“Your friend is undergoing investigations, so he can’t help you at all. You’d better listen to me obediently. I might help you if I’m in a good mood.” Max walked to her side, and once again correctly guessed what she was thinking.

Shannon suddenly felt nervous. Pete was being investigated too? But why?

“Pete isn’t my friend. He’s my fiancé. Hurry up and open the door. I need to go and help him.” Shannon walked to Max’s side, and deliberately exaggerated Pete’s identity.

Max looked at Shannon, his gaze seemingly piercing through her.

“Oh? You’ll need money to save your fiancé. Are you sure you don’t want to have breakfast with me?” As he approached her, his voice was extremely cold.

Shannon knew that she had no choice but to follow him out.

‘The car was already waiting downstairs. Shannon got into the car, and her mind was full of worries. Soon, the car stopped at a luxurious restaurant.

She got out of the car with Max. Wasn’t it just having breakfast together? If he wasn’t afraid of being seen, why should she?

“I want my usual, but two portions of it.” Max unbuttoned his suit jacket and sat down at the best table in the restaurant.

Shannon was not in the mood to appreciate the exquisite breakfast. Her mind was preoccupied with concern about Pete’s safety.

Just as Shannon was deep in thought, Jake whispered something into Max’s ear.

“Miss Zanders, you seem to be in a good mood. To think that you even have the mood to enjoy your breakfast at a time like this.” Janice pulled out a chair and sat opposite Shannon.

Shannon sneered. Did this mean that she had finally met her match?

“With you around, Janice, the amount of times I’ll be in a good mood will surely reduce drastically. I might as well just let it pass, and enjoy the present moment.” Shannon smiled and she suppressed her anger, even though she wished she could toss her breakfast onto Janice instead.

Janice stared at Shannon, and a smug expression gradually appeared in her eyes.

“If you had obediently left the city, I definitely wouldn’t have made things difficult for you. However, you ignored my words, and even though Max didn’t even want to take a second look at you, you…”

“He probably really wanted to see me. Otherwise, I wouldn’t have fallen asleep on his bed last night.” Shannon raised her chin, and her eyes were filled with a trace of a smile.

Janice suddenly stood up from her chair, and the smugness in her eyes disappeared. In its place, was a look of ruthlessness.

“You’re just spouting nonsense!” She pointed at Shannon directly, unable to control her anger.

Shannon chuckled. She didn’t expect the usually dignified and gentle Janice to lose control at the mention of Max.

“I’m spouting nonsense? Didn’t you plant spies and reporters at my house? Since there weren’t any new reports, I definitely wasn’t at home. And where would the safest place be? It must be President Wenley’s house. Aren’t I right?” Shannon crossed her arms, deliberately angering Janice.

Janice was indeed furious. She stood opposite Shannon, fuming so much that she was about to explode.
