Jessie had no reason to act out in any way.

"Don't cry, dear. I'll sort things out." Nancy rushed into Jessie's office, in the hopes of gaining more information about what happened. She slightly pushed the door and went inside.

Nancy had a lot to say. However, before she could even speak, Jessie had already began talking. "Look who finally decided to come to work. I am truly surprised," Jessie mockingly said. "Have you heard the news? I'm quite sure you have. Apparently, your beloved Mr. Fu was engaged to Miss Zhuang. I feel sorry for you... Take my advice; start sort things out before they get out of hand. But you do realize that Mr. Fu is now beyond your reach, right?" Jessie would say everything to hurt Nancy. "It would be best to accept that you are never worthy of him," she added.

Nancy already had too much on her plate. She decided not to acknowledge any of the remarks Jessie made. Nancy simply said, "Charles' engagement is none of our business. I'm here on behalf of Erin. Why did you hit her? Did she say something wrong?"

Jessie felt a bit castigated. She replied, "You can't walk over me simply because this hospital value your skills over mine. You really are an arrogant bitch, most especially when you were dating Mr. Fu. You acted as if no one could stand in your way." Jessie took a breath and continued, "You did not even show respect towards your seniors, myself included. You treated me—the director of this h

irectly, rather than coming up with a plan as bizarre as this one." Nancy conveyed her point clearly. She did not mean to sound brash.

"To tell you the truth, I've always had a crush on you, Nancy. Give this date a chance, and leave if things don't work out for you." He shrugged right before he finished his sentence. Jerome was apparently sincere.

"Well, you don't mind it?"

Jerome was a sharp guy. He knew exactly what Nancy was talking about—her relationship with Charles. He had no intentions of blowing up his chance with Nancy. "Mind what?" he replied very openly. "Everyone has a past," he continued. "Your past has nothing to do with this moment, more especially with me. What's important is that you are here, sharing this moment with me."

His words amused Nancy. "Not surprising for a university professor. You are truly wise and considerate, I must say," Nancy said with a smile.

Jerome who was pleased by her answer, replied, "Well then, what would you like to eat? You go and order whatever you want," Jerome said as he handed the menu to Nancy. The man could not stop smiling.

Nancy ordered her favorites: shrimp balls, roast chicken wings, and a small cold dish.

Jerome, on the other hand, ordered a couple of vegan dishes for himself, along with a mug of beer.

"I'm currently trying to lose weight, so I don't eat oily stuff." He felt like he should defend himself

as—unlike him—Nancy had ordered meat dishes.
