Of course, Charlie knew Rufus quite well. There would be no holding him back once he had his mind set on doing something.

There was nothing he could do but heave a heavy sigh, shaking his head trying to learn to live with it.

Rufus squinted his eyes, contemplating what could possibly be going through his mind.

As of late, the Dawn Star Group had begun making its moves, as if to get themselves ready to go head-to-head with the Tang Group. Taking Arthur's radical course of actions into consideration, any normal person with a decent set of eyes would be able to figure out that he was scheming to take down the Tang group.

'But... Tang Group has been my target all this time. How can I simply let others do as they please and lay a finger in my pie?' Rufus thought deeply.

A cold-hearted look briefly radiated from his hunter-like sharp eyes.

Cassandra had been hospitalized for about a week. During that time, the police came for a visit in order to interview her. But in the end, the entire investigation inadvertently came to a dead end.

The accident Cassandra had gotten involved in occurred in a secluded place without any surveillance cameras set up in the area. So, the two men had managed to flee from the scene without leaving a trace, making it a gargantuan task for the police investigators to track them.

The accident then became an unresolved case. What seemed strange though, was that Cassandra barely said anything, save for a few choice words, to the police about the issue when they were asking her. And to add to that, she had been showing neither signs of distress nor indications of anxiety in front of her visitors.

"I don’t want a divorce!"

"I did no such thing!"

Ella jumped on the bed and cried out. “I don’t want a scheming woman as my wife. Just sign the paper...

Notwithstanding the fact that they had actually met again and again for a countless number of times, Cassandra would only see him as one of her closest friends.

When she was married, he had no choice but to stand in a corner and watch over her from afar, quietly wishing the best for her.

It even came to a point where she got divorced and turned around to throw herself into another man's arms. Still, all he could do was try not to stand in her way, silently staying with her whenever she'd reach a bump in the road, suffering and enduring the pain from her every misfortune.

And now that she was finally available again, without a boyfriend, and caught up in a precarious situation, the first thing that came to his mind was a wish to protect her as best he could and keep her safe for the rest of her life.

He wanted to wrap his arms around her and give her a shoulder to lean on, to cry on, and to give her a place she could call home...

He couldn't bear to see her crying anymore. It broke him every time he saw her in so much pain. All he ever wanted was to look at her smile each and every day.

Politely smiling back at him, Cassandra pulled away in a heartbeat.
