Chapter 318 - JANUS PAST

[Oh,.. don't get me even started... would you believe me if I tell you that I also became a victim of that scam??!!]

A hint of savagery and annoyance reflected in Janus' eyes when he was reminded of his past experience.

So with that question, Janus started to recount his past life. To which Mu Lingxi listened attentively. Especially because she could see how serious Janus was.

"Woah? How where you able to get there??? Did you time travel and teleported there???"

Mu Lingxi asked in amazement when she heard Janus' introduction

[No. I originally came from that era.]

"Ohh.. so you must be really old then, Janus."

Mu Lingxi added as she placed her hand below her chin while she nodded her head. Then she sported a contemplating look on her face.

Janus decided not to mind his master in the meantime and went on telling the story of his life.

[During my time, the talking oak trees from the Epiro Grove were highly regarded due to their ability to prophesize.]

"Ohh!!!!! Really?! Are they like the talking oak tree that we met at the heart of Enchanted Forest?"

Mu Lingxi once again asked in curiosity

[Yes he was just like them. In fact, I believe that he was also one of them.]

Janus nodded his head as he tried to answer his master's question as calm as he could. But then a second after, he snapped back at her.

"Oops! My bad, sorry. Go on, I won't interrupt you anymore."

Mu Lingxi said with an apologetic tone. But her half-suppressed laugh gave herself away.

To be honest, Mu Lingxi was deliberately trying to interrupt Janus whenever he was about to speak.

She purposely did that to get to his nerves. In fact, she was even surprised when Janus did not realize it anytime sooner.

Janus exhaled a mouthful of air in an exaggerated manner before he continued on his tale.

"MEOW"

[So as I was saying, those oak trees were capable of predicting the future...]

Janus gave his master a side glance to check if she had any plans to interrupt him again.

It was only when he confirmed that Mu Lingxi was already behaving like a good child, did he went on telling his story again.

By that time, only the sound of Janus' soft meowing, as well as the sound made by the turning of the pages of the book, could be heard in the library.

[As expected, everyone who had learned about it was alarmed upon hearing the news. But for me, I think that it was nothing but a piece of sick joke.]

[Those talking oak trees must have been envious towards us back then. After all, antediluvian cats were used to be the favored pet of the deities during that time .]

[Precisely for that reason that they decided to come up with such lies.]

[Thinking that all they have to do is appeased the gods by sacrifice. The head of the talking oak trees ordered for an antediluvian cat to be drowned in the river. That is how I came to the story]

Janus looked distressed when he reached that part of the story.

It could be that it was one of the reasons why the poor cat also developed a certain degree of fear whenever he came close to any bodies of water.

Janus looked at Mu Lingxi once more before he continued talking.

"MEOW"

[The followers of the talking oak tree kidnapped me and took me away from my old master.]

Janus paused for a while when he was reminded of his previous master.

To be honest, he can no longer remember how his previous master exactly looked like.

All he knew was that his master used to love him so much, and her name was Lilith.

[Then they tried to drown me in the river and left me to die there.]

[Anyways, that was how I was able to say that the end of the world was nothing but a hoax. After all, I am the living testimony that it was indeed a scam! I was still alive and this world was still intact even after the passing of more than ten thousand years.]

That was how Janus finished his story.

"But Janus, don't you find it weird that I also found you the same time that you were about to be drowned again at the creek???"

Janus was silent when Mu Lingxi asked him that.

"Also, the fact that you were the one who brought me here."
