110 Cannot Change

"Where is the servant? Bring her here at once!"

XuanRong's pale face was full of anxiety. She had sent Shu Yi over to the Chen residence in order to monitor the situation. Even though she wanted to personally take good care of her Fourth JiuMu[1], she could not visit the Chen residence very often. Although the Chen family was her maternal family, she must avoid giving ideas to the enemies. She was already at the marriageable age and she had to be careful and avoid being entangled with malicious gossip. Her maternal male cousins were all at the Academy but it would not mean that those people would not use any other means to tarnish her reputation. That was why she sent Shu Yi and made him hide his identity. She did not expect that even after all her preparations, this disaster would still happen.

XuanRong stood up. She had already instructed YuYing to prepare her luggage and other medicinal instruments a while ago. She turned her head and stared at YuShen and YuShang.

"YuShang, follow me and YuYing to the Chen Residence. YuShen, you will manage the courtyard together with Zou mama. You can appoint YuMi as your assistant. Send someone in the Chen residence if something happens."

YuShen and YuShang nodded their head in agreement and spoke in unison.

"Yes, this servant will follow XiaoJie's order."

Inside the horse carriage, XuanRong was in deep thought. YuYing and YuShang, who were sitting at the opposite side of XuanRong did not disturb her. The atmosphere inside the carriage was very gloomy. LingLing was also very silent as she sat beside the two Yus.

"Jia! Jia!"

The only noises one could hear were the coachman's voice and the constant neighing of the horses. Since the one they used was XuanRong's carriage, the Ferghana horses were very fast, it had not been long before XuanRong and the rest were able to arrive at the Chen residence without any problems.

"Open the gates!"

When one of the guards saw XuanRong's carriage, he immediately shouted, ordering to open the gate and let XuanRong pass through.

Hearing XuanRong's inquiries, Housekeeper Si sigh and shook his head.

"Fourth Chen Furen is still at the Fourth branch's courtyard. The rest of the members of the family are also there, including Old Master. The Physician informed us that there is a possibility that the Youngest Young Master will not be able to survive inside Fourth Chen Furen's belly."

Housekeeper Si's voice was full of sadness. He had been working in the Chen residence for almost four decades. Unfortunately, it seemed like the child had no affinity towards the Chen family and was doomed not to be born in this world. Thinking of it, Housekeeper Si's heart started aching.

XuanRong's countenance darkened when she heard Housekeeper Si's words. She wanted to see Shu Yi but she knew it was not the right time. The first thing she had to do was to see her Fourth JiuMu and observe her situation. Although she learned medicine from the Yue Clan, she, XuanRong, was not a miraculous doctor. In order to help her Fourth JiuMu, she had to first learn the entire situation and check her health before she could move according to her master's teaching.

"What happened? How did Fourth JiuMu got poisoned? How come you only found it later? When did the security of the Fu became this lax?"

XuanRong's words were partly blaming Housekeeper Si and the rest of the servants. It made Housekeeper Si's face burned with shame. Indeed. It was his fault for not properly handing the entire ChenFu, leading to Fourth Chen Furen's critical condition.

"This servant knows that it was this servant's fault."

XuanRong sighed. She did not want to press the matter under Housekeeper Si's head, but she could not help herself. She was partly blaming Housekeeper Si. Her Fourth JiuMu was harmed because there was a spy inside the Chen residence. XuanRong believed that the spy who sent the Chen family to the death's door was also the one who wanted to harm the baby inside her Fourth JiuMu. Housekeeper should really clean the entire residence. Rats and other dirty animals were lurking inside the Chen residence, hiding in the shadows, waiting for the right time to strike and finish off the entire Chen family.

"Rong'er is not blaming Housekeeper Si. Rong'er was only disappointed. Because the security of the Fu was neglected and some of the servants were bought by other people, someone from the family was hurt. After this incident, Rong'er hopes that the residence will commence a general cleaning and wipe those rats scurrying inside the residence."

Housekeeper Si sighed in regret. What XuanRong said were all true. Some of the servants inside the residence were not as loyal as they used to be.

"What Xuan XiaoJie said is correct. This old servant is already old and can no longer monitor the entire residence. What happened to Fourth Chen Furen was because this servant has neglected his duty. After the investigation ended, nothing was found out. How Fourth Chen Furen got poisoned and what type of poison she ingested, the Chen residence was unable to find anything."

XuanRong stopped walking and stared at Housekeeper Si.

"Is Housekeeper Si saying that even the Imperial physician was not able to find out what type of poison Fourth JiuMu ate?"

XuanRong's eyes sharpened. In her previous lifetime, the poisoning was during the eighth month of her Fourth JiuMu's pregnancy, leading to early labor but now, the poisoning was moved to an earlier date, only five months after her Fourth JiuMu conceived her BiaoDi. It made XuanRong wonder if she was the one who indirectly cause the early poisoning, because every time she tried to change something, it would lead to the early development of the incident, like what happened during her assassination at Lu Shan.

Since in her previous lifetime, she was not very close with her maternal aunts in law, she did not pay attention to the details. But now, it was not the same. Even the minor ones such as the source of the food in the Chen residence, the list of the servants' background etc., she had to know everything.
