97 Two Meters Away

May was suppressing her laughter as she watched Keira filling up a sandbag.

They needed five minutes more to complete their twenty-minute squats. But it was so damned hard to concentrate, as they watched Keira serving her punishment.

After the squats, they still needed to carry a water jug above their heads, do push-ups on top of a sandbag and do sprint drills in the sand.

Their platoon was conscious of their punishment. She would rather do their current punishment than do what Keira was doing at that moment.

"I feel like filling this sandbag will take me forever," Keira mumbled as she used as many forks as she could hold.

"You can do it… Grab more sand, Miss Sandwoman!" May chuckled with a teasing tone.

Keira was actually exhausted as she said, "Stop it, May. I almost died, but that General still punished me like this. I feel like crying."

She did not care at all that her team would hear her.

"He probably wants you to learn to chew your food as long as it takes you to fill that bag so you won't choke ever again," commented Vel that made all of them laugh.

Zach passed by with Sergeant Cole and watched Keira's unit from a distance.

"Once her team finishes their punishments, have them help Soldier Chan with filling the sandbags.

"Yes, General," Sergeant Cole said as she walked towards the soldiers.

Zach stayed at the same spot and was startled when Cielo patted his shoulder.

"Don't be so worked up. Look at you, trying so hard to act like a villain and yet you are still monitoring her every move," she murmured.

Zach told her everything and even asked about the things that he should do to make Keira think that he didn't like her at all.

It was odd for Cielo because Keira did what she couldn't.

In every close friendship between a boy and a girl, it was actually true that in 99.9% cases one would fall for the other, one way or another.

And sadly, Cielo was felling an unrequited love towards Zach.

However, she chose to maintain their friendship and move on because Cielo knew that Zach would never look at her as anything but a friend.

Her woman instinct was telling her that Zach had special feelings for Field Marshal Chan's daughter, whether he admitted it or not.

"Everything can be talked out properly, you know. Be honest with her. That's better. Instead of doing things against your will, you should tell her what's really bothering you, why you can't reciprocate her feelings. She seems mature to me though, and I think she will understand. Hmmm, maybe she will, though I can say she's stubborn…" Cielo commented that made Zach smile.

"I will think about it. What would be the best…" Zach murmured, not turning his sight away from Keira.

Choking could be life-threatening and he almost had a heart attack seeing Keira turning blue.

What's more, what if her parents found out about it. He could understand well Mrs. Chan's sentiments.

If someone asked him, he would not want to see Keira at the battlefield at all, but Keira seemed to be having an adrenaline rush whenever they were doing combat training.

He couldn't deny the fact that he liked Keira Chan but he did not want a relationship at all. It was for everyone's welfare, Keira and his.

Cielo was right, Keira was a stubborn woman and telling her these things, he felt like it's meaningless because he could see her tendencies of doing the things as she wanted regardless of the circumstances.

So, he was going to stick with his plan, pretending that he hated her and ignore all the things she would do to get his attention.

Meanwhile, Keira noticed Zach from afar.

'You are really testing my patience, huh?' she mused.

She was thinking about various ways of how she could corner him and get a chance to talk with Zach alone.

The Meteor Den was always the first option, but she felt that Zach would try to avoid her there, though she would still continue going there every night before the curfew.

She noticed Zach walking towards them.

'Shall I act as I would faint now?' she thought as she began acting worn-out.

"Lana, I feel so dizzy like I'm going to pass out anytime soon," she mumbled.

"What?" Lana yelled as she maintained her balance of the water jug on her head.

Keira could see Zach from the corner of her eyes. He was only three meters away and she looked around to see who was the nearest to come to her rescue.

It was Sergeant Cole, so she waited until Zach reached two meters away before she closed her eyes and dropped her body on the ground.

"Keira!" she heard her team shout.
