Chapter 48 - Mr. Helian's Grandfather

The next morning, Jian Rushi woke up naturally and found that the sun was already high in the sky. She rubbed her eyes and was surprised to see Mr. Helian lying next to her.

Helian Ze was devoted to his work. He usually went out early and came home late, so in the past when Jian opened her eyes in the morning, she could only see an empty bed. But today he was still sleeping beside her.

Helian Ze turned over, held her close to him and murmured, “Let’s sleep a little longer.”

“Don’t you have work to do today?” Jian asked curiously.

“Yes, I have. But I’ve finished most of my work ahead of schedule. There’s only a little left, and I can do it later.” Helian Ze said lazily, “I know you’re intensely curious about my family, so I plan to take you home. But our wedding has to be delayed because any pregnant woman with a big belly won’t look nice in the wedding dress. I want our wedding to take place after the baby is born. It must be interesting to carry our baby in the wedding ceremony.”

‘You must be kidding! It’s not interesting at all. Others will laugh at me and think it’s a shotgun wedding,’ Jian Rushi thought to herself.

But she was quite satisfied with Mr. Helian’s proposal to take her to see his grandfather.

Jian Rushi began to doll herself up because she wanted to make a good impression on his grandfather. Since she decided to visit his grandfather, she should pay more attention to the way in which she dressed.

Jian asked him what his grandfather liked.

Helian Ze replied perfunctorily, “Every time he sees me, he is in a bad mood. No matter what gift you give him, it won’t change anything. So, why not ask me what I like and buy me something?”

According to him, he was the eldest son in his family. She thought that he must have been dearly loved by the elders, but his grandfather seemed dislike him…

Jian Rushi rubbed her chin and pondered for a long time before she finally asked solemnly, “Tell me the truth, is it because you were a naughty playboy, who always associated with undesirable people and did all manner of evil when you were young, that your grandpa dislikes you?”

Hearing this, his hands holding a newspaper trembled slightly, as he said, “If I’m a playboy who does all manner of evil, you will not be safe even though you’re carrying a baby.”

It was obvious that he was threatening her, but she dared not to answer him back. Although she was now pregnant and he dared not go too far, the child would be born soon or later and by then…

She would never forget what Mr. Helian had done to her in the bed.

She suddenly remembered a tool he had used– the feather duster, which was anathema to her. She wished to throw away all the feather dusters in her house. Anyway, out of sight, out of mind.

“Don’t think about everything. My grandpa dislikes me because I didn’t do as he wished. He once wanted me to go into politics.”

Helian Ze drove Jian Rushi to his grandfather’s house. On the way there, they were stopped by the guards a dozen times. They drove up a narrow road, and their destination was a yard standing on the top of the hill.

There were a lot of guards standing at the gate of the yard. The leader came up to Helian Ze and said a few words, then opened the gate for him.

“He called you young master?!” Jian Rushi couldn’t help laughing. “It really sounds like a title of a playboy.”

Helianze glanced sideways at her. Jian sensibly shut her mouth.

They entered the yard. Jian found that the yard was big and well-decorated. What a beautiful scene! Pavilion, terrace, rockery, bridge and pools exquisitely laid out in an asymmetry. The brick house looked simple and unsophisticated, full of cultural connotations.

Helian Ze’s face clouded. He took Jian Rushi’s hand and walked towards the front door while saying coldly, “That’s why I hate to come back here. They will search us incessantly.”

Jian Rushi dared not to say anything. ‘You speak so loudly that the person in the room must have heard you, unless he is deaf,’ she thought in her heart.

“You brat, if you hate to come back, get out now!” An old man’s majestic voice came from inside the house. There was a sense of superiority in his voice.

Helian Ze stopped and knitted his brows. He looked unhappy and seemed to be on the edge of losing his temper.
