Chapter 52 - SAVING MY MATE

[KYLE POV]

That was when I saw that the man in the middle of that group, the ones kneeling on the ground, was punching at something. I saw blood spraying off of his fists with every blow. What was he hitting? Who was he hitting?

I knew without needing to ask those questions.

He was beating my mate. He was hitting my woman. He was hitting the woman who was carrying my child.

As soon as I realized what was happening I lost control. The last thing I consciously recognized was my beast screeching. It was a full on panther battle cry. I had not shifted but I had still produced that animal sound.

Then I gave myself over to my beast. Together, the two of us would avenge our woman. We would save her. We would get her out of here. We would make her understand that we were here for her whether she liked it or not.

I ran forward. Still on my two human feet. I was moving fast, faster than those that were holding my woman had thought possible.

By the time those assholes realized that I was even there I was already behind the man that was pummeling my mate. I grabbed the back of the man's head and pulled. I hadn't expected that my beast would partially shift my hand in the process.

When I lifted the very large man off of Jacy I had claws that had dug deep into his scalp. When I threw the man away from me I was showered in his blood, but that had happened just a moment after I felt my fingers slide through the bone and reach the soft tissue beneath. He was dead before he landed twenty feet away. The men who were surrounding Jacy and the others fled then, terror filling their scents.

I turned back then to look at the men who were still holding Jacy. All four of them had stunned looks on their faces after what had just happened. They couldn't believe that the monster that had been abusing my woman was now dead.

It took a few moments for them to begin to function again. By the time the ones near Jacy's arms were able to move I had sunk both my hands into the other two men. One into each of their backs. They immediately let go of her legs and began screaming.

I saw the other two men take off running toward the house so I did the only thing I could think of. I threw the two men I was currently holding like bowling balls. They soared through the air and landed with deadly accuracy right onto the two fleeing assholes.

I stalked over to them and watched as fear spread across their faces. You see, like Jacy, I too was a born Alpha and that made me the strongest of my type. These men had sensed what I was and they were rightfully afraid.

There was also the fact that a panther shifter was stronger than a wolf shifter on most occasions. Our animal counterparts in nature were bigger than the wolves you found in nature so it only made sense.

I had just caught up to the four men laying on the ground when there was a group of men running from the house. Only one of those men was a shifter, the rest were human.

That one shifter was a wolf and he was looking at me curiously before he led the others on a retreat, running away from the house. The ones in the house hadn't been hurting my mate so they weren't on my list, yet. I didn't know what had happened before I had gotten here.

The four men at my feet didn't last long. Not with my beast in control. With throats ripped out or their necks snapped they all perished almost as quickly as the first man I had pulled off of Jacy.

Now that the dangers were taken care of I could finally go to my mate's side. I could make sure that she was alright.

She most definitely was not alright. She was unconscious and covered in blood. There were cuts on her face from where that asshole had hit her repeatedly. She was bruised and most definitely broken judging by the look of the left side of her face.

I scooped Jacy up into my arms. My heart broke just looking at what I had allowed to happen to her. Had I just followed her when I wanted to originally she wouldn't have been hurt at all. Had I just been here with her she would have been alright. This was all my fault. I was such an idiot.

I wanted to take her back to the hotel, but they would definitely notice if I carried someone who looked like they belonged in a hospital into the room. Then, I remembered that I had seen some cabins for rent nearby. They were small things that didn't look like they got much business out this way but I was going to give it a shot.

I gently laid Jacy into the back of her truck and ran to my rental car. I need to clean myself up if I was going to rent one of those cabins. I changed my shirt and washed my face and hands off.

Once I was cleaned I loaded everything from my car into the truck. I was glad my instincts told me to be thorough in my prep work. I had plenty of stuff that would last us for the time being.

When I went into the rental office for the cabins I was pleased to find a very oblivious old man. He wouldn't remember anything later since he looked like he could barely see me.

"We usually only book these in advance." He spoke in a wobbly old voice with flapping lips, he was definitely toothless right now. "But I will make an exception since you're paying cash. There is a deposit that is nonrefundable since you're just walking in off the street."

"That's fine." I forked over the money and took the key to the cabin at the end of the row.

I drove around the back of the tiny little one bedroom building and carried Jacy in through the back door. I needed to lay her down on the bed and get her cleaned up. I pulled the sheets and blanket back one handed and then laid Jacy down on the pillow.. I knew that I was going to need to leave a massive tip to make up for all the blood stains we were going to leave behind.
