Chapter 226 - Business And Crimes

The party was spectacular. It's the new opening of a building where there's a supermarket, a floor for apartments, clubs, bars, and restaurants. They named it One Night Resort. Anyone could rent an apartment for a day or two or three. But mostly, in that area, the people who invested were adulterers and cuckoldry. Most people are there to hook up but since it's business, it's not illegal. Some couples also came in.

"You look dashing, Lady Mila." A man approached Mila as Renzel eyed them. Mila smiled charmingly as always. Although he knew about her past and he sympathized with her, she wasn't a slut. She was charming enough to get more investors but at the end of it, he could see the disgust on her face.

"Mr.. Parson," His secretary approached him. "Sir," Renzel bent down a little. "Your aunt called. She wanted to know about your cousin's fiance."

"Dana?" He asked as the Secretary nodded.

"Tell her that there's nothing to worry about," Renzel said. "Tell her that I don't have time to investigate too. Katarina chose him and we have no choice."

He nodded and left. Mila approached him and sipped on her wine.

"Are you sure that you would still play dumb and let your cousin got scammed by this man?"

"Do I have a choice?" Renzel scoffed and shook his head. "Just don't tarnish my family's name. You can play at Katarina like that. But not the Parson's name."

Mila caressed his chest.

"Alright," She then glanced at Tristan who was already busy speaking with two women twenty years older than him. "You look so tired. There's a room reserved for you."

"There's no need. I'll be going back to my penthouse."

"Take me with you." She said, "It's already midnight and they will surely have fun."

Renzel hesitated but having a relationship with her is the least he wanted although she's attractive.

"Please?" She asked. He nodded and gestured to her. She walked past him as he followed and Tristan nodded at them.

Renzel's car was already waiting outside. He let her in first at the backseat and he hopped in the car and sat beside her. She clutched her coat and wrapped it around her body.

"Do you want me to drop you off somewhere?" He asked.

"No." She shook her head.

"What's wrong?" He asked.

"Jason is in my apartment." She grumbled.

"How does he know where you live?"

"He has someone to follow me around." She smiled bitterly. "I want to escape him."

"Does he know about our business?" He asked.

"No. I called my best friend and dressed up as her so they wouldn't recognize me."

"I'm sorry to hear that. You can stay in my penthouse anytime you want."

"Thank you."

Maybe it's pity but he wanted to protect her because he was guilty that one of his family causes her miscarriage. She was broken and vulnerable at that time and he understood how that felt. It's a thirty minutes drive to his penthouse and they were both quiet. She also looked so tired from the night. So, he helped hold her arms and take her to his penthouse. He took her to his room since the guest room was messy and didn't have bedsheets.

"You can take a shower." He said as he rummaged to his closet and took out his shirt and pajamas. Although it would be too big for it, it's enough for her to use.

She sat on the long sofa and removed her shoes. Then, he took a spare slipper and gave it to her. He then took a towel and gave it to her.

"I'm sorry if I bother you." She said,

"No problem."

He took a pair of PJs and his towel as he left his room. He uses the bathroom outside and takes a long bath. After he came out, Mila met him and all of the make-up was gone.

"Uhm, is it alright if I get water from your fridge?" She asked.

"Yes, just take whatever you want."

"And where are you going to sleep?" She asked.

"On the sofa. Don't worry about me. Use the bed." He said as he went to the living room and turned on the TV. The fashion industry goes on and he stares at the tall and beautiful woman in red hair. It's natural red hair as her eyes were bright brown. Somehow, he felt a tight knot on his stomach and he reached the remote and changed it.

"You were mesmerized just for that moment." She said as she sat down and handed him a beer.

"This isn't water." He told her but he accepted the cold beer.

"I thought that you had more beer than water." She grinned. "You have a long and wide sofa here." She said and looked around. "Do you usually have people over?"

"Yeah," He nodded. "That was back then."

He remembered how he partied hard every weekend. It's all because of her fiancee that he loves most. But now, it's an ex-fiancee. The penthouse used to be messy and he remembered that there were stains of their love. But he got rid of it and sent off the jewelry that she left and clothes. She's probably happy now being a supermodel.

"It seemed that you got a story," Mila said and grinned. "So, that model, tall, beautiful, red-head…"

He only shrugged as he still felt that pang of pain on his chest. He also felt cold and unwell as those memories swirled in his head.

"Sorry, that I was forcing you to speak about that."

"It's fine. She's just my ex-fiance. But she married an heir and I think she's happy."

"Hmm," Mila nodded. "I won't ask further." She said softly.

"We love parties. I love to throw parties for her friends because she's happy."

"Hmm," She nodded her head and sipped on her beer. He gulped on the bottle of beer and sighed.

"She got pregnant without my knowledge and aborted it. She said that it's mine and she doesn't want it. When she heard that I can't be an heir to the Parson, she married the heir of the entertainment agency and it boosted her career."

"She~~She aborted…" She murmured. "What?" She exclaimed.

"She did. I was angry at her and I was wasted for months." He grumbled. "But it's the past. Our five-year relationship went to nothing and I wonder if I was ever useful to her."

"Don't be dumb. That woman only uses you for fame. She's greedy, like most people." She gulped on her beer and then checked her phone and showed it to him. "Jason is still there."

"He's that determined?" he laughed and finished his beer.

"Yes," She shrugged. "He's annoying and I don't want to get caught by his virus anymore. Do you want another?"

"No. I'm gonna sleep."

"Okay." She finished her beer and took the empty bottle from his hand. Then, he stood and went to his room to take a blanket and pillow for himself. He set up his spot and glanced at her. "Good night."

"Good night." He smiled at her as she headed to his room. He turned off the lights in the living room and closed the curtains.

He lay flat down and stared at the ceiling. The dim lights are on and, weirdly, he's sleeping on the sofa. It's been so long since he slept like this. Mostly, he was wasted. He got hospitalized and almost died because of drinking too much. But he cut it off after his grandmother hit her and Victoria looked so worried about him. There's only Victoria whom he knows that cared about everyone and he wanted to protect his little sister. It took months before he got over it.

He closed his eyes to sleep. But when he heard footsteps, he knew that Mila wouldn't be able to fall asleep.

"Hey," she called. "Are you fast asleep?"

"What's up?" He opened his eyes.

"Can we change? I can't sleep in your big room."

"No. Just sleep there." He grumbled and moved sideways facing the sofa. To his surprise, he felt her sitting in the wide space behind him as she lay down and pulled his sheet. He sighed and nudged her. "Okay, what's up now? There are other spaces in this sofa."

"I don't have a pillow or blanket." She pressed her back to him.

"Tsk." He carefully moved and sat up. "Are you sure that you want to be here?"

"Yeah."

He felt too lazy to go to bed. He rarely sleeps in his penthouse since there were memories of his ex-fiance around. But he needs to cheat himself.

"Let's go to bed then."

"I'm fine here."

"If someone broke you, you are the first one that will die." He slipped off from the bed and grabbed the pillow and blanket. She has no choice but to follow him. He set up pillows on the bed to mark their space and he also closed the door.

She climbed up on the king bed and hugged the new pillow that his secretary bought. She yawned and fell asleep right away.

"Were you just joking with me a while ago?" he asked and poke her arm but she didn't respond.
