Chapter 233: Want to taste my lightning?

There was a long silence after that as the men and women waited for Alex's reply with bated breath, as his decision during this time would result in either their survival or their demise.

After all, even though Carl, Lin and Dirk are confident in their abilities to fight zombies. They lack the resources to go against the horde as they'd need at least a platoon of fully armed men from head to toe or at least three battle tanks and other military vehicles like IFVs.

[Pack up, we'll retreat for the time being. Get the kids and the rest ready when you get back. Lin and Carl, did you two get the truck?]

Lin quickly took his radio and answered.

"Yes sir! We've just arrived at the shopping center, over"

[Good, hurry up inside and help me carry the things inside into the truck]

Dirk turned the bird around and made his way back to their temporary base while Lin looked at Anastasia and Karina.

"You two stay inside the truck and don't come out unless we tell you"

"Okay"

Anastasia and her daughter nodded as they quickly hopped back inside while Lin and Carl hurriedly made their way back inside the shopping center.

When they arrived before Alex, both men were startled to see how many items the former had looted on his cart, but they didn't say anything as they just silently picked them up and brought them all down to the ground floor before they brought all of it inside the truck.

While they were all doing that, Alex had also seen the mother and daughter that Lin and Carl had met, but he didn't say anything as he doesn't really care for now.

On the other hand, Anastasia got scared because Alex just looked at them before he ignored them like they weren't there at all, so she thought that he might have been angry that his men brought them with them without his consent.

But she didn't plan to leave as she knows that these people before her are the only path for her and daughter's survival. She had long grown tired of their nomadic life because there was no one they could depend on to protect them from zombies or even humans who wanted to capture them, especially her for sexual relief.

It took at least half an hour loading up all of the items inside the truck before they were done, and in the distance, they could already see the silhouette of the horde getting near.

"Let's go!"

Alex got in the pick up truck, and Carl drove the van while Lin had taken the duty to accompany the "ladies" and followed behind the convoy.

On the other hand, there were also survivor groups who had also discovered the incoming horde a little late which made all of them panic as they didn't expect something like this to happen at all!

All of them quickly packed up, and in their hurry, they left a lot of valuables, but they at least made sure to bring the important things with them before leaving.

And not even ten minutes later, at least three different groups of survivors left towards the direction of where Alex and the others had left to.

All of them drove in either RVs, SUVs or trucks.

It didn't take a long time for Alex and the others to arrive at the base and passed through the gates with the kids cheering for them like they were welcoming heroes.

"Get moving! Kids, take care of the food stocks! Let us handle the rest!" shouted Alex as soon as he got down from the vehicle.

"Okay!"

"Leave it to us commander!"

The kids cheerfully replied before they ran towards the van where Carl had opened up the doors, and the kids started carrying the food inside the PELICAN as they knew that they were running against time.

"Sir, what about the meat?"

Lin ran over to Alex and asked him regarding the mutated meat they had acquired earlier as he knew that they wouldn't be able to bring all of them if they quickly leave like this.

Alex walked over towards the pick up truck with Lin in tow and looked at the meat at the back of the car and said, "Get a portion of the meat, leave the rest. Same for the other things, only bring those you think would useful for us in the long run"

Vrooom!

When they were almost done loading up the goods, they heard the sound of vehicles approaching and stopped before the gates of the military compound.

"Please let us in!"

"Open the gates!"

Soon after, they heard shouts coming from the other side of the wall.

Alex looked at Lin and gestured with his head, "Go check it out"

Lin nodded and quickly made his way over the staircase and arrived at the watchtower.

When he arrived there, he quickly noticed the people below him, some armed, some are not. All of them stood before the gates, and when they saw Lin up above them, they started screaming more.

"Let us in please! We have kids here!"

"Open the gates, the horde is coming! We don't want to die!"

"Open it up, hurry!"

At first, Lin had thought of wanting to ask Alex if it's possible to get them inside, but when he saw how they are screaming at him and demanding for him to open the gates like it was their right, he frowned and suddenly felt disgusted as he doesn't like people like them who are so arrogant in their speech when they are the ones in need of help.

"Min! Come up here!"

Of course, he couldn't judge all of them with the same opinion, so he called Min over as she's been living here for a long time and she might know them.

"Coming!"

Min hurriedly came over when she heard him, but when her eyes laid on the people below them, she couldn't help but frown and sneer in disdain.

"Ohh..its them bastards"

Lin looked at her and said, "You know them?"

"Yeah, they're not good people at all"

"What do you mean not good people!? Have you forgotten how much we had helped you before!?"

"Yeah, we even gave you food before when you came to beg us!"

After Min said they are not good people, the people down below who heard what she said suddenly started screaming at her in anger like they couldn't wait to get their hands on her and teach her a lesson.

"Shut up! Helped us!? F*ck you! You never helped me or any of the kids with me before! And we didn't beg for food, we exchanged those food with weapons we had collected! How dare you say all of those things, you shameless people who had always tried to capture us!"

"And it seems you guys want me to make you taste my lightning again!?"

Hearing the accusations being thrown at her, Min couldn't help but explode in anger as streaks of lightning started wriggling around her hands.

"Leave them, and let's just finish what we were doing"

Lin quickly stopped and just shook his head at her, trying to indicate that it's not worth it getting angry over them.

For him, he'd rather believe this kid before her for now than those people hollering below them.

After all, these kids could always go back to being kids when they get back to Manchester as there is already a semblance of society at the main base.

By then, they didn't need to worry of the dangers outside their walls.
