162 The Laughing Irony

"That little bastard!"

Drax cursed as an invisible chained tightened around his neck. His cultivation oddly had fallen to the fifth qi condensation.

Walking beside him was an odd demon beast that appeared to be a mixture of a slug and a frog, It followed Drax where ever he went.

There was something peculiar about the two's interaction. It appeared they were both conversing however it was evident the demon beast had not arrived at the ninth stage as of yet.

A chill coursed through his body as he thought about the origins of the chains. They were made of shadows which were cause for alarm.

All knew that there were two elements that were quite rare among the lot. They were a higher tier compared to the rest, these two were light and darkness.

It wasn't as rear however in demon beast as they were a different species.

The light element he knew normally appeared within an individual with a high affinity for the spirits and the darkness appeared in the nemesis of spirits which was devils.

That meant that the youth who called himself Sir Mouse was a devil.

Prior, he has never met a devil, still, their tales are known by all. The massacring of entire countries for ritual sacrifices.

These were individual no cultivator with an ounce of common sense would hope to be associated with.

Yet he had had such unfortunate luck bumping into one. Obviously the Mouse was a young genius from a large devil clan and the Dark Abylis Sect is under their reigns.

At least this was what he assumed given all the information at his disposal. As Drax made his way to his tent he paused for a bit before sighing then looking at his demon beasts and patting it.

After patting its head the beast made its way in another direction not taking a look back. Drax then made his way into the tent where he saw a handsome man of slender built sitting.

"You really should clean up the place a bit Drax. It's the same pigsty from yesterday. The floors are unswept and the plates unwashed.

A lot can be said about a man by the way he keeps his castle. Don't you think?"

As Benzalo spoke his eyes were unmoving from Drax who didn't seem surprised with his visit. Drax then remarked,

"We have done all that you requested and the mission was a success."

His words apparently pleased Benzalo who smiled but took a momentary pause before replying.

"I am surprised that you are all that remains. I at least expected Sarabi or Vulture to make it out due to their reputation. It appears I underestimated the strength of the three squads."

Hearing Benzalo's words Drax would not let him be any wiser as to how wrong he was. Especially with that shadow technique, the Mouse had put in place. Would he dare try to go against a devil?

"How about the emblem and pins? Were they dispersed as I request to all parties involved?" 1

To Benzalo's question, Drax only nodded yes in response. As he continued,

"Were they discovered?"

Once more Drax nodded his head motioning yes. Find authorized novels in Webnovel, faster updates, better experience,Please click www.novelhall.com for visiting.

"You do know how sorry I am for your loss?"

There seemed slight pity in Benzalo's words after his utterance.

Drax, however, couldn't care less about his sympathy. He then looked Benzalo in the eye and with a serious tone uttered,

"Is this the part where you kill me now."

To this Benzalo could only sigh before replying,

"You always were a smart one Drax, if your aptitude was a bit better and your ceiling had not yet been reached, you sure would have brought something to the lord realm. how did you know?"

To his question, Drax replied with a wry smile,

"We as mercenaries know certain targets are unrelenting after the death of their members. If you want to sell your lie all parties involved must be dealt with.

No witnesses mean no trace and we both know the Mercenary Contract in place has its loopholes,  which a sect such as the Dark Abylis can exploit at their whims."

Drax then summoned a cigar to his hands as he spoke,

"You don't mind if I have one for the road, do you?"

Puffs of smoke escaped from his nostrils as he smiled in ecstasy.

" There is a funny story behind these cigars. I had received them from a target after he had resigned to his fate. It turns out his wife was the one who hired the hit.

There was no mercenary contract in place so I did confirm his suspicions. After he wept he began to laugh then took out a box of cigars. Apparently he had it imported a decade prior.

He asked if he could smoke just one for the first time. As he smoked he laughed as he found solace knowing there was one item after his death that would not be defiled by his deceitful wife."

Drax laughed as he regaled his tale but seated a slight distance away Benzalo could not see what was so funny.

"I see you don't see the funny side, huh. It amuses me because now I am the one requesting a smoke from my murderer.

He took the first from the box and now I, the last. It's perfect irony or better yet karma. Will he laugh with me in the afterlife I wonder."

Puck!

A thick nail pierced through Drax's skull as he had his last cigar still seated on the chair while his big arms fell. The cigar still lit at the end fell on the cold hard floor.

Sigh

" You've played your role old friend, it's just business."

Benzalo uttered as he looked on Drax's headless corpse. He then walked holding the cigar in his hand while saying,

"Nasty habit, however, I will honor you with a smoke."

He then used his finger to lit the cigar once more as he puffed. His fingered then flickered as he set the body ablaze and then the whole tent. Afterward slowly walking out with not even a soil on his clothing.

????????????????????

To the southeast of the burning tent gathered were all the surviving members from the Dark Abylis Sect.

"Huh?"

Taf who was holding May suddenly turned his head to the north as if sensing something. This puzzled May who saw his slight movements.

"What's wrong?" She asked knowing something had occurred. Taf then whispered in her ear,

"It's a long story. I'll tell you when we are alone."

She nodded seeing that everyone was here. That meant any sensitive matter could not be discussed in the open.

Taf still looked north as a mere second prior he felt his darkness art had been nullified. This either meant Drax had overpowered his submission or he had been killed.

He felt the latter option more plausible as he had assessed all the strength Drax could muster while scouring his body with his heavens Art.

What would be the point of killing Drax especially at this juncture? Different scenarios ran through his mind yet none made sense.

The more this mission went on the stranger it became it seems.
