Chapter 21 - He Helped Her Before

“It’s really you. You’re really back? I can’t believe it. Shannon, do you know that I’ve been looking for you for a long, long time?” Matthew was exhilarated and his eyes were filled with surprise.

Shannon’s eyes suddenly turned red. He had helped her so much in the past, but when she left, she did so without saying goodbye.

“Yes, I’m back. Why are you here? Are you feeling unwell?” Shannon looked at the sign of the pharmacy and a trace of nervousness appeared in her eyes.

They had met at the entrance of the pharmacy, so she thought that he was sick.

“I’m fine. I just happened to stop the car by the pavement and saw someone who looked like you, so I wanted to try my luck. I didn’t expect to really meet you. By the way, why are you at the pharmacy? Are you alright?” Matthew suddenly got nervous and shook her shoulders.

Matthew frowned. If she wasn’t suffering from chronic insomnia, she probably wouldn’t have come out so late at night to buy sleeping pills.

“Wait for me. I’ll go and buy it.” Matthew turned around and went into the pharmacy.

In just a few minutes, he came out with the pills.

“You’re really capable. I negotiated with them for a long time, but they were just not willing to sell them to me.” Shannon had no idea how Matthew obtained the pills, but she was pleasantly surprised.

“Shannon, how have you been these past few years?” Matthew pulled her into the car with a concerned expression.

Shannon’s gaze wavered. Those scary and heart wrenching incidents had already passed, so she won’t tell him about them.

“I’ve been pretty good. I went to study again, and I’ve become a lawyer. Now, I even have my own firm. What about you? How are you doing?” Shannon decided to hide everything from him.

When Matthew heard this, he was naturally happy for her. However, her eyes told him that her life was definitely not as good as she said.

“It’s getting late. I’ll send you home, and we’ll talk tomorrow.” Matthew was as considerate as before.

Shannon didn’t reject his good intentions, but after he left, she couldn’t fall asleep even with sleeping pills.

It had been so long, but she would still sometimes dream of the baby she lost.

However, in her dream, she couldn’t see the baby’s face clearly. She always felt that the child was blaming her, so it was deliberately avoiding her.

Matthew’s arrival reminded her of the baby again. Naturally, she couldn’t sleep at all.

The next day, her eyes were swollen. She got out of bed and applied an ice pack on her eyes.

“Casey, this is bad, this is bad. LG wants to terminate our contract.” It wasn’t even eight o’clock when Pete’s voice sounded from outside.

Shannon frowned. It was all her fault. She knew that LG wouldn’t let her represent them again.

She got up to open the door for Pete with an apologetic expression on her face.

“I’m sorry, it’s all my fault. I’ll go to their company immediately. Don’t worry, I’ll definitely fight for the right to represent them.” Shannon had already made up her mind last night.

She didn’t care about the remuneration, but if the industry knew that her first case after returning to New Jersey had been revoked, then her law firm wouldn’t be able to continue operating.

“I’ll accompany you.” Pete immediately went back inside his apartment to change.

After a while, he stood outside Shannon’s door in a suit and waited for her. Shannon had also changed into her business attire, and they headed to LG with the defense plan she had prepared for them.

“Miss Zanders, you rebuffed me yesterday, but here you are today. What do you want me to do?” Karl’s expression was very ugly when he saw Shannon.

She sat opposite Karl and looked at the greasy man smoking a cigar. LG was a big company, how could they let such a tasteless person be the manager of the brand?

“You don’t have to say anymore. I’m not here for you.” Shannon stood up and walked out.

She wanted to look for their general manager, but Karl stopped her.

“Sir, I’m Shannon Zanders. I’ve brought the defense plan! I’ll only take five minutes of your time, and I guarantee that you’ll be satisfied with our plan.” Shannon rushed to the door of the LG General Manager’s office and shouted without any care for her image.

She naturally knew that this wasn’t the best plan, but she could only take a gamble now.

“What’s going on? Can’t you see that I’m discussing a contract with President Wenley? Get out and chase her away!” Taylor yelled at his secretary.

Then, he personally stood up to pour tea for Max with an apologetic smile.

“Miss Zanders, you can go to the meeting room first. Mr. Taylor is discussing a very important business deal. If you ruin this business, not to mention the legal contract, our company will definitely hold you responsible!” Mr. Taylor’s assistant said in a menacing tone.

Shannon wasn’t sure if it was a threat, but she still went to the meeting room to wait.

Max sat on the sofa. He could hear the voices outside clearly. He didn’t expect her to be LG’s attorney.

“I’ve already raised the profit point of your company by two percent. I needn’t say more, you must know what the profits of your company will be like in the next quarter. I’ll only give you half a day.” Max placed the document on the table with confidence.

Taylor looked at the collaboration plan. These were indeed the best conditions.

“President Wenley, your presence is already an honor for us. I’ll sign it now.” Taylor picked up the contract and was about to sign it.

Max’s slender hand stopped Taylor’s hand from signing. He made an abrupt decision.

“I have a condition,” Max said as he closed the contract on the table.

The Wenley Corporation was well-known in the country and he knew that LG would not reject any of his requests.

“I want the woman outside to be your lawyer,” he said coldly.

Taylor was confused. President Wenley didn’t even see who the woman outside was, so why did he make such a decision?

“Sure, we’ll hire her! Miss Zanders has returned from New York and won countless cases. We will definitely use her.” Taylor agreed to Max’s conditions without much thought.

He picked up the pen and signed the contract, then hurriedly sent Max out.

Shannon sat in the meeting room, staring at the watch on her wrist. She had just decided to give herself only half an hour to wait here.

If it didn’t work, she would have to try again.

“Miss Zanders, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting. Come, come, let’s go to my office to talk,” Taylor said politely when he arrived at the meeting room.
