Chapter 198 - Half-siblings

Refusing to open her mouth was putting a second thought on Devin's brain.

Without lifting her head, Leena continued to gaze at the floor as if it was the most interesting thing at the moment. How should I tell him that he was not her first kiss? Leena never thought that she would survive the accident. What has gotten into her on that night, she doesn't know. She was not even in her senses when her knight in shining armor has rescued her. She had cracked bones, blood was dripping from her body, she was barely breathing while he was holding her to his c.h.e.s.t providing all the support. He has no relationship with her, a stranger but still chose to help her. She was whispering into her ear providing her strength and that moment she pressed her lips against his and that's the only thing she remembered before passing out.

"Sweetheart, you should not keep mum when I am asking you a question." Devin lifted her chin to meet her gaze. Leena was finding it arduous to look into his eyes.

"Why does it matter now?" She yelled. "Do you only like v.i.r.g.i.ns?"

"I am just curious, sweetheart." He chuckled. Now he was sure she has kissed someone other than him.

Before Devin would probe further, Leena changed the course of the topic. "I heard Ethan is your cousin,"

'Did she think that I would leave the matter aside? I know how to get to the bottom of it.'

For now, even he left the topic aside and focused on her question.

"How did you know he is my cousin?" Devin asked crossing his arms.

"I have my ways." She did not want to bring Drew into the subject when she was the one who pestered him.

"Let's go inside first. You are wearing almost nothing." He lifted her by the waist and carried her inside effortlessly.

"Didn't you drool at my body back in the bedroom?" Leena teased throwing her arms around his neck for support. "Didn't you like it?"

"I prefer them on the bedroom floor." He whispered stealing a peck on her lips.

Leena blushed and buried her face on his c.h.e.s.t. Despite she is getting used to his naughty side, she couldn't help but flush.

Devin dropped her on the bed and climbed on it and pulled the blanket up to her chin.

"Now tell me your relationship with Ethan," Leena asked. She was curious about how they ended up as cousins. One is so caring while the other is...she doesn't want to describe her hatred for him.

"Mom is from Davies's family." Devin started.

"What?" She screamed. "So, aunt Eve and Ethan's dad are siblings?"

"Half-siblings." He explained. "My grandmother couldn't give birth for many years and my sc.u.m grandfather married for the second time. So Ethan's father was born to a second wife. But soon, my grandmother also gave birth but she couldn't survive due to severe bleeding and infections. Since then mom was alone and she was treated as a bad omen. The Davies family never cared for her. Ethan's dad was a good person but he never went against his mom. So, he wasn't much support."

"I did not know aunt Eve's family is such a wicked one." Leena felt bad for her. Just because her mom died, did they have to consider it a bad omen? "So, it was an arranged marriage with uncle Fredrick?"

"No. They loved each other. Dad didnot tell when and where they met and he always tells it is a secret between them" Devin chuckled when he shared the same feelings when he met Leena at the bathroom. "When they were still in love, Davies's family have arranged a marriage alliance with a man twice the age of her. Mom protested but they did not listen and one-day mom eloped with dad and got married secretly. Since she married without their consent, they have cut off ties."

"Good that it happened. Aunt Eve is happy in our home. Everybody accepts her."

"Hmmm..." Devin hummed in reply. Everybody accepted her except one person but it did not matter since she is not in the family now.

"I heard you don't get along with Ethan in the school. Why?" She asked.

"I have no idea of his animosity, sweetheart. He would always in for fights." He felt that it's because of Ethan's mom. Though Devin doesn't like Ethan, he is pitied for having such a vicious mother.

"He must be jealous of your looks, babylicious." Leena giggled. "Alright. I am sleepy. Tomorrow, I am taking you to meet my mom."

"Can we go next week, Leena?" Devin begged, getting all nervous.

"No. It's tomorrow and I finalized." Leena stubbornly declared.

"Fine monster." He sighed and went into the blanket pulling her closer.

....

Sun rose softly on the city streets bringing with it a flurry of early morning activities. Leena dragged Devin and both stepped into the car. Since he was feeling nervous, Leena did not let him drive the car. All the way, she was laughing at his nervous state. He reprimanded her for being anxious on the day she was about to meet this family and now he is in the same position as her.

"You were not nervous while meeting Francy and Meemaw."

"It's because I have been seeing them for a long time."

"You don't need to get nervous, babylicious. I have shown her your picture and mom likes you already."

"Thanks for considering sweetheart." With a mock, he added. "Now concentrate on the road."

"Concentrate on the road." She parroted him and when they reached the destination, Leena grabbed his nervous hand and dragged him to the hospital. When she opened the door of the hospital room, a woman was sitting next to Heather. It was no surprise for Leena.

"Aunt Eve." Leena waved at her fervently. Seeing his nervous stance, Leena called Evelyn so that he would feel little ease when his mom is around while talking to Heather. Since yesterday night he has been eating Leena's brain asking if her mom would like him or not. Finally, she couldn't bear him and she kicked him out of the bed.
