"You also received one, didn't you?"

Clark asked Cassandra, holding out the invitation card Rufus had sent to him.

Cassandra only nodded without a word, lowering her head.

"What on earth is Rufus thinking, asking us to attend his engagement ceremony?" Clark spat angrily. "Hasn't he done enough? Why does he have to insult you like this?" Reaching out a hand to her shoulder, he said, "Don't worry, I will go with you."

Cassandra felt numb as she looked at the card. She had no words.

"I would rather not go..."

she replied weakly. She wanted nothing to do with Rufus anymore, let alone going to his engagement ceremony.

Cassandra knew that she hurt his pride not long ago. Soon after that, he announced his engagement and an invitation found itself to her. She knew that everything was meant to taunt her, so of course she didn't want to go. It would only be the coldness of his eyes, and another woman beside him waiting for her. There was no need for her to face that pain and invite humiliation.

"Don't be afraid. I'll be with you. You can't just let him do as he pleases. I guarantee that no harm will come to you,"

Clark tried to persuade her. There was a flash of malicious glint in his eyes.

'I can't believe that you could manage to seduce Rufus in such a short time, Amanda. I have to admit that I'm quite impressed, ' he thought to himself.

'Unfortunately, I need a little more time. Cassandra is much more difficult to deal with than that man.

Besides... I can't let you just take the spotlight. I can't stand it when someone beats me in the race. Getting engaged so soon? I don't think so, Amanda. I won't let you get what you want so easily. You can be sure that there will be hell to face during the ceremony when I go there, ' Clark thought sinisterly. He wouldn't let Amanda beat him, not when he hadn't had his fun yet.

"I really don't want to go, Clark," Cassandra protested. "Rufus and I are not neither kith nor kin. We're practically strangers, and it's

Falling from nobility, Zen Luo became a humble slave and served as a human punchbag for his former cousins. Inadvertently, he found a way to refine himself into a weapon and a legend started because of that. With a strong belief in never surrender, he strove for revenges and pursued big dreams. Warriors from various clans contended for hegemony and the world was stirred. Relying on the body that was comparable to a powerful weapon, Zen beat his numerous enemies on his way to the immortality. Would he succeed eventually?

ndra had always been obedient to her mother, so she gathered her courage, taking Edith's incitation and Clark's encouragement.

"Alright then… I will go,"

she nodded after thinking for a while. It didn't sound like a bad idea if Clark would go with her anyway.

"That's my girl! Don't worry about anything. We'll dress up and show you off. You will look absolutely stunning. We will teach that Rufus a good lesson and show him what a fool he has been!"

Edith chimed in, secretly giving Clark a wink.

Making Cassandra to attend the ceremony was just the tip of the iceberg. There was a far bigger purpose she was after. This would be the perfect opportunity for Cassandra and Clark to get closer.

If the two announced their upcoming engagement at that ceremony, more people would know about their closeness. There was a good chance that a quick development would follow, especially with outside influence.

Clark picked up on Edith's message quickly, and he made the 'OK' sign with his hands without Cassandra knowing it.

Cassandra, on the other hand, was in the absolute dark about their plans. She thought that she was simply going to face Rufus, and find a way to finally and truly move on. She had no way of knowing that the decision she made after taking their advice was one she would deeply regret in the future.
