Chapter 28:Settling Knight

Jonas felt like someone was staring at him.

He had a special ability since young, where he could notice if someone was looking at him even on a bustling street.

His life took a turn when people found out about his ability.

A merchant's second son rose to be a Knight Servant in the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad, the strongest squad in the Kingdom. In fact, he was personally guided by the vice captain, an honorable Knight of the nobles.

Jonas found out later that his ability was known as a "Divine Ability". According to the vice captain, he was half a step to being an Extraordinaire as he had some of the traits.

After training hard for some time, he could definitely become a real Extraordinaire, and would become the sharpest lance in the Feathered Hawk Knight Squad!

An Extraordinaire was an official Professional, and only one who possessed extraordinary powers was addressed as such.

While the big Feathered Hawk Knight Squad had three thousand members, less than a hundred of them were Professionals.

They were the squad's real combat power, whereas the rest in the squad were only members who served them. Nevertheless, the Knight Squad was still the main force in fights against the Beastmen.

This was because the squad was extremely powerful even without the Professionals.

Since Jonas could possibly become a Professional, he was always admired… And envied by many of his associates in the Knight Squad.

The brawny man who was carrying out a mission with him at the moment was one of them.

"I think someone noticed us, and he's looking at us now," Jonas quickly said to his partners, "Should we retreat for now?"

"No, our mission is to find out about the person in this Mage Tower!" The brawny man spoke rudely, "A fella who's not even an official Mage is at most an apprentice! We have 3 High-rank Knight Servants here, so we'll just fight if something goes wrong!"

In contrast with an official Mage who was at the top after becoming a Professional, a Mage's apprentice was at the bottom among the apprentices of other Professionals.

Without a strong body, one needed to meditate for a long time with one's mind, and had to pay attention to not go out of tune during chants. It was normal for a Mage's apprentice to be so seriously troubled by the numerous negative states that one did not have much combat power.

On the other hand, a mediocre Knight was the strongest when one was still an apprentice.

A High-rank Knight Servant could defeat 5 Mage apprentices during a war, let alone 3 Knight Servants.

Since they had 3 Knight Servants on their side, and the tower was just a small building that looked like a Mage Tower, the brawny man thought light of whoever was in the tower, and was unwilling to monitor from the outside anymore.

"Alright, it's better to save unnecessary trouble now," The other Knight Servant finally spoke, "A few days ago, an army of Beastmen snuck past the Kingdom's border and swept through a few cities, causing many Settling Knights to fall into their clutches. This is why the Count asked us to find new Settling Knights to be stationed on the border to resist the first wave of attack on the Kingdom.

"If the person in the tower is suitable, he can probably gain the title of a Settling Knight."

Being the leader among the three of them, he had the final say, and everything should be done according to his orders.

"Tsk." The brawny Knight Servant looked away as he was indignant. He thought to himself, 'Another lucky fella.'

A Settling Knight was a unique position that was handed down from when the Kingdom was established.

It could not be described specifically in a few words. In simpler terms, it was similar to the lowest rank of nobility, but was an exceptionally rare opportunity to enter higher management as a civilian.

Settling Knights would normally appoint some powerful locals with strong influence to form a team to settle dangerous areas. If the settling was successful, the Settling Knight would gain a real rank of nobility.

Nevertheless, the death rate of Settling Knights had remained high since ancient times, and there were very few who managed to be granted as nobles.

Even so, the few lucky ones could make countless civilians push forward fearlessly, and they were determined to earn the title for their future generations.

Lin Ke had no idea that the few Humans whom he was looking at were about to make him a Settling Knight. He noticed that they left with their horses after having a discussion.

The same thing happened previously, where they left as soon as he saw them. Since that was the case, he was certain that it was not a coincidence.

"They noticed that I was looking at them?" Although Lin Ke asked himself, he was sure of the answer. He rubbed his beard and began thinking.

He could not be bothered about who those men were, because he only wanted to know if he could use them to fight against the Werewolves who were ready to attack.

While he was unsure of their strength, he could tell from how they moved around the area that they were not concerned about the Werewolves.

This meant that they had something valiant to rely on.

Furthermore, their uniforms showed that they belonged to the same force, which was likely a powerful one.

Lin Ke scratched his head, then left the Tower Sight after the men could not be seen anymore. He waited for the Advanced Developments in the Library to end.

The developments did not consume any Resources, because the only thing needed was time.

For someone poor and blank like Lin Ke, it happened to be something useful yet useless at the same time.

It was useful because the Werewolves' attack was a pressing problem, and time was crucial. After all, he needed plenty of time to grow.

On the other hand, it was useless because he was short of Resources, and could only spend time increasing them. The time wasted during this period did not matter.

Lin Ke spent his time doing nothing while the hour passed.

When he finally opened Dra and Avina's Character Attribute Interface, he noticed that they were both Level 4.

"Nice, it's great!"

Lin Ke could not help but shout and cheered happily.

He then looked at his interface, and saw that he was still Level 3.

At that moment, he was extremely grateful to the game developers for allowing a Hero's Level to exceed a Player's Level.

"Very well. Since they can level up, their strength will improve."

Lin Ke was extremely excited, so he put Dra and Avina under a new Advanced Development.

This time, instead of choosing the 1-hour option, he decided to let them go through 12 hours of Advanced Development.

With that, Avina and Dra would advance to Level 8 or 9. He would repeat the process at night, and was sure that they could easily take out a Werewolf den tomorrow.
