Chapter 93 - MICROMANAGING THE OFFICE

Life was starting to get peaceful for me. And peaceful was kind of boring. It wasn't horrible, mind you. It's just that I didn't know what to do with myself.

I wasn't a homemaker. So sitting at home all day and trying to figure out what to do next for when Kyle got home from work would drive me nuts. I wouldn't be able to hold onto my sanity for very long if I tried to do that.

Kyle was great and all, and I can admit that I was pretty much head over heels in love with the man. All of that was well and good, but I wouldn't be waiting around being Suzie homemaker who baked cookies and made dinner and cleaned the house nonstop.

For one thing, I fucking suck at cooking. Kyle's amazing meals blew the paltry shit that I made out of the water. For another thing neither of us were messy people so I didn't have shit to clean all day. I could take care of what needed to be done for the day in less than an hour. And it was less than half that time if I waited until Kyle was home and we did it together. Plus there was the bonus of there being a massive laundry room where we could wash multiple loads of clothes here at one time.

No, if I just stayed home all day I would die of boredom or go insane. So, that's why I was working triple time to get my new office building up and running. We needed to make it presentable to customers and comfortable for all of us.

I didn't want a space that was going to seem uptight and too corporate like. No offense to Kyle and his office but that wouldn't suit me. Thankfully, though, he didn't say anything about the way that I was decorating things.

I had been coming to the office every day for the last three days so I could monitor what they were doing. The painting, the carpeting, everything that I could monitor I would.

"Control freak." Kyle purred from behind me. I had smelled his scent as soon as the elevator dinged a few seconds ago so I already knew he was here.

"What? I need to be here don't I? It is my office." I turned and smiled at him as sweetly as I could.

"I think you are going to give these poor workers a heart attack if you keep glaring at them and breathing down their necks." He snaked his hands around my waist and pulled me toward him as he spoke.

"If that is enough to give them heart attacks then they have no business working on my office." I giggled as I snaked my own arms around his neck. "All I am doing is making sure it is all coming out the way that I have planned. I want it to be perfect."

"I know you do, baby." He leaned down and kissed me gently. "But that doesn't mean you need to be here every second of the business day. Give them time to work. They might finish it sooner if you do." He was grinning now like he was planning something. I could tell there was something up his sleeve. I just didn't know what it was yet.

"Yeah? And what should I be doing right now instead, huh?" I tilted my head as if I was truly curious about what he was going to say. OK, I really was curious about what he was going to tell me but I didn't need to tell him that.

"Do you want to come with me to a meeting tomorrow?" He was giving me an innocent look, something that seemed a little forced. He was definitely up to something here.

"No thanks, I am not into tech talk meetings." When I saw his grin widen I knew that he hadn't been talking about a tech meeting.

"Oh, I have another meeting in mind." He wiggled his eyebrows at me. "This will be something really interesting. You get to be in charge of a lot of people while we are there too."

There was something a little evil in Kyle's eyes as he spoke just then. Just what exactly was he thinking about right now?

"What's up your sleeve?" I narrowed my eyes as I leaned away from him slightly.

"You wound me, sweetheart." I watched as he took his left hand from my waist and put it over his heart as if it suddenly hurt. "All I want is for you to come with me to meet my pack."

He was continuing to pretend to sound like he was sad and wounded as he told me this. I just rolled my eyes at his tone and tried to ignore it. Then his words actually hit me.

"Wait? What did you just say? You want me to meet your pack?" I was mesmerized for a moment then I had a thought that I couldn't keep to myself. "I didn't know cats referred to themselves as a pack. I guess you learn something new every day, huh." I laughed at the silliness of it all.

"Well, some of us call it a pack. The lions refer to our group as a pride. The tigers call it a streak. They use those terms because that's what they call the groups of those animals in the wild. A group of wild lions is a pride, a group of wild tigers is a streak. You know how it goes." His explanation was making some sense I guess.

"So what do they call a group of panthers?" I wondered as I leaned into him and nuzzled my cheek against his, that earned me a very cat-like purr from him.

"They don't have a name for a group of panthers since they tend to be solitary animals. A panther only needs his family. That is why I am good with running my pack the way that I am." His words surprised me, I didn't expect him to say that there was no group of panthers.

"Wait, what are you talking about?"

"Just like I said. There are no large groups of panthers. A lot of large cat breeds are like that. That is why it's OK to have one feline run a pack that is mixed with a bunch of us. It's not that bad since we all tend to stick to ourselves. All they need to do is get together for a meeting every other month and not cause trouble. When they do cause trouble I send someone in to stop them or end them. That's about it."

"That's it?" I scoffed at him. "Are you serious? That is nothing compared to running a wolf pack." I couldn't believe what he was telling me.

"Yeah, well, even in the animal world, especially domesticated ones, cats are more independent than dogs. They're a lot easier to manage." I just glared at him.

"Thanks for that analogy, tuna breath." I snapped at him which just made him laugh at me.

"And apparently felines are a lot more mature than dogs, I mean wolves. So come on Lady, let's go get you gussied up for a meeting with all the pretty kitties tomorrow." He was enjoying himself.

"Yeah, right now I am just picturing the cats from Lady and the Tramp, since you want to bring that up. Those cats were evil and the dogs were the true smart ones. Just so you know you shouldn't always believe what they say about cats and dogs."

"Don't worry, we can forge our own story about cats and dogs. I'm sure it will be an epic romance for the ages."

"And what ages are you talking about? The only cat and dog shows that come to mind for me were meant for kids but you and I are definitely rated R." I was laughing at my own joke.

"Jacy, honey, I don't know what you've been smoking to get you so messed up right now but we are definitely not R rated." He looked at me like he thought I was confused.

"Really? Then what rating would you give us?" I asked him in as innocent of a tone as I could possibly manage.

"That's an easy one. We're X rated. We've been x rated from day one, sweetheart. And I wouldn't have it any other way." I was so shocked by what he just said that I felt my jaw drop. I can't believe he just said that. And where these construction workers could hear him no less.

He laughed as he smacked my ass playfully. He then pulled me gently toward the elevator with him. He was being a little overbearing right now, but I guess it would be fun to meet his pack. I had never even seen someone that he was associated with before. I guess that this could be pretty interesting.
