Chapter 226: He Better Be Grateful

"You kids can stay here for the time being"

Alex and the rest of the soldiers successfully escorted the kids to where the Pelican and the others are before turning his attention towards their pilot.

"Yes sir"

The pilot hit his chest with his fist, followed by a nod.

"Where are you guys going? I want to come too"

Austin quickly stood up and walked over when he saw that Alex and the others were about to embark for another mission again.

Before Alex could say something, Soldier One approached him and placed his hand on Austin's chest and lightly pushed him away, making the latter wince from pain.

"You stay here, and look after your girlfriend and the kids along with our beautiful pilot"

Soldier One who's sexual orientation seems to be different than normal gave the pilot a wink, and the latter just snorted at him in return.

"Right, Min would also help you guys. She's an ability user just like you, and probably someone more dangerous than you are kid"

"But"

"No buts, looking after them is the least thing you can do. Besides, what can you even do coming with us with that injury of yours, hmm..?"

Austin was about to argue, but Soldier One just cut him off and pointed at the fact that he's still heavily injured, which is like a slap on Austin's face because Soldier One indirectly just told him that he's useless right now.

"Alright, I'll stay here obediently then, but one day, I'll repay the favor of saving me and my fiance's lives!"

In the end, Austin relented as he also understood that his current injury would certainly be a burden, but because the young man wasn't corrupted by the chaos of this world, so he wanted to repay their saviors by wanting to help them whatever they needed to do by being there.

"What about me? Can I come?"

Seeing that the unfamiliar man to her had backed off from pestering Alex and the other soldiers, Min quickly stepped forward and asked.

"No, you stay here. Help the others guard this place"

Alex quickly said, not letting the others answer on his behalf, and then  he turned around after saying those words nd slowly walked forward as he didn't wait for Min to start an argument.

Looking at Alex back, Min stuck out her tongue in frustration as she really wanted to go with them.

After all, it's been a few months since she had travelled out of her comfort zone.

In fact, the farthest distance she had travelled away from their base doesn't even exceed two kilometers.

Soldier One and Soldier Two quickly caught up to Alex after closing the gates of the small military compound that they had taken over.

"Sir, where are we going next?" asked Soldier Two, his voice sounded a little tired.

Soldier One didn't open his mouth and just looked at Alex, as what he wanted to know has already been asked.

"First, get a car running, preferably a truck. Then we'll start plundering some supplies at malls or warehouses near here before taking care of that navy ship" Alex said without even turning his head towards them.

"Roger that sir"

Soldier One couldn't help but smile as he liked things like plundering supplies and bullying some slow moving zombies.

"Now, go find a car that can still run" Alex turned towards the two and ordered them.

"Yes sir"

The two soldiers quickly nodded, and both of them quickly dispersed into two directions and started checking the abandoned cars around them, while Alex looked into the distance, his eyes especially locking onto their next target for later, the navy ship.

"Graah~!"

Soldier One opened the car door of the BMW beside him, and the former person on the driver seat who had now turned into a zombie stretched out its rotting arms and mouth towards him.

"Ugh! Freaking bad breath!"

Klak!

Soldier One couldn't help but frown in disgust, and activated his hidden blade on his left arm armor and stabbed it on the zombie's head.

Soldier One slashed the seatbelts off the zombie and threw the latter on the ground before sticking half of his body inside the car and fiddled around the ignition lock cylinder.

And luckily for him, the ignition key is still there.

He tried to turn on the car, but the engine only gave a soft roar before it ceased.

He repeated it multiple times to no avail. So he instead started rummaging for any useful things that were left behind inside.

"Ohhh~! A wallet"

Soldier One softly exclaimed when he saw a brown leather wallet lying just under the driver seat.

"Hmmm, so that zombie's name was Aflred, and he was a bank manager. Nice~ sadly, these green papers are now useless in this era"

After saying those words, he just threw the wallet behind him as a stack of paper bills from inside flew into the air behind him.

"There's nothing useful except for a small pocket knife, but I can sell it for a small price when we get back"

He grabbed the military backpack that they had gotten from the US government and placed the pocket knife inside.

Meanwhile.

Soldier Two was also doing the same thing as his fellow companion.

Checking the cars if they still can roar to life, while looting them of their valuables.

While Alex just stood in the middle of the street and kept a lookout. Thankfully, almost every zombie had already been eliminated around their vicinity, so there wouldn't be a swarm of zombies coming to bother them even when the cars around them are beeping like crazy due to the installed car alarms.

In the distance, inside one of the watchtowers.

"What are they doing?" Merlin couldn't help but ask the person beside him while looking at Alex and the others in the distance.

Art, who was also assigned as a lookout with Merlin couldn't help but roll his eyes and said, "They're trying to look for a car that can still run, you dumbass"

Merlin placed the binoculars down and glared at him, "Of course I know that you f*cking four eyes. I'm asking why they are doing that, wouldn't that annoying sound of car alarm attract a large group of zombies towards our direction?"

Art looked at Merlin with a doubtful gaze and couldn't help but say, "You...sometimes, you're not really sensible are you?"

"What do you mean by that?"

Merlin looked at his friend with a scrutinizing gaze.

"Didn't you even notice when we were making our way here? There's barely any zombies around. It means Mr. Alex and the rest had already cleaned up almost all of the zombies in the vicinity of this place. Besides, the sounds of the car alarms doesn't even reach that far"

Merlin felt like he had just achieved enlightenment and couldn't help but clap, "Ahh~ I see, so that's why it was so weird that there's barely any zombies around earlier when we always saw that there's like a large swarm of zombies here before through our binoculars, so that's why. I see, I see"

Art couldn't help but face palm and just sigh helplessly.

"This idiot would have certainly died if he didn't meet Min in the past"

"F*ck, having a somewhat dumb friend is frustrating sometimes"

Art gave Merlin a glance who is busy doing his job as a lookout seriously. The expression on his face like he was some kind of a soldier or something.

"This dumbass better be grateful that he has great friends looking after him"
