Cassandra looked at Rufus and hesitated for a moment. She bit her lower lip as if out of habit.

She couldn't watch her comatose sister lie in bed while her mother bawled by the bedside. She was feeling guilty and she never knew what to do when it came to her family.

"I know, but I just can't forgive myself. I can't let this be!" she explained.

She lowered her eyes to avoid Rufus's gaze, and her eyelashes were blocking her eyes. The shadows of her eyelashes made her look exhausted and dispirited.

Rufus felt a pang of pain shoot through his heart. He gazed at her helplessly. He knew that Cassandra was softhearted and considerate, but sometimes he wished that she could put more attention to herself and not others. It would make her much happier.

"Cassandra, I know that your mother and sister are important to you, but blaming yourself won't help them. Think about it! Your mother needs you, your sister needs you as well, so you need to be strong. Especially right now, you can only take care of them when you can take care of yourself. Do you understand?"

he said as he reached out his hand and touched her hair. Cassandra was always proud of her hair and it was as soft as the most glorious silk.

Cassandra was still unable to stop blaming herself. She understood that Rufus was right, but it didn't mean that she could do it right away.

"Don't worry, and I'll take care of everything!" Rufus whispered into her ear.

Cassandra was comforted by Rufus's assurances and she eventually calmed down. As long as Rufus was by her side, she knew she could handle anything.

She nodded to Rufus and walked inside the ward. Her mother was still sobbing and she stopped, wiping her tears away when she saw Cassandra enter.

"Mother, please don't worry. Rufus and I talked with the doctor just now. Cloris is getting better and we're lucky we found her just in time. Mother, she will be fine and all we can do now is wait," Cassandra said in a gentle tone.

She looked relieved and was even able to force a smile at her mother.

Edith looked at her and then averted her eyes to Cloris, who was lying still on the bed. She was unable to put her heart at rest as long as Cloris wasn't awake yet.

"But when will she wake up? Can the doctor assure me that...that she'll wake up?"

She didn't completely believe what Cassandra said but she hoped that it was true.

"Mother, it was carbon monoxide poisoning, so it might have damaged her brain. The doctor said that falling into a coma was her body's defense mechanism. That means she's getting better even if it doesn't seem like it. Cheer up and she needs our support. I believe Cloris will wake up and she'll be glad to know that we believe in her the entire time."

Cassandra tried her best to remain positive and convince her mother to do the same.

"So the best thing you can do now is take care of yourself and just continue talking to Cloris. The doctor said it might help if yo

ho seemed to like being in control and having people to control.

"Oh and Mr. Tang, I apologize if this seems like it's out of nowhere, but I've heard that you and your oldest son have had a misunderstanding or conflict of some sort recently?"

Chester said unexpectedly. Horace was taken aback.

He wondered where Chester heard that.

"Yes, we're not on speaking terms right now. He's quite stubborn,"

Horace chose his words carefully because he didn't want any issues to arise.

"Really? As far as I'm concerned it's more than that, Mr. Tang. I wonder why he didn't bother to help you. You know, as the president of TY Group, why does he act so ruthless to watch your company dying?"

Chester put on a cold, knowing smile, as if he knew more than he was letting on.

Horace's mouth dropped, flummoxed as to the man's intention on why he was mentioning Rufus at all.

"I'm getting old, you know. I don't know what's hip and trendy with these young people. But as far as I'm concerned, Rufus just minds his own business."

He didn't want to admit that Rufus left the company and broke with him. It was embarrassing.

"Oh! I see. But they say that Rufus doesn't even acknowledge you as his father in public," Chester countered.

He was getting more and more offensive by the minute. Horace was at a loss as to what to say.

"We don't have to talk about this anymore, Mr. Cheng. I was young back then, foolish and prone to mistakes. I wasn't there for him much when he was growing up. But the past is the past and we can't change that anymore."

Horace's face had reddened out of embarrassment. It just wasn't the type of thing to talk about with a stranger. It was very offensive and frankly, disrespectful.

People gossiped a lot and they definitely talked a lot about him especially when he invited Rufus back to the company. But this was the first time that anyone had asked him directly. It was as if he was doing it on purpose to trigger him.
