Chapter 97 - Experiment (2)

Kai excitedly pulled out the next [Grade-3] item and inspected it.

[Thunder-Fin Core] [Grade-3] [ Qi 1320]

This was the weaker of the two cores, so he decided to use it first. The core was a gorgeous azure color and when he picked it up, it gave off an icy cold aura, making his hand feel somewhat numb.

Kai activated [Create Manual] and watched as the core disintegrated into small pieces of light. He was excited to see what type of martial arts manual it would become since the horn had exceeded his expectations.

As expected, the lights turned into a magnificent-looking blue scroll with images of an ancient-looking sea creature all around it. Kai absorbed the information and was completely floored by what he saw.

[System Warning! The host's cultivation slot is full. Would you like to forget [Tempest Dragon's Law]?

[System Warning!, Host's temporary slot already contains an unlearned manual. Would you like to spend [100 Qi] to convert the manual back into a physical form? Yes/No]

[You have 60 seconds to decide at which time a random manual will be removed...59, 58, 57...]

Kai was overwhelmed by the series of prompts that appeared one after the other. He was extremely happy about receiving a new internal manual and didn't want to lose it, so Kai quickly accepted the [100 Qi] cost. When he did, a bright blue light flew out of his head and turned back into the scroll he had just absorbed.

Kai sat quietly while looking at the blue scroll in his hands. This whole time, he had no idea that he could turn the manuals back into their physical forms. Kai thought about turning his other unlearned manual back into a scroll, lo-and-behold, the same prompt appeared before him yet again.

[Would you like to spend [100 Qi] to convert the unlearned manual back into its physical form?]

Kai quickly checked his remaining Qi.

52/800

Kai had reached the 7th stage of Qi Condensation so his new Qi limit had increased to 800 Qi. He had used over 700 Qi today which would take him a few hours of meditation to fully recover. Kai quickly crossed his legs and concentrated on absorbing any Wind-Qi that was lingering around. After a while, Kai rechecked his Qi.

102/800

"OK!, turn the unlearned manual back into a scroll!", Kai thought excitedly. The Qi in Kai's display dropped as a red light flowed out his mind and floated around him before turning back into a sinister-looking red scroll. This was the demonic internal manual that he had refused to learn.

Kai smiled while looking at the two internal manual scrolls in his hands. This revelation would be a game-changer for him. He quickly put them into his spatial bag and got back to meditating. He wanted to experiment more, but first, he needed a lot of Qi.

After a few hours, Kai's Qi had fully recovered the missing Qi. He opened his eyes and decided on what to try next.

"Turn [Tempest Dragon's Law] into a physical form!", Kai thought curiously.

[Would you like to spend [500 Qi] to convert [Tempest Dragon's Law] back into its physical form?]

Kai was again shocked by the almost arbitrary nature of the system's Qi costs. Did it decide that since he had already learned this one, it should cost more to convert back?... Kai didn't know the answer to the question but decided to accept the cost all in the name of science.

A green light flowed out of Kai's mind and turned into a beautiful green scroll that landed in his hands. Kai quickly checked his status to confirm his hypothesis.

"Looks like it copied the manual and didn't remove it. So I still retain all the knowledge!". This revelation made Kai ecstatic. This meant Kai would be able to make unlimited copies of the manuals he had already learned.

The reason Kai had not taught his disciples any other manuals was because he wanted to give them rare and interesting manuals. This would not only benefit them by giving them access to powerful manuals but would also help Kai store the manuals for later use. But, now that he could store the manuals in their physic forms, there would no need to deprive himself or his disciples of learning anything.

"The Qi cost is expensive, but it's manageable!"Kai said with a beaming smile. He spent the rest of the night absorbing Qi and turning all of his learned manuals into physical copies. By the next day, Kai's spatial bag was filled to the brim with at least two copies of all the manuals he considered to be important.

When the task was done, Kai took a deep breath and pulled out the blue scroll from his bag. He again absorbed the information.

"As expected, I only got a glimpse of it the last time, but this seems to be the same as [Tempest Dragon's Law]", Kai thought curiously. Everything down to the abilities was the same which made Kai wonder what criteria was used to determine the manual's abilities. The only difference was that this new manual focused on Water-Qi rather than Wind-Qi.

Kai chose to replace [Tempest Dragon's Law] since he had made two extra copies of it. Kai was no longer afraid of losing his precious manuals and was now more willing to experiment. When he learned the new internal manual, he felt his affinity towards Wind-Qi slowly dwindle until he could no longer absorb it from his surroundings. Instead, Kai now could feel the icy cold Water-Qi more clearly than ever before. There was barely any in the basement, but Kai could still sense some thanks to the moisture in the air.

He used Water-Qi-Enhancement on his arms and felt his hands being surrounded by a thin film of Water-Qi.

"So this is Water-Qi?..." Kai said while moving his hand around. The Qi felt more like jelly than water on his hands. The feeling was completely different when compared to the violent nature of the Wind-Qi.

"I'll call this one...[Flood Dragon's Law]", Kai thought to himself. He was nothing if not consistent when it came to his naming.

Kai experimented with Water-Qi until the sun came up. During this time, he learned that he could extend the Water-Qi around a small radius with him at the center. Kai figured this could be used as an interesting shield. Next, he found that if he injected a lot of Water-Qi into his arm, it would extend outwards, creating a thin Water-Qi tentacle. This tentacle was a lot sturdier than Kai had initially anticipated, proven by the fact that he accidentally split it in half after mishandling the whip-like tentacle.

"What an interesting internal manual", Kai thought while thinking of all the creative ways he could use Water-Qi.

As he fiddled around, Kai constantly checked his cool-down times for [Create Manual] and [Manual Customisation] until they finally hit zero.

"OK, Let's try combining [Tempest Dragon's Law] with [Flood Dragon's Law]!" Kai thought with some glee.

"But first, I need to turn this last item into a manual", Kai thought while pulling out the last [Grade-3] item.
