Chapter 61：Testing the Enhancement

"There isn't much in this room but at least it has the basics." I say as steam comes from the water as it cools the dagger and tongs.

As the dagger and tongs finish cooling I take the tongs out and put them back where they came from while also taking the dagger and appraising it to see the differences.

'Appraisal'

"Did I upgrade it?" I say as I peek at the information form the appraisal.

Description: A dagger specialized in dismantling while it is made out of iron it has a great affinity for mana. The dagger's sharpness can be increased at will with mana or if the dagger is used while dismantling.

"Nice, it has an upgrade and I can increase its sharpness with the usage of mana." I say while staring at the dagger in my hand. The look of the dagger hasn't changed at all but it looks as if someone has polished it.

"Well, I guess I can try this out on a quick visit to the forest." I say as I put the Dagger back into the inventory and leave the house.

Putting the house key into my inventory I ask the system, "Are there any kinds of upgrades that let me add a defense mechanism or maybe just letting only people I allow inside the house?"

[There are. Defense mechanism range from simple golems as guards to high ranking magic to alert you when someone has entered. They cost a lot of points so check the system shop when you have more system points later on.]

"Well, I guess I could go try out my upgraded dagger now." I say as I walk back to the adventurer's guild and take a herb collection quest. I've never really done this but apparently not a lot of people like to take monster hunting quests instead of herb collecting and inspection quests considering it was late in the afternoon and almost all monster quests were already taken. I guess I should take quests other than monster hunting from now on. Maybe I should try to move to a bigger city?

As I continue walking towards the forest of where I first came to this world I get a bad feeling in my gut as I look around grabbing the herbs that were mentioned in the quest. I know from experience that there wasn't anything strong around here but here I am feeling fear from the unknown aura I'm feeling. I can't sense anything in the surroundings with sense presence but I get the feeling that something is watching me.

Walking further into the forest the feeling gets more intense and I start to feel as if it is piercing my soul. It feels as if something is trying to take over my body like a parasite or something. As I continue to try and fight whatever is trying to enter my soul something appears in front of me out of thin air. On reflex, I immediately cast appraisal and looked at the status of whatever this thing was.

As the figure completely comes to view it looks to be an Elf with pointed ears but from its status, I can see that it is clearly a parasite. So my guess was right earlier. Maybe because I've experienced this before?

"Stop right there." I say to the parasite as it walks towards me. Upon hearing me speak the parasite ignores it completely but it's expression changes slightly so it probably heard me.

The parasite continues to walk towards me but all of a sudden it bursts into a sprint at me and tries to jump on me.

'Time Stop'

As time stops all around us the parasite stops in mid-air defying the law of gravity as the world itself stops as if frozen completely.

"Man, it seems that the parasite can't speak. I guess I'll just kill it then. I wanted to ask about the feeling from earlier." I say disappointed as I grab the new dagger from the system inventory.

Running mana through my body to the dagger in my hand as the dagger glistens in the light from the sun. The dagger itself shines as mana courses through it and it easily passes through the Parasite's skull like butter.

"The upgrade made it sharper than I thought it would, it was only enhanced once and its status had a +1 like it could be enhanced even further." I say while time resumes and the once frozen world resumes as if nothing happened in the first place.

With a loud thud, the body of the parasite falls to the ground from the mid-air position it was in. As I move in closer to activate fire magic to burn the body since I didn't get any experience the sound of leaves rustling sounds all around me as if I'm surrounded. The skill Sense Presence shows that there are living things surrounding me and just by looking I can see that a group of elf archers and elf hunters are surrounding the body that the parasite took over and me. The parasite is still alive so I have to be on guard so I make sure to write something with word magic and save it for later just in case.

"How can I help you?" I say while looking at the one Elf who is approaching me with caution.
