Chapter 499: Let’s Rebuild It!

"Mama, what's this?" Bell looked at the recently grilled meat on her plate, confused as to what she was looking at.

Kana's eyes began to water up hearing the little girl. To think she had no idea what meat was! It was blasphemy! "Bell, this is meat, one of the greatest things in the entire world! It is very yummy!"

"Meat!? This is meat!?" Bell's eyes glowed as she took a bite of meat. The fluids gushed into her mouth, causing her eyes to begin to water as the flavorful sensation exploded in her mouth.

Melinda also began tearing up. She wondered how many years it had been since she could even offer her daughter something other than vegetables. She looked around the house that now looked as if someone was living here and felt tears welling up into her eyes. She had no idea what Kana did in order to get all of this back, she only knew Kana was able to bring back many of the items she cherished.

After a good dinner and putting  Bell to sleep, Kana and Melinda once again found themselves sitting and talking. "Kana, I must thank you. You really put a smile on my daughter's face today when she saw her old bed returning. The day I had to sell all my things was a day I will never forget. My daughter was really sick, and that bastard wouldn't give me any medicine unless I either did 'that' or sold him all of my furniture. I, of course, chose to sell my furniture. Gary used to be good friends with my husband. They were hunting buddies and used to enter the forest together nearby. But one day, he came back saying a monster killed my husband and took his body.

"To be honest, I have always had my doubts about what really happened. And slowly, after so many interactions where Gary was trying to get me to sleep with him, I started to believe that maybe there was no monster and maybe Gary had something to do with it. Before all of this, I had noticed that when he stopped by to see my husband, his gaze would sometimes fall on me. Although it felt kind of creepy, I ignored it since my husband was good friends with him, and he was also the village elder's son.

"But..." Melinda began to cry as she clenched her fists. "If I ever find out that bastard is the reason why my husband is dead, I will... "

Melinda was at a loss. If her husband was killed by Gary and not a monster, then she would definitely want revenge, but she could not do that with her daughter. By getting revenge, she would be spurring on more revenge which would, in the end, may not only get herself killed but her daughter as well. She did not wish for this to happen. Revenge wasn't worth her daughter's happiness and smile.

Kana sat as Melinda let everything out. When she cried, Kana rubbed her back. The thought of wanting to avenge your loved one was something she did not have any understanding of, or for the time being, she had none. It made Kana wonder just who she was. Why could she remember her name and nothing else? And why was she some sort of large lizard?  Although these were all depressing thoughts, she decided she had plenty of time, as far as she knew, to figure it out, and for the time being, while she had a nice warm place to live with such kind people, she would stay here, protecting this mother and daughter as best as she can.

The next morning Kana had a crazy idea. "Let's rebuild it!"

"Huh? Rebuild what, Kana?"  Bell, who was hanging from Kana's neck, asked.

"Let's rebuild this house so that it will be warmer and protect you both from the cold winter months that are right around the corner." Kana had noticed a slight chill in the air in the early morning. The two, mother and daughter, did not seem to have many warm clothes. It would be best for them to have a nice warm place to stay during the winter.  As such, Kana decided she would not only stock them up on things for winter but also build a new house that could have proper heating.

"This… Kana, it is a lot of work to build a house we do not have the people to do it or the materials..." Melinda would love to be able to rebuild the house to be warmer for her daughter, but she just didn't have the ability or materials to do so.

"Hehe, why are you worrying about such things? You and Bell just need to sit tight while I handle the rest." Kana did not know why she was confident about building a house, but she was! She felt like she may have built a few in the past.

Melinda was not so sure about all of this but decided to go ahead and trust Kana. She always seemed to be able to pull off magical things. "Then I will leave it to you..."

"Mmmm! I will start today!" Kana decided she would need quite a few things, the area the current house was in was okay, but the ground was kind of off. She wanted to flatten it out more and also get rid of the dirt floor the current house had and put a big rock slab there instead. But she also would need some tools and other things that wouldn't be so easy to build herself. "Hmmm… a nice fireplace would be good for warming the house along with a newer kitchen as well."

With these thoughts in mind, Kana knew just the right place to go shopping. The mall of the Villager Elder's house!

"Ahh! Choo!" Gary's father let out a loud sneeze and shivered slightly as he hammered another nail. He was currently fixing the hole Kana made in his house. "Why do I feel like something bad is about to happen?"

"Oh! Gary's father! Good to see you! I came to borrow a few things!"
