He had a big mansion to return to, but he didn’t. Why did he have to stay in her house and lie on her sofa?

Shannon didn’t want to think about it anymore, so she got up, took some sleeping pills, and went to bed.

The next day, sunlight filtered through the curtains into the room, and there was a cool breeze.

Shannon opened her eyes and pulled the curtains open. The thunderstorm last night seemed like a dream, there were no more traces of it.

She put on her clothes and opened her bedroom door. Max was no longer in the house. There was only a table full of dishes that reminded her that he had indeed been here last night.

Shannon threw all the dishes away. The moment she saw the dishes, she thought of Max. She didn’t want him in her mind again.

After packing up, Shannon took the documents that Max had given her yesterday and started the appeal. With these documents, it was easy for her to restart the proceedings again.

“Is that true? Can I really get all my assets back?” Gerald was extremely happy when he heard this news.

Shannon nodded. This time, not only would she let him win, she would also expose the officials who had been bribed.

“Alright! I promise you that I’ll stop the company’s operations now. I must regain what belongs to us. And here is your twenty million dollars. Take it.” Gerald returned the twenty million dollars that Shannon had lent him.

Shannon immediately transferred the money back to Pete and told him about the situation in the city.

She hadn’t been this happy in a long time. After the appeal, Shannon’s assets were unfrozen, and the investigations against her stopped.

Shannon went to the mall and bought herself a brand new outfit. The court session was tomorrow, and she had to look her best.

Time flew by, and the anticipated moment finally arrived. Shannon still arrived at the courthouse early.

However, the defendant still hadn’t arrived. Right now, Janice’s friend was completely flustered.

She was begging Janice to help her, but Janice wasn’t stupid.

Shannon’s swift movements in the appeal showed that she had sufficient evidence, so Janice couldn’t get involved in this mess again.

Besides, Janice didn’t have the time to help her best friend. Right now, she was busy trying to pull herself away from this matter.

“Shannon, we meet again.” At the entrance of the court, Finn saw Shannon, and his expression was no longer as arrogant as before.

Shannon turned around and smiled. No matter how eloquent Finn was today, she knew that he wouldn’t be able to cause any trouble with the solid evidence in her hand.

“That’s right, we meet again. Mr. Mason has already lost to me once. It’ll be twice soon, if we count what’s going to happen later. I hope that I won’t have to see you again. It’s really too tiring fighting a lawsuit against an outstanding person like you.” Shannon was full of charisma, and the door of the court

opened just as she finished speaking.

Finn looked at Shannon’s figure as she walked in, the confidence in his heart suddenly crumbling.

“Your Honor, I’m here today, not only to seek recourse for my client, but I would also like to report that some people in the prosecutor’s office had been bribed. Here is all the information.” Shannon submitted the evidence.

These words were like a huge bomb that was dropped in the courtroom. The presiding judge started perspiring.

During the previous trial, he had knowingly allowed the defendant’s side to commit perjury.

“This is fake! These pieces of evidence are made up! These are…”

“Please come with us. This case is now under the jurisdiction of the new presiding judge.” Just as the presiding judge was feeling flustered, the anti-corruption department arrived and took him away.

There was an uproar in the courtroom. This was the first time they had seen the proceedings develop like this.

Janice’s good friend sat on the defendant’s seat and was in a panic. She had never thought that Shannon could be so capable.

“From the facts and evidence presented by the defendant, the defendant has been charged with creating false evidence and bribery. She is sentenced to three years in prison with immediate effect! As for her assets that should belong to Mr. Whitt, they will be duly returned.” The presiding judge hammered

down the gavel.

Janice’s good friend immediately fell back into her chair. She had really been done in by Janice. If she hadn’t coveted Gerald’s assets back then and caused such a mess, she wouldn’t be jailed!

“Miss Zanders! Thank you. It was my fault the last time. I was wrong about you. You….”

“It’s fine, Mr. Whitt. But I’ll still have to charge you according to my lawyer fees. I hope you can transfer the money to my account.” Shannon interrupted Gerald’s ex-wife coldly and walked out after saying that.

She had won, but without Max’s help, she couldn’t have won so easily.

Because she had won only with his help, she felt a little upset.

“Congratulations, you’ve won a good battle. Now, you’re going to be famous.” Finn followed Shannon out, and gave her an awkward smile.

Shannon turned around to look at this well-known figure in the industry. She had made a name for herself, while his legal career had been ruined.

“Mr. Mason, I heard that you’ve never lost a battle. Do you know why you lost this time?” Shannon’s tone was calm, and her expression was indifferent.

Finn frowned in confusion. He had always been doing what a lawyer should do.

“You lost because you wanted to win too badly. You didn’t care about the price you had to pay, or who you were defending, And you don’t understand that the most important thing for us as lawyers is to protect the law. We have to defend those who really need to use the law to protect their rights, and not

just for the sake of money.” Shannon admired Finn’s talent, so she said this to him.

Finn’s face flushed red. It was embarrassing for a man to be reprimanded by a woman.

“Miss Zanders, I heard that you single-handedly won this lawsuit, and even exposed some corrupt officials. You…”

“I think the relevant departments will report on the details of the case. I’ma little tired, so I’ll take my leave.” Shannon had just walked to the entrance of the courthouse when she was surrounded by reporters. She responded coldly before pushing the crowd aside and driving away.

This group of reporters were the same people who had reported a few days ago that she was Gerald’s lover, and even said that she had won cases sleeping around with other men.

Now that she had won the lawsuit, in the blink of an eye, she had become an elite lawyer who didn’t fear the authorities.

Shannon drove home, took off her high heels and lay on the sofa.

The smell of Max lingered in her nose, and her heart was in a mess. Why did he help her?

Because he chanced upon her when she fainted that day? Did he think she was pitiful?

Shannon was vexed. She got up and made a call, hiring a cleaning service to clean the house.

She thought that after cleaning up, there wouldn’t be any traces of him in the house anymore. However, after the cleaner left, she still felt his presence in the dining room.

Her phone rang at that moment. Pete had called from overseas, and Shannon’s troubled mind was temporarily relieved.

Janice, on the other hand, was in jitters. She thought that the worst outcome was that Shannon would successfully help Gerald win the lawsuit..
