Chapter 270 - Discrimination

Nick descended from the sky into the city but rather than the awe he was expecting to find on the mortals faces he found despise. the looks on the mortals faces made it clear that he wasn't welcome here so he simply ignored them after he landed. as nick walked through the city he had been spat at and even had a few people throw food and other items at him much to his irritation. even after all of this nick ignored the citizens of this city continuing to observe the area to learn more about it. nick spent a few hours observing the various parts of the city and using the information he got from it figured out how this kingdom roughly worked. nick learned that the hostility he experienced was because this kingdom was locked in a perpetual war with its neighboring kingdoms and as a result the residents of the kingdom had built up a generational hatred of foreigners. other than that nick learned that all forms of commerce were heavily controlled by the royal family with an iron grip. he immediately knew that the reason for this was so it was almost impossible for a rebellion to start since any purchase was logged and reviewed immediately.

Oddly nick saw that besides insuring their continued rule the royal family could be considered extremely kind towards their subjects as even nobles were subject to the laws in place. this was further pointed out by the three types of law enforcement members that existed. the first was for mortal civilians and nobles to ensure order. the second was for cultivators both foreign and domestic one of which was the man nick had met earlier. the final type however existed to punish members of the royalty and were held in the highest respect by all of the people of the kingdom including the royalty. the last type existed solely to insure that tyranny from the royals simply couldn't happen. nick wondered how this could work with the resources for cultivation that the royals had but further investigation had revealed that this group actually only had the most powerful cultivators in the kingdom or those with the talent to reach that height. nick had used his thousand faces technique to change his shape into that of a native with average features before purchasing an inn room at the same price as any other native rather than what he would have had to pay.

Unknown to him at the time nick was being followed by a cultivator with profound concealment skills that was watching his every move. this individual was in fact sent to observe nick to discover if he would be a problem but as far as this observer could tell nick was far more patient and lenient than most cultivators which bothered this person.. the reason they were bothered is because of the oppressive presence that nick naturally exuded from his royal fiendgod bloodline.
