all. "I am on my way home now  but I don't have my car. There was a very suspicious accident right in front of my office. You're in the city right now, right? Head over there for me, please. Take Bastian and Laremy with you. And call Deek, we might need him." I could hear the panic in my voice and then it dawned on me, I forgot one. "Lucian too. I am sure that we need his help."

"Kyle, calm down." I could hear a slight amount of panic in EZ's voice, and I could tell that he was on the move. Wherever he was, he was moving, and fast. "Tell me what you think might have happened."

"If my gut is right about this, it means that her cousin has finally made his move."

"Goddess no!"

I could tell that we were both thinking the same thing. If that truly was what this was about, it meant that Jacy's dream was coming true, and, if any part of that dream was true; it would mean that she would be outnumbered. Not to mention, she would put her all into protecting Maya.

"I'm on my way." I heard EZ confirm as the sound of an engine started in the background. "I will call Deek and Lucian, you call your buddies. If this is what you think it is, then we will need them on our side as well."

"I also vote that we call Justin and Thea." I heard Laremy's voice from the back seat. He wasn't wrong. We needed to take care of all of this.

I ended the call with EZ and felt a rush of anger and fear inside of me. I knew now why things felt so off. I could feel what it was that Jacy was experiencing. I was feeling her through our beast marks. This was what we had enabled the day that we each drew blood from each other during climax. This was the true power that we both could wield.

I tried my best to focus on the feelings I was getting from that mark Jacy put onto me while entering another name into my phone so that I could call Winston. I would tell him what was happening and let him call the others.

The call was similar but not exactly like the one that I had with EZ. Winston was shocked to hear what I was saying, but was already preparing to leave and meet me at my place.

All throughout the call with Winston I felt pain. I could tell that Jacy was in trouble, she was definitely fighting someone and she was being hurt back.

"Ah!" I called out as I felt a quick sharp pain in my chest. It felt like a punch straight to the ribs. Shit that would have broken the bones for sure.

"What is it?" Winston asked me as I resumed my running.

"She's being hurt. Most likely in a fight." I told him what I was feeling. "I am still about ten minutes away, unless I can get out of this stream of people. I need to be able to run faster."

"So the beast marks really do work." I heard his comment just a moment before a blinding pain in my head.

"Fuck!" This one nearly dropped me to my knees.

"What?" There was panic in Winston's voice now.

"They just hit her, hard, on the head." As I was recovering from what just happened, I felt another blow and this time I did fall to my knees. "Jacy?" I had to wonder if she was still alive after that. Those blows could have been death blows if they were done in the right place.

"Kyle?" I heard Winston calling out to me again.

"She's either dead or close to it." I heard the sound of an immense heart break in my voice. "I can still sense her, so I don't think she is dead, but she's unconscious now."

"Fuck." Tires squealed on Winston's end of the line. "I can't believe this is happening."

"I just need to get home. I have to hurry. I have to hope that they're still there when I get there."

"If they were even there to begin with."

"Shut up Winston." I snapped at him. "They have to be there. They have to be."

I ended the call and cut down a side street that I knew would be quicker than the road I was currently on. This way was usually the quickest but there were just too many people on the street at this time of day.

I cut down alleys and side streets so that I could avoid as many people as I could. Thankfully, I made it home in only five minutes instead of the ten that I had told Winston.

I wanted to hurry up the stairs, and if I hadn't seen the elevator opening to let an elderly man off the moment that I went into the building, I would have climbed all the way up the stairs. Thankfully, I managed to run past the sliding doors just in time. I didn't see any of the others when I came in, but that just made me hope they were already here.

The moment that the doors to the elevator opened, I could hear Maya. She was screaming and crying so loudly, that it was clear she had been doing it for a long time. I barely waited, the doors opened enough for me to squeeze past them. I was already running toward the door to my place which was standing wide open. Someone had broken the lock with a battery operated lockpick, they left it on the floor next to the door.

"Son of a bitch."

I ran through the door and instantly smelled the blood. You could tell at a glance that a fight had happened here. I didn't care about the state of the house though, I cared about the fact that I could smell Jacy's blood and that Maya was either hungry, scared, or hurt. I didn't know which one but I needed to get to her.

I was at the side of her bassinet in an instant. She didn't look like she was hurt, but her little tiny face was all red from how hard she had been screaming. I saw her bottle sitting on the floor, none of the formula had been used, she was hungry.

I wasn't going to use that bottle though. I didn't know If someone had done something to it. Just as I started to think about that and cradle my daughter to my chest, I heard someone getting off of the elevator. I was too focused on the scents in the room to have noticed who these people were, but thank the Goddess that it was EZ and the others.

"Oh no!" EZ sounded like he was the one that had been hurt as he scanned the room. "Where is Jacy? Where is my Jacy baby?" He was looking at me with tears already pouring down his cheeks.

"She's gone." I could feel the tears stinging my eyes as well.. "She's gone."
