Chapter 54 - TAKING CARE OF EVIDENCE

[KYLE POV]

I knew that Jacy was likely to sleep for a while. There were a few things I needed to take care of right now but I was reluctant to leave her side.

Ok, I was more than reluctant. I didn't want to leave her at all. I just felt like if I did leave her right now she would disappear on me again. I knew that was impossible but I was still worried about it.

Still, I needed to go take care of the situation at hand. So, with one last look back at her sleeping in the bed I cleaned up the mess that had been caused by my cleaning her up and made sure that there was no blood anywhere on me.

I left the cabin and drove Jacy's truck back to the house and went to a small convenience store that was nearby. Thankfully they had what it was I needed. I grabbed a few jugs of bleach and some laundry soap.

Next I went back to the house where I had found Jacy. There was evidence there that I needed to destroy. I knew that I couldn't get rid of all the blood with the limited amount of time that I had but I could destroy some of the evidence that Jacy and I had even been here.

First I found and burned the scrap of Jacy's shirt that the bear had ripped away, giving that asshole's dead body a well deserved kick while I was at it. Next I went to where Jacy had been laying and poured the bleach over everything that had even a drop of her blood on it.

After that evidence had been taken care of I went to the rental car and pulled the door open. I pulled the key from my pocket and put it in the car itself. While standing in front of the door I punched myself in the face, just hard enough to get some blood flowing.

I planted evidence that looked like I got blind sided and carjacked. Given my physical size and appearance no one would believe that I was so scared I handed over my keys. So, for that matter I needed to pretend that I had been hit with something as I turned around. Blood and saliva from the blow would be evidence enough.

The hit to my face, given that it was just the one, would heal quick enough. I would need to hit myself again later if I saw a cop in person. I hoped that wouldn't happen at all.

Now, I wanted to take a look inside the house and see what was going on in there. I knew from Ezekiel that Jacy was here to catch a bounty but things had taken a bad turn.

I could tell that the house was empty. I didn't hear or smell anyone inside the shithole. Making sure to touch as few things as possible I pushed the door open with my foot and walked inside.

The house was just as much of a shithole inside as it was outside. There was filth everywhere and it smelled strongly of drugs of many different kinds. I could tell at almost a glance what it was they were doing in here. This was a cook house.

They had been making various drugs in this house. As I searched even more though the rooms I saw something else that they seemed to be doing to make money.

There was only one room in the entire place that was clean. It was set up to look like a kid's room with a full size bed, dressers, and toys. It was eerie to see something like this in here.

In a trunk inside the room I saw that there weren't just toys for kids in here. There were several very adult oriented things in there and that turned my stomach. This was a cook house that doubled as a torture house for children. These men, all the ones that had been here, needed to die.

I needed to do one last thing to make all of this work perfectly. I needed to make sure I pinned all this on someone that could be found and taken into custody for this sick shit.

As I drove away from that house of horrors I called the second best hacker I knew, me being the best.

"Hello?" The man's voice was confused since he definitely didn't recognize the number that was calling him.

"Ezekiel."

"Ooh, if it isn't Jacy's kitty." I heard him giggle a little as he realized who had called him. "And how are things going for you? I heard she ran from you again."

"She did, and then she got herself into trouble just like I knew would happen. I need the information you gave her and I need to know who owns a specific house down here."

"Is Jacy OK?" He was genuinely worried, all sense of laughter and joking now gone from his voice.

"She should be, I will call you when she wakes up."

"Oh my God." I could feel his worry even over the phone.

"I am going to text you the address, work on that first, then email me the file you gave her."

"Yeah, alright, I will." I could hear him breathing heavily as he was coming to terms with what had happened. "Hey, Kyle, what would have happened if you hadn't gone after her?" I think he already knew.

"She would have died." I didn't beat around the bush.

"Then I am glad I told you what I did."

After I hung up the phone I texted the address to Ezekiel. He was quick and had sent me the name and full profile on the man who owned that house. I needed to know who it was and what he looked like so I could tell them who had carjacked me, or who I was saying carjacked me.

I had just rinsed out the bed of Jacy's truck, getting rid of her blood, when I got the info I needed. I put on a distressed tone of voice and called the cops. I told them what had happened and what place I was staying at now. I knew that a cop would show up eventually.

I had gotten back to the cabin, and reopened my 'wounds' by punching myself in the face again. I was glad I had opted to wear more casual clothes so that I didn't look like a businessman out of his element.

The cop knocked on the door and I greeted him with a pissed off look.

"Mr. Donovan?" The uniformed officer asked me.

"Yeah, that's me." I answered him. I had a blood stained rag in my hand, it was unnecessarily filled with ice to help with my nonexistent swelling. I had also put my blood stained shirt back on.

"I am here to follow up on the report you made for your rental car being stolen." The man was nice, soft spoken, and seemed just dumb enough to believe everything I told him.

"Yeah, I was out walking trails and right when I got to my car someone yelled at me from behind. When I turned to look he sucker punched me and took off with the car."

I had concocted a pretty stupid story in my head. I was an IT guy looking to reconnect with nature. I would not be coming back to this place because I didn't have to leave home to be in danger of car jackings. I had to walk from the trail I was at to this place that rented these cabins so it took me a while. Then I called them.

"I checked with the old man who rents the rooms here, he said you checked in maybe half an hour ago, I guess that matches your story." Either the old man was losing his time or he was more observant than I gave him credit for. Still, I hadn't expected them to check up on what time I had checked into the cabin.

"Yeah, I called you right after I checked in, I needed a place to rest."

"If you'd like I can give you a ride back to the inn you were staying at." I had actually told them on the phone where I was staying so this wasn't a shock for me to hear.

"I already paid for the night here so I will sleep here then go back to the inn tomorrow. It's not like I can get a refund on either place now."

"True." He was looking worried for me as he looked at my face where I had been hit. It wasn't bleeding anymore so he was probably calculating how long it might have been since I was hit. "So, do you have a description of the man who hit you?"

"I only saw him for a second. But I saw that his hair was red and he was maybe six foot one."

"You're a big man yourself, I'm surprised you were taken down like that."

"Yeah, well, he sucker punched me." I glared at the man like I had to worry about my pride now or something.

"True, even a weakling can win if they cheat." He laughed. "Sorry, I shouldn't laugh, this is pretty serious business here." Yet he was still laughing. "There was another guy with him. I didn't see him at all but I heard him say 'hurry up Jimmy'."

"Anything else?" He was writing this down in his notepad as he went.

"Yeah, the man who hit me, Jimmy, said 'shut up Polk.' After that the asshole who punched me pushed me aside and they hopped into the car. I haven't seen them since."

"Polk? Huh?" I watched as the man thought for a minute. "That's probably Craig Polk and that would make the other man Jimmy Lee."

"I take it that you know them?" I spoke in an exasperated tone of voice.

"They're a couple of local scumbags." Well, that was more than I expected the cop to say. "I will be in touch, how long are you going to be in town for?" The cop asked me with a curious look.

"Another couple days at most. I'm a city man at heart and this nature shit is already wearing me down." That made the cop laugh quite a bit, he was holding the door frame for balance with a hand over his stomach to stop the stitch that was likely developing in his side. He obviously thought that a city boy like me was being funny.

"If we can't wrap this up before you leave then we will be in touch."

After that he waved and left. Dammit that was annoying. But now I had the cops looking into the multiple murders and other crimes that had been happening under their noses. Ok, the murders were done by me, but hey, they tried to rape and kill my woman, they were essential. Still, this might make them tighten security around town a little more and that was needed.

Now, though, it was time for me to get back to Jacy's side.
