After saying that, Shannon pushed Max away and walked out. Fortunately, there weren’t many people on the streets, so few people saw them.

“I told you to stop!” Max pulled her over and pressed her against the wall.

A trace of disgust flashed across Shannon’s eyes. Why was he always so domineering?

“Mr. Wenley! What are you trying to do? If I remember correctly, we’re strangers now, aren’t we?” Shannon looked up and glared at Max, her tone extremely cold.

Max’s eyes gradually lit up in anger. Strangers? No woman had ever dared to speak to him like this.

“Why didn’t you accept my check?” Max grabbed Shannon’s collar and recalled what she had said to Pete, the fiery look in his eyes becoming even more intense.

Shannon suddenly sneered. She really didn’t know what he was thinking.

“Whether I accept the check or not is my business. Does it have anything to do with you?” Shannon looked at Max with a repulsed expression.

She struggled to leave. She was extremely frustrated that he would treat her like this, and the irritation was getting to her.

“Say that again!” Max was completely infuriated.

A mocking smile appeared on Shannon’s face. He was really being ridiculous right now.

“Max Wenley! Give me a reason for taking your money. Is it because you are my ex-husband? I might as well tell you this. That marriage was simply a humiliation to me!” Shannon deliberately said these harsh words when she recalled all the things that she had to go through in recent days.

Max’s eyes turned increasingly red. Humiliation? Being with him was a humiliation to her?

“Do you know what you’re doing?” His grip on Shannon’s collar tightened, and his voice was as cold as ice.

However, Shannon was not afraid of him at all. She looked up and met his gaze. What kind of terrible situation had she not seen before?

“So what if I have to repeat myself? That marriage was indeed a humiliation for me! I lost myself in that marriage, lost my love, and lost my baby. If that wasn’t humiliation, what was it?” Shannon’s voice was getting louder and louder. For the past three years, she had felt that the past was a dream, and

she couldn’t wake up from that nightmare.

It was as though she was floating on the treacherous ocean every day. Day after day, no matter how hard she tried, she couldn’t reach the shore.

“What? Do you want to kill me? Just do it then. Anyway, didn’t our baby die in your hands? Now, let me die in your hands too. This way, I can get to meet my baby.” Shannon’s voice trembled when she spoke about the baby.

Tears rolled down her cheeks like broken beads. No one could understand her pain, especially him.

“Do you know how I survived all these years? Did you know that when I spoke to the baby, he would respond to me in my stomach? I could already feel him in my body. That was a new life, but because of you, I lost everything, including him. How could you be so ruthless?” Shannon roared, trying hard to

break Max’s grip on her.

‘The anger in Max’s eyes finally disappeared, replaced by an unfathomable expression.

He thought that it was just a baby, and they could still have another one in the future.

‘When he saw her crying, he subconsciously relaxed his grip and gently caressed her face, wiping away the tears.

A trace of pain suddenly pierced his heart, and his lips subconsciously approached hers.

Before Shannon could react, she felt a kiss on her lips.

She suddenly forgot to resist. It was as though the entire world had stopped at this moment.

Max held her head and deepened the sudden kiss.

Suddenly, the lights from a car shone over, and Shannon snapped out of her daze. What was she doing?

‘The image of her being bullied in New York suddenly appeared in her mind. She was also pushed against the wall by those people.

She suddenly felt like she was about to break down. She pushed Max away, then gave him a resounding slap.

Surprise flashed across Max’s eyes, and anger gradually surfaced in them. She’d hit him!

“Shannon? It’s really you! What’s wrong?” Matthew’s voice sounded from the side.

He was in the car when he thought he saw Shannon walking out of the restaurant, so he followed her. It turned out that it was really her.

“What did you do to Shannon? Why did she slap…” Matthew came just in time to witness Shannon slapping a man.

He shielded Shannon behind him and turned to reason with the man.

Before he could finish speaking, he froze. That man was his uncle, Max Wenley!

“Uncle?” Matthew sounded shocked.

He had guessed it before, but he didn’t really believe it. He always thought that it was just someone with the same name, but he didn’t expect the person to really be his uncle.

Shannon was suddenly stunned. Matthew addressed Max as ‘Uncle’?

Ashocked and disbelieving smile appeared on her face. Why hadn’t she noticed this before?

Max Wenley! Matthew Wenley! Why didn’t she notice it at all?

Max was also stunned. He had never known that Shannon had any friends. However, Matthew seemed to be very close to Shannon.

“Shannon, what’s going on?” Matthew subconsciously turned to look at Shannon.

Shannon didn’t know how to explain. All she wanted to do now was to leave this place.

“Uncle, Shannon doesn’t look well. I’ll send her home first.” Matthew knew that Shannon was the one in the most difficult position right now.

He pulled Shannon’s hand and stuffed her into the car. The car was silent as he drove off.

The scene that just happened kept replaying in Shannon’s mind. Max already had Janice, and Janice had already announced publicly that she was Max’s fiancée. Yet, he had never considered her predicament. Even under such circumstances, he still did such a thing to her.

“Shannon, are you alright? Did you get hurt anywhere? Or were you scared?” The car stopped at the entrance of Shannon’s neighborhood. He became nervous when he saw the tears on her face.

Shannon wiped her tears and sat up straight. She wasn’t hurt, but she was feeling a little desolate.

“It’s as you saw. Max Wenley is my ex-husband. He was also the reason for my miscarriage three years ago, and the reason why I fled to New York.” Shannon knew that Matthew must be filled with questions, so she didn’t hide it from him and confessed everything.

However, the grievance in her voice made Matthew’s heart ache. He took out a tissue and handed it to Shannon.

“You know my situation. My mother died a long time ago, and my father married another woman and migrated. I don’t have any family at all. I loved Max and that family dearly.” Shannon choked up emotionally.
