Chapter 202: The Talent System

As the sun gradually hid above the blue clouds, Jake sat on his chair.

He had been on the chair for a few hours now and had no thoughts of standing up.

Jake was on a hunt for information. He had asked the hotel staff to provide him books from the nearest library at all costs.

Yet, he couldn't find what he was looking for.

On his table were many books that started with the word, "theory". Everything one of them was just based on one's speculation.

He needed one that could provide him with evidence.

One that could settle all his worries.

A few more minutes he chanced upon a book that seemed to not be theoretically and was already tested.

However, after reading it, he realized it was not what he wanted.

It only answered half of his question.

But on second thought, what did he want?

Jake delved deep in thoughts but was interrupted by the loud sound of the door opening.

He looked at the figure who entered the room. It was Kaleyx.

She was grinning as she said to him, "This place sure has a lot of things, but first, you wouldn't believe what I found."

Jake sighed at Kaleyx, "What is it?"

She had been getting louder recently. He wondered if it would be a problem, but deep down, he knew it could never be a problem.

Kaleyx cooled down and brought out a pentagram star-shaped plate from her [Spatial Ring].

She passed it to Jake.

"What is it?" Jake asked for the umpteenth time.

"Alright. Alright. It is a [Spirit Device], the only item that couldn't be found elsewhere," informed Kaleyx.

"A [Spirit Device]...hmmmm....," Jake trailed.

He understood what it was.

In fact, it was something he desired very much.

It was an object that accurately measured one's talent. An object that showed one their true fate.

It was because of the implications of this object that it was banned from the southern main continent.

To prevent them from being bought and taken to the other islands, the sect inflated the amount of [Spirit Devices].

They also made the buyers swear an oath not to sell it out.

"It is said that [Spirit Devices] can never be false. Why don't we try it out?" offered Kaleyx.

As cultivators, they weren't exempted from being interested in knowing their talents.

There were a lot of things that could benefit them from knowing it.

"Alright," agreed Jake.

Since the device was with him, he decided to go first.

He placed it on his right palm and asked for further instructions, "What do I do next?"

"The seller said to infuse your pure energy into the device and calm oneself," replied Kaleyx.

Listening to her, Jake imbued his energy into the device.

Getting to his current realm of cultivation, his energy was already different from the usual color of [Spirit Essence].

It had gained a light purple hue, but sometimes, when he used his element, it would become blue.

After the imbuement, Jake waited for a few seconds, but nothing happened.

He waited for another ten seconds....it was still the same.

He was about to express his doubts when he felt a sharp sting course through his body.

It passed his bones, glided on his spines, and reached its final destination, his brains.

Then, it made a trip back to where it came from. This happened too swiftly for even someone like Jake to react.

He looked at the star plate but didn't discover any sharp edges or any indications that the sting came from it.

Suddenly, the plate lighted with his purple [Spirit Essence].

The light started from one of the edges of the star, the top point.

In a clockwise direction, the light spread to the other points of the star.

After completing a full circulation, the star illuminated. Encased in the purple lights, it resembled an actual star from space.

However, it was not over.

It twinkled on Jake's hand and the lights on the star points began to intensify greatly, starting from the topmost point.

After moving from the topmost point, it stopped at the second point and didn't move from that spot.

From this, Jake could understand that the procedure was over.

He looked at Kaleyx and asked, "What does it mean?"

"Each point of the star conforms to the universal talent system. Starting from the topmost point, the north point, from left to right represents the exact value of talent the holder has," Kaleyx began.

She went on, "If it stops at the third point, then that means the holder possesses a [Three-Star Talent]. If it stops at the fifth point, that is a [Five-Star Talent]. If it finishes a full circulation and starts again from the north point, then the holder has exceeded the original [Five-Star Talent System] and belongs to the advanced one."

She pointed at the star, "If it doesn't leave the north point, then the holder wields a [Six-Star Talent], which is also dubbed as the mortal limit. But if it goes on to the next point, just like you, then it represents a [Seven-Star Talent], the potential of deities."

Jake digested the breakdown of the [Spirit Device].

He wasn't shocked that he had a [Seven-Star Talent]. He had the ability to raise it further. So, it was definite.

However, the evidence of his talent meant that, if nothing happens to him, he was sure to advance to the diety realm, which was a rumored one.

It would signify the shedding of his mortal characteristics.

However, that was if he had a smooth journey and with the state the planet, and possibly the world, was in, Jake knew his journey was never going to be smooth.

He passed the device on to Kaleyx had watched as she activated it.

The light on the device ignited as it hit the first point….the second point….the third point….the fourth point…..the sixth point…..

It had completed a circulation but it still went on.

It intensified the first point….the second point…..the third point…..the ninth point.

The device grew hotter as it reached its limit. Kaleyx was forced to throw it away before it could explode.

After it landed on the bed, the lights on the star dimmed and it brought with it a silent atmosphere between the two allies.
