Chapter 39 - GETTING GRILLED

"Ooooh, that good huh?" I could see the excitement just expanding throughout all of EZ's body, he was loving this. "Do tell. Did he pull you into his arms and press you against the wall? Did he kiss you like the god he looks like? Tell me how he started it all anyway."

"I tried to get around him, but he just kept coming at me. He backed me against the wall, then-." I trailed off.

"Oooh, so he took the lead like that huh?"

"I kissed him first." I whispered the words so quietly that EZ couldn't hear them.

"What was that?" He wanted me to repeat the words since he hadn't heard them at all.

"I kissed him first." I said it just a little louder, but he still couldn't hear me.

"My ears aren't as good as yours, Jacy baby, I can't hear that."

"I KISSED HIM FIRST!" I screamed the words into the silent house, my heart racing and my breaths coming in pants and gulps of air.

"Oh my." I saw the smile and the blush that crept across his face then, he was definitely enjoying my struggle. That was when I put my face in my hands and groaned loudly.

"So, how was it the second time through, when you could remember it all?"

"Amazing!" The word was slightly muffled as I spoke against my hands but he still understood it. I pulled my face back and looked at him when I spoke next. "It was amazing. He kisses like a divine being. His hands are magic. His mouth was given to him by the devil. And don't even get me started on his other bits."

"No, come on, I wanna hear about that part too. Please Jacy, throw me a bone. Figuratively speaking of course. I know that Kyle Donovan has your bone right now."

"Shut up, you slut." I joked with him as a way to deflect.

"Me, the slut? I don't think so honey. You're the one that fell into bed with a man twice before you've even accumulated an hour's worth of conversation. I at least get that much, or a few dances. I don't just fall straight onto their-."

"I get it." I cut him off. "I get it. I am just as much a slut as you are. Fine."

"So, what are you going to do about your man?"

"He's not my man. I slept with him two times, that doesn't make us married."

"The fact that you slept with him twice means that he is special to you. You never see the same guy again. So, what happened here?" His memories of my past and the knowledge of what was typical for me and what wasn't made it hard for me to ever deceive EZ.

"It was probably just because I couldn't remember him. Now that I saw him again, know who he is and slept with him with a clear mind I'm done. It's out of my system. I never have to see him again." I don't know if my words were for EZ or me. "I just need to go to work and catch this guy, give Kyle some time to cool down and forget about me and that's that."

"Suuuure. Keep telling yourself that sweetie. I'll be waiting here for you when the other shoe falls."

"I'm never going to see him again. Ever."

"Uh huh." EZ was looking smug, like he didn't think my words were true. "What does the wolf in you have to say about all of this?"

"It doesn't matter what she had to say. She is going back into her cage with a bigger muzzle and a straight jacket for animals."

"She wants him that bad, huh?"

"No, she doesn't!" I snapped at him. "She's just horny because I have kept her locked away for so long."

"Whatever it is you need to keep telling yourself, Jacy. Whatever you need to do to get through your day."

"Oh just hush. I'm done with this conversation. I need breakfast and to get on the road. Do you have the file I asked for?"

"I've got it in the other room. Have your coffee and I will go get it."

While EZ went to get the file from his room I poured myself a cup of coffee. I usually drank it with cream and sugar but I was in a hurry so I just downed half the cup without adding anything to it.

I regretted that instantly. My stomach rolled and I felt like I was going to vomit. But I could still feel the caffeine hitting my system. I loved a shifter metabolism. The effects of medications and drugs hit us so much faster than others, the downside though was that they also wore off a hell of a lot quicker.

I was forcing myself to drink the rest of the coffee when EZ came back into the room. He took one look at my cup of black coffee and sneered, courtesy of the clear mug I was using.

"Gross, you never drink black coffee."

"I was in a hurry and wanted something stronger." I held my hand over my mouth after I spoke, the urge to vomit was still there.

"You look sick." He noted when he saw the way I was acting.

"The coffee isn't agreeing with me. I will need to use the cream and sugar again in the future."

"Are you sure you're going to be OK?" He looked worried about me.

"I'll be fine." I set the empty mug down and fought off the urge to vomit again. "See, all better."

No sooner had those words come out of my mouth than another wave of nausea hit me. I rushed to the sink and ejected all the coffee I had just drank.

"Well, that's a waste." EZ commented with a disgusted look on his face.

"Yeah, note to self, black coffee is the worst."

"Are you sure that's all it is?"

"Yeah, I didn't feel sick until then. Plus, you know we shifters don't get sick like humans do."

"I know, it's just, that isn't normal."

"I'll be fine. Let me have the file. I'll get another cup of coffee when I go to breakfast."

"Here." He handed over the pink file folder, you will never see plain colors when EZ was involved. "All his data: known associates, family members, and the last activity on his bank and credit cards."

"You're the best." I smiled at him after I finished rinsing my mouth out with water, and incidentally rinsing the sink out as well.

"Take care of yourself, Jacy, I can't manage my life without you."

"You're fine EZ. You don't need anyone else. But I will be back soon, I just need to put this guy behind bars first."

"I'll be waiting for you."

With that I left EZ's place and headed back into the city.. I needed some food and it was time for me to think.
