Chapter 2 - Mage In Cultivation World [2]

Everyone agreed to Lucas' offer. If he asks something, they just need to answer it. Even though they are skeptical that he wouldn't get back the corpse, they justify that some monster that can be easily killed must be insignificant to him.

Lucas smiled before slapping his palms against each other. "Okay. First, what do you do for a living?"

Everyone was dumbfounded by his stupid question. They are youngsters, not just because they are wearing their sect uniforms. What would you expect someone like them to do for a living?

They just answered him, despite the ridiculousness of it.

"We are outer court disciples from the Night Light Sect."

"We are also outer court disciples, but we are from the Lotus Seeker Sect."

For a moment, Lucas was perplexed. Does that mean that being a disciple is their job or way of living? Ignoring it, he just continued asking to clear up his confusion.

"What's disciples? I mean, I know it, but the sects? I can't understand." He added.

Now, everyone was speechless. Who would have thought that someone as strong as him would be ignorant of the existence of sects? Not only doesn't he know what disciples do, but he doesn't know what cultivation is.

One of them explained what outer disciples and sects are. Ignoring the ridiculous idea that this young master they are facing is a stupid one.

In the cultivation world, no one can quickly reach the top without some background. Thus, sects are created by powerful individuals to share their legacy and knowledge and practice cultivation with their assistance.

The disciples are divided into three groups: the outer court, who are only considered to have average talents; the inner court, who live a semi-luxurious life because they have cultivation talents; and the core disciples, who are known as cultivation geniuses.

"What is cultivation?"

Without even bothering with his strange question, they just continued answering him.

Cultivation is a path for cultivators who practice martial and mystical arts. Generally, they practice cultivation to become powerful and increase their longevity. Overall, they absorb Qi to cultivate and practice cultivation.

After hearing that, Lucas finally realized that this world he got transported to doesn't practice his line of life, which is magic.

A mage wouldn't understand what cultivation is as they purposely practice spells to improve their energy, or what they call mana. However, on the side of Lucas, he was shouting inside in excitement.

The long-awaited moment to start a new line of life is just before him. He just needed to practice it and convert from being a mage to a cultivator.

Despite the scarcity of mana in the surroundings, he can still use magic as it was already planted in his core. The cores of mages are recovering every second if they are not used. Even without the resources to improve their core, they can still use their source of mana.

Thinking about it, stinginess emerged from his heart. Even though he had previously expressed his dissatisfaction with the prospect of living a long life, this path is distinct from his previous one.

There are plenty of cultivators, which means he won't be alone in the long life he'll experience. Different from his previous world, where he was the only one who lived a long life, this one is a path for everyone.

"I see… I understand it. Now, who's willing to let me join their sects? " Lucas asked out of nowhere, confusing everyone in the area.

Although they feel that he is strong, they can't just accept anyone into their sect as it is taboo for them to recommend anyone suspicious.

In particular, Lucas, who is strong but also ignorant, with his strange outfit, screams of his mysterious identity.

Everyone just smiled awkwardly, hesitating to decline his request.

"I-I don't think you can join our sect."

"Yes! Ours too!"

"Can I ask why?" He asked.

Though they seem to be reluctant, they are terrified of him as his expression has been nonchalant since the beginning. He might be a practitioner of some evil act, so they can't bother recommending him despite his talent.

"It's because we are already full!"

"Full? There's – ah! Right! We are also full! We don't accept disciples anymore."

Even though they couldn't decide it for themselves, they just declined Lucas face-to-face, even though they had to die since they couldn't endanger their sect from him.

Lucas just nods simultaneously before speaking. "I understand. I guess I have to study this place first before I decide which way I should live."

Forget about dying! He can still live a different life since there are people who live long lives. And with the effect of cultivation on people's longevity, he can't just imagine life as a cultivator.

'I must see it for myself! But these youngsters, I know, they are scared of me. I think they are ants in the cultivation world because they can't dare be rude to me.' He thought.

"I understand. I will take my leave." Lucas said before activating a spell to fly.

Everyone who saw him fly just dropped their jaw in surprise. Did they just talk equally with an expert? Forget about his strong attack; it's reasonable since he is an expert!

"He's an expert, but he talks calmly with us?"

"What a strange expert. Why didn't he show us that he was an expert so that he could join our sect."

"Forget about it! Maybe he was just playing pranks on us since we were just weaklings in his eyes."

"Right! That type of person is just bored with their lives since they are almost at the peak of cultivation!"

"But what should we do with this corpse?"

For a moment, they were silent. They did forget about the quarrel they had with the monster's ownership.

"Let's just half it into two. Let's just forget that we encountered each other."

"Even it hurts my pride to take some material from another's prey, I guess I can deal with it since neither of us killed it."

Good for them that there is not monster core from the monster. If there was, they would continue to fight over it.

While flying, Lucas concluded what he must do first in this new world.

"Since I am still a mage, does it mean I should stop being a mage just to become a cultivator? I mean, living a new path in life is exciting." He mumbled.

Thinking of his future, he can't ignore the fact that this isn't the world he lived in.

Even though there is no attachment to his previous world, he can't forget about leaving his life as a mage.

"I can't ignore being a mage. Even though I don't really greed over power, it is still exciting to have a purpose. I will not use magic until I get to profoundly practice cultivation. First, I have to study this world's culture." He added before asking the wind in the nearby city or town.

After flying for over half an hour, he saw a city from afar. From the answers of the wind, this city has at least 5,000 inhabitants, enough for him to collect valuable information about the world.

Then, he landed in the city, only to be surprised by the reaction of the people.

Before Lucas landed, the guards who saw a figure of a human flying ordered to vacate the area for an expert.

Experts are cultivators who are exceedingly talented and powerful in cultivation compared to others. Since such a powerful individual can't be offended by a normal situation, they initially vacate the area for him to descend.

As soon as Lucas landed, the guards all bowed to him in admiration.

"Welcome to our humble city, Senior!" They greeted.

Lucas was astonished at the scenario. Why would they bow to a stranger?

This kind of thing isn't normal for him. In his previous world, it was common knowledge for people with an aptitude for the wind to fly.

'Does this mean that this world sees flying people as seniors? I guess they are.' He thought.

"Okay?" He unsurely answered before the guards lifted their heads.

"How can we help you, Senior?" One of the guards asked.

But Lucas didn't show his dazed expression; instead, he just remained cool and confident in the scenario.

Even though he had a weird fashion outfit, the guards didn't pay heed to it as there are people who love trying new things. And also, an expert is just in front of them. They can't waste the opportunity for an expert to visit their place.

"I'm in need of information. Where can I ask for information?" Lucas asked while keeping an unbothered face.

"The landlord can answer any question you have, Senior. Please visit our landlord, Senior, if you don't mind." One of them bluntly requested as if the other didn't expect it. He bumps his co-worker to halt his bluntness.

However, Lucas was so intrigued by it that he just let one of the guards continue.

"Speak. I am all ears." Lucas said.

The guard nods before continuing. "The landlord is looking for some seniors who can help him with our young lady. If you don't mind, Senior, we can take you to the landlord to help you with your problem. If you don't mind." The guard said, explaining almost everything he needed to know.

But Lucas thought of it as an opportunity. If this landlord turns out to be a wealthy person or at least influential, he can borrow some books to read about the world.

"Okay. I get it. Bring me to your lord.." Lucas answered, finally speaking his decision.
