Chapter 28 - 1.25

That evening, Xu Jiaqi was notified by one of her servants, telling her that a certain man is waiting up on her. She had been waiting for this call, so she immediately went downstairs all dressed up and pretty. She passed by her parents, who were watching a movie together and relaxing.

It was a tragic movie, so Xu Zheng was bawling while his hands were occupied with grabbing popcorn. Li Jiayun, on the other hand, tried to resist the tears as the leads who acted in the movie encountered tragic accidents one after another. Xu Jiaqi notified them of her departure, but the two were too fixated and engrossed in the movie that they just told her to be safe without asking who she was going to go out with.

Xu Jiaqi slipped out of the house and saw the figure who was waiting on her.

"Zicheng ge, good evening. Are you here to pick me up?" Xu Jiaqi leaned by her door as she watched the man, who was dressed in a rather tight suit approach her.

"En. Are you ready to go?" Qin Zicheng had a gentle smile on his face. When he consulted her mother, she pointed out that he does not smile much, and that might affect Xu Jiaqi's views about him. He was never the type of person to generously give away his smiles, but smiling in front of Xu Jiaqi was not as hard as he thought it would be.

The lady was not only pleasant to look at, but also easy to interact with. They got into the car and started going to the restaurant the man booked.

Before this, Qin Zicheng abruptly asked her if the two of them would be able to have dinner together. Xu Jiaqi was indeed free that day, so she readily agreed.

A week had passed from the day Xu Jiaqi confronted Bai Mengxue. Things have naturally progressed smoothly. Qin Zicheng was also suppressing Zhou Yuan on his side, leading to the man having complications over his business' continuation. This stress caused him to also slowly grow further apart from Bai Mengxue.

In the original story, the two leads would always have something to pull out of their pockets when a trouble arrived. This time, however, faced with two giant families' pressure that were clearly out of their league, who can help them out?

Their relationship was suffering, and everything was going according to Xu Jiaqi's plan.

When the criminals were brought into court, there was something that went out of Xu Jiaqi's expectations. It was the punishment granted to Bai Mengxue's father.

Even though Bai Mengxue should just be a normal woman, she somehow managed to get her father out of the harshest trouble. Her father got less than what he was supposed to get. Since the punishment allocated to him had a bail option, Xu Jiaqi played foul behind the scenes to maximize the bail as much as possible, staying within the realms of law. As such, the amount of money that was needed was impossible for Bai Mengxue to pull out no matter how hard she tried.

Xu Jiaqi was waiting for the woman to come and ask Zhou Yuan for the payment. Zhou Yuan was also having his own problems, and above all, she noticed a characteristic about the man. He was quite sensitive to spending money, which could be attributed to his tragic past where he was forced to skip meals from time to time just because he couldn't afford it.

With such a past, would he really dare spend so much money on Bai Mengxue, someone who he hadn't been in a formal relationship with yet? Not to mention, Bai Mengxue had caused him several problems. His company was also suffering under the anonymous hands of Qin Zicheng.

All of that added up, Xu Jiaqi didn't believe that the couple would be able to have a sweet and happy ending like before. Reality was harsh. Harsher than anybody could ever expect. You never know when tides change, it was all up to fate to decide.

However, Xu Jiaqi, as an agent Host, could be described as someone who defied fate.

The System rapidly warned her that Xu Jiaqi was pushing the case too much, and that her mission would still be resolved even without the downfall of the main couple. Even so, after seeing Bai Mengxue intending to harm her even before she made any moves, why shouldn't she take some measures to prevent future accidents?

She knew that Bai Mengxue was blackening, and that her character in front of Zhou Yuan was also beginning to fall apart with all the dilemmas that hit her. A relationship like that wouldn't last.

Just yesterday, Bai Mengxue had lashed out to Zhou Yuan after feeling like the man hasn't paid much attention to her recently. Not to mention, she also had spotted him chatting with a beautiful model. Bai Mengxue was someone prone to jealousy, and the inferiority complex she possessed struck her quite harshly.

Zhou Yuan, who was only interacting with the model because she was working for one of his projects naturally became quite angry. Bai Mengxue did not understand much about Zhou Yuan's work, but she knew that he was successful. She did not know that recently, the man has been hit with various troubling matters and was at the peak of being stressed.

The two fought verbally, and it ended up with Bai Mengxue falling to her knees and crying with all her heart. Bai Mengxue realized that she had been too harsh. The two of them were still on the trial period of a relationship. There was a limit onto how much she could push her narrative.

Thus, Bai Mengxue decided to end the fight using her waterworks, but it actually ended up backfiring because Zhou Yuan thought that Bai Mengxue was too unreasonable. Instead of continuing to discuss and smooth the wrinkles out with him, she chose to cry out of nowhere and take the victimized role.

Apologies that weren't sincere, what were they other than bullshit?

Zhou Yuan was tired out, so he chose to leave the woman alone. But after all that happened, it was a matter of course that he started rethinking his choices and feelings.
