Chapter 47 - Long Ride To The Past

This is the right time to ask all the questions on my mind. My mum looks like she is in a good mood to have a mother-daughter conversation. We barely say one word to each other without a serious disagreement.

"How come I have never met any of your relatives or dads? And how did I end up being poisoned?" I asked.

"Uh." My mum cleared her throat trying to find her voice.

"It's okay mum if you don't want to talk about it now," I said sadly.

"It is a long story, but I'm going to tell you all of it. Years back when I met your dad he was a charming young man working in one of my dad's fields. You see I grew up in the countryside and my dad, your grandfather was the chief of the town…." She said with a smile.

"That means you are a princess mum?" I giggle as she gives me a tickle.

"Well more or less, your father was a poor farmhand at the time who only had big dreams, he lost both his parent and their home when he was a kid. He only had a little brother named Fidel…" she sobs.

"You mean I have an uncle? Where is he now? How can I have never seen him all these years? Does he know dad is no more?" I ask waiting for her to answer. She had a long pause before continuing.

"Fidel your uncle, was the one that fed you the poison, and that's why your father never allow anyone to even mention his name"

"Mum why?"

"My parent of course didn't approve of our relationship, as an only child, I was to marry the man of my dad's choice. I had a dream of becoming a nurse and your father promised to make both our dreams come true.

So we did run away from home and got married, then we had you that was when my father's men found us. We committed a great sin, we were afraid for our lives and yours" she sniffed.

"When we were brought back to my father he ordered for us to be killed…. He didn't know of your existence, your father entrusted you to Fidel his younger brother. We escaped again with the help of my mother"

"So you never heard from grandfather and grandmother?" I ask curiously.

"No, we have been running from them since, my dad has his men everywhere looking for us and your uncle Fidel too, and he blames my father for his parent's death. He hated your father for loving the daughter of their parent's murderer".

"He hates me too, it means there is no chance to ever meet grandma or grandpa?" I let out a whim.

"You look exactly like your grandmother you know and each time I look at you I see her" my mum muttered. I'm sure she missed her parent, it's sad how things turned up. They have fought to keep me alive till now I can't give up on myself now.

My mum and I spend the entire day talking about the past in bed. We later prepare dinner and watch a movie. We both try not to think of dad. I know how hard that was pretending everything was okay.

The next morning I woke up before my alarm rang, I could barely sleep anyway with the nightmare combined with the poison spreading throughout my veins, I couldn't even close my eyes.

When my mum came to wake me up, I was already dressed up ready to leave for school. I wasn't in a hurry so I had enough time to fix myself. My mum was amazed when she saw me in a short dress with my hair loosened over my shoulders. It took me hours to get the tangles out.

"You look amazing Nancy" my mum awes.

"Thanks, mum, I'm ready" I smiled.

"Come here," she said as she pulls me for a warm hug.

Baby came by the house to drive me to school. My mum drove off before he arrived. My mum and I are trying to bond and I don't want to ruin it by telling her about my relationship with Baby.

"Wow," Baby wows when he saw me.

"What?" I snap.

"You look different, are sure you are okay?" Baby asked having a second look at me from head to toe.

"I feel great actually, now can we go" I whimpered.

"Yes ma," he said playfully as he opens the car door for me to sit.
