127 5.16 The Prologue, Spoilers And Blood Essense

I soon woke up with the sound of the yatai vendors that were calling out to the villagers to come and buy their wares. I made a mental note to buy some raw sweet potatoes so we could eat during tea breaks and so on. There might be some vendors in the marketplace selling bananas as, and if steamed, it would go very well with the afternoon tea.

Today it seems like there's quite a number of yatai vendors and I went out and joined Hiko-sama at the terrace. The calling out of the yatai vendors seems to excite Hiko-sama as well as he kept peering over the neighbours' houses as the vendors seemed to be coming nearer to our district.

"Don't buy so much, Sensei. I suggest since there are two of us, we could buy something like 2 of each kind. What do you think? We can keep it for breakfast tomorrow as well as for afternoon tea. By the way, could we go and get some sweet potatoes so I could steam or baked later for the next coming few days?"

"Seems like a good idea, Himura. Buying raw products saves money. By the way, I think today I feel like eating Ramen. How about you? Then we could buy some Mitarashi Dango so we could steam it for breakfast tomorrow."

"Ok Sensei, the Mitarashi you can request to separate the coconut shavings aside. If it's not spoilt by tomorrow we can eat it with a pinch of salt, if not then it becomes chicken feed."

"Sure... Sure... As long as we have enough food, we should be alright. By the way, your katana is ready and you will grind it later?"

"Yes Sensei, it's ready to be grinded but before I place some of my blood essences into it."

"Are you serious in calling your katana the 'Shinrai to yujo'? Doesn't it seems a bit too weird calling it those names as you already made known to other demons that day as a Battousai?"

"Don't worry, Sensei. The Kodachi you gave me had another wonderful name. It's called 'Ichi Hitokiru' or 'One Hit Kill'. Is it a beautiful name? As for the katana, it is called 'Shinrai to yujo' because I want to use it for reincarnation for those who had fallen. I can't use the word 'Tensei' because it belonged to the brother of the hanyou I was talking about."

"How come you knew of so many demons? You ever met them in battle or they ever come by passing your village before?"

"It is best to my knowledge, Sensei. There would be other demons who took a human form while some demons are just, demons. There will be a time when you will meet a sister with a younger brother who was demon slayers or 'youkai taijiya' somewhere in the Youkai Taijiya Village somewhere near Midoriko's Cave."

"Hmm....i have never heard of this cave before. But maybe those senior samurai would be able to know where the location was."

"Yes Sensei, it can be considered as it exists only in manga or anime world but not in this real world though. But the people I mentioned earlier exists but it's really hard to find."

"Hmm...wellxot would be interesting if we could find them. Do you think they would accept people like us? I mean if they do exists do they accept samurai to be their companions? I'm itching to kill some demons too."

"Well, Sensei...if we exist in their world then their series would take a drastic turn. We both are known characters in our own ways. And if we merge with them, then Rumiko Takahashi would have to rewrite the episodes and I am not sure she would do that. But maybe if we enter during their prologue, just like the both of us right now."

"I see... I see... So in our prologue, this was the beginning that was not even written in the history right?"

"Yes, Sensei... It was not even written in any novel yet. That's why you are 24 and I am 11. We still got about 4 years before I first starred in the Trust and Betrayal episodes. So in these 4 years, I want to see what I could develop into and then move on just before. Furthermore, our story got a bit twisted along the way when we first met and the plot changed so it takes on a different kind of view."

"That's right Himura, I was supposed to find you burying the bandits and all those fallen villagers but instead I found you in the snow. I was supposed to be passing by alone when I witnessed a group of bandits ambushed a travelling caravan and you were the sole survivor."

"That's right, Sensei... If there's no change in the plot the story would have fast forwarded and there weren't many chapters to read. That time I was to be called Shinta and you named me Himura Kenshin. You decided to take me as a disciple from that day."

" Ah... Correct. That's what it's supposed to be by then a change in the plot makes it more interesting to read right? "

" Yes, Sensei... That's right. By adding you as apart of the Samurai shogunate as well as adding 4 more side characters then this series had wonderful fillers in between. If not we won't even reach 16 chapters in this series."

"Oh...thats right Himura. I agree with you. At least there are more elaborate reads in this series rather than the normal ones that many people would know about our history. Furthermore, I don't think we could enjoy ourselves if we were to stick to the main plot and this twist, I'd really like."

"Yes, Sensei. By the way, are you going to drink the sake all by yourself or you want me to boil some green tea later? It would be nice to snack after dinner and then we can go to the Realm of Mind to witness the insertion of my blood essence and the blade washing too. If you have any dead weapons in your collection, you can bring them along to the Realm of Mind for me to blade wash your weapons to make it more harder and durable."

"Nevermind, it is OK. Maybe some other time I would bring it into the Realm of Mind. At the meantime, just watching you alone doing the work on the katana excites me already. I have never been to this kind of Realm before and never experiences of the visualisation of things that were before you."

"Furthermore what happened there would also affect our real world right? I was thinking of sparring with a few guys in your Realm of Mind but I better put it off right now. Just concentrate one thing at a time first then."

"Yes, Sensei. That's right. It's better for us to enter and exit the Realm of Mind together and if we wanted to experiment of our skills, we can kill shadows instead and we can call another person in to assist us. He could call upon" Kage Bunshin no Jutsu" and we can practise taking them a few at a time. These clones, however, would be able to hurt us back, so be wary."

Hiko-sama was so excited that he was rubbing his hands together and grinning like a boy that received a present on his birthday. It seems he can't wait to enter the Realm of Mind to spar with a 100 Shadow Clones.

Well, if the Realm of Mind were to put to good use, then it would be most beneficial for us. With a mix and match of other side characters to make this series in the Edo period of Japan, hope it would transfix the readers to their mobile phones all the time.

The yatai that was selling Ramen came and Hiko-sama sama gestured two bowls. He then asked me to fetch two of our bowls from the kitchenette and to place it for the seller to prepare them.

I went to the kitchenette and found 2 large bowls, 2 pairs of chopsticks and 2 porcelain spoons and passed them to Hiko-sama as I gave the bowls to the seller. In a short while later, the seller served us the two bowls of Ramen and Hiko-sama paid up for only 1 silver coin for both bowls.

It was cheap and convenient, and soon we began eating the bowl of Ramen. It was very delectable and eating such on a cool winter's evening makes a great accompaniment.

I looked at the fires that I had made in the backyard and now it had completely burned out. There was only the charred remaining in the ground and soon the wind and snow would be able to help to spread the burnt remains and act as compost.

There was nothing much to do except to toil the land. With the help of the Kamehameha, the hoe that would be used to toil the land would melt the snow and sleet and makes it easier to work on just like it was springtime.

I looked at the backyard as I slowly finished up the ramen. It quietens down my stomach a bit since there would be some work to be done later on in the Realm of Mind, it seems to be a good idea to stuff more energy giving foods in the body.

Soon sellers of all kinds pushing their yatai across the district and Hiko-sama stopped every one of them and bought 2 portions each. Except for the senbei and yakiniku we had the other night, he ordered a bunch of taiyaki, gyoza and 2 tomorokoshi for desserts.

Taiyaki were small fish-shaped baked cakes that had fillings of red beans, green beans, coconut, or sweet potatoes in them and were bite-sized. It was like a waffle kind of fillings but were much smaller. Hiko-sama bought a dozen of that taiyaki.

The gyoza was small dumplings that were filled with chicken, fish or meat with diced potatoes, onions and chives and were deep fried. It was an all-time snack that can be eaten after or between meals. Hiko-sama bought about 6 pieces since the hot buns given by the innkeeper had long finished.

Tomorokoshi was Japanese sweet corn that was boiled in a huge cauldron and then the ears of the corn were peeled and grilled over a charcoal fire with a pinch of salt. It was simply yummy since this is the best way to eat sweet corn and not those glutinous type of corn that was used mainly for feeds.

The Tomorokoshi could be eaten straight off the grill or decorned from the cob. Eaten with thick sweet cream, with butter with salt or simply with a bit of coconut shavings and salt, either way, it would be great. Both Hiko-sama and I chose to eat straight from the cob instead thus the price was slightly cheaper than being decorned from the cob.

Chicks and ducks waddled close to the yatai as some bits of the corns fell to the ground and was quickly gobbled up by the small little animals. Even the tomorokoshi was favoured by both humans and animals.

After eating the corn on a cob or tomorokoshi, I told Hiko-sama that we would be entering the Realm of Mind soon. He gave me a thumbs up and gave me the cob that he had finished.

I brought the taiyaki and gyoza into the kitchenette and used a food cover to cover them once I placed them on a plate. Both the eaten tomokoshi had been disposed in the receptacle and would later be burnt at the backyard along with other rubbish collected over the few days.

I motioned Hiko-sama to enter the small bedroom as he closed the sliding door of the house and immediately sat down on the floor and started to meditate. It seems he was very eager to enter the Realm of Mind with me this time and anticipated to see how the progress on finishing the katana.

I soon meditated and entered the Realm of Mind with a full stomach. Soon afterwards, we both entered the Realm of Mind and in front of us, there was all the blacksmithing tools, a grinding stone as well as my katana that I had lain against the anvil earlier.

I picked the katana and held it by its handle and measured it. As I held it by my side, the tip misses the ground by a few centimetres and I discovered that it was the perfect length for me.

I fired up the furnace and used the bellows to pump the airflow. I placed the katana that I had already forged and place it into the coals.

"Why do you need to put the readied katana in the furnace again? Is it for the blood Essense?"

"Yes, Sensei. I will induce my blood into it when it's still red hot. And once done, I will let it cool off a bit before I submerged it into the tub of water. Then I could perform the blade washing on it already."

"Oh... Interesting. I thought there's not necessary to place the katana in the coals again."

I smiled as I pumped the bellows and soon, the katana that I had placed on the bed of coals became red hot. I took it and placed it on an anvil. Then I visualised a sharp razor blade and I used it to slit the left palm and I squeeze it tightly in a ball of a fist.

Blood soon trickled down and the moment it touches the red hot blade, it sizzled loudly as if it was anticipating my blood as it merged with into the blade. I ran my blood in the centre of the blade and after the sizzling died down, a gleam shone on the blade.

The reflection of the sunray hits the blade and it glinted off its surface and hit Hiko-sama's direction. He jumped a few steps back and was awed and shock.

"My God...! I can see flashes of blades coming at me just by the glinting of it by the sunlight. All my weapons don't have that kind of glint, it was as if it was mirror finish."

"This is just the beginning, Sensei. Let me soak this in the water here and then I can start the blade washing."

"Ok, I'd just wait here. I wish I had bought some Kushikatsu and I could munch while waiting for you to complete the task. By the way, after blade washing, you going to bring back the katana to our real world right?"

"Yes, Sensei... I would bring it back to our real world. By the way, don't you think it is unfair for you to eat while I'm working? Hee... Hee... Hee..."

"Haa... Haa... Not at all, at least I could keep myself busy or maybe drink a jar of sake or what you called as yumueshu."

"Alright, Sensei. I have cooled off the katana and I am going to blade wash it next. Just hang around, it would take some time like an hour or so."

I lifted the blade out from the tub of water as the blade was like having a life in its own as it continued to gleam in my hands. There was even a slight heartbeat thumping that I felt in my hands as well.

"It's just part of my imagination I think as I sat before the grinding stone and stepped the pedal that helps the round grinding stone to rotate. If I had used a normal grinding stone it would even take up more than one hour to perform my blade washing.

I slowly stepped in the pedal and the round grinding stone slowly turned as I placed the blade on it. Screeching sounds of metal hitting the grinding stone was heard and I poured water on it to prevent it from overheating.

When I used the grinding stone to sharpen one side of the blade, a shower of sparks came from the grinding stone as I stepped on the pedal faster thus making the grinding stone moves faster as well.

More and more sparks flew from the grinding off the katana that I was blade washing as I kept grinding and pouring water to cool off the blade. I then turned to the blunt side of the blade to smoothen it down.

I wanted to use the blunt side to parry off the incoming strikes from another katana and I wanted to make sure the blunt side would be flat and hard to repel such attacks. No one would use the sharp side of the katana to be used to parry oncoming strikes as it would chip the sharpened edge instead.

However, a chipped blunt edge could be easily repaired and I have to make sure that the sharpened blade won't be too thin either. Or else if someone parried it with a blunt side, the sharpened edge may break and shorten the life of the katana.

However, in this case where the blade was forged by me, and an injection of blood Essense was induced, I am sure that this katana would be able to withstand any oncoming attacks.
