Chapter 59 - Flame Refinery

"Sit in a corner and be silent." The old man said as his psychic arm carried out a large chunk of Healing Salve from it, morphing it into a sphere before it was pressured from all sides.

Hearing the old man, Jyorta retreated to a corner and stood there. As for Henrik Bone, he excused himself and flashed away, transporting the rest of the Bone Family members at Tier 1 and Tier 2 to the Bone Family Mansion in the 7th Ring.

Jyorta continued to stare at the scene as his eyes widened, watching the mysterious colours emanating from the old man's psychic arm resemble flames as they danced around and swerved into the sphere of Healing Salve.

Suddenly, the Healing Salve sphere began to shrink rapidly as its colour continued to change, starting from violet all the way to red, and then turning transparent before returning to its initial creamy state.

Slowly, the sphere was compressed until it was only a tenth of its original size as countless substances were sucked out from it. At first glance, they seemed like impurities as the old man sent them into a large container behind him.

Half filled within it were the same impurities, slightly darker creamy in colour.

The remainder of the Healing Salve sphere turned into a fluid as it branched out, turning into ten smaller spheres. A couple of seconds later, they stopped rotating and solidified. The old man inspected them before nodding, "Alright, they're done."

He then stored them carefully in a box to the side glancing at Jyorta to see his confused expression.

Thinking for a moment, the old man felt it was a pain, massaging his forehead as he began to speak, "What I'm using is the Unranked Skill of Flame Refinery. This is the oldest Unranked Skill among humanity, jointly created by the Ancestors. Its function is to refine anything, created to target the Essence of Frenzy."

"Essence of Frenzy?" Jyorta was shocked, "We have a method to deal with them?"

"Of course," The old man nodded, "How else do you think soldiers can replenish their energy reserves by using their Caterpillar or Centipede to devour Heart and Brain Crystals?"

"Every harvested Heart or Brain Crystal is brought to us as we refine it first using Flame Refinery, destroying the invasive properties of the Essence of Frenzy before turning it into a beneficial component." He said, "As the Essence of Frenzy of the Frenzy Beasts continues to evolve every day, an Unranked Skill is necessary to keep up with it. And that's what Flame Refinery is."

"When a soldier consumes a refined Heart of Brain Crystal, the refined Essence of Frenzy within them gets accumulated in the soldier. And, this spurs our evolution too. After all, that's the trait of the Essence of Frenzy." He smirked.

"Then, when I consumed Brain Crystal too much, a white substance began to bleed out of my orifices. Why did that happen?" Jyorta asked.

"You've done that?" The old man was surprised as he took a second glance at Jyorta, "What situation led you to do something that dangerous?"

"Sir, I've been commanded to not disclose details regarding that." Jyorta smiled wryly, replying as such.

"Fair enough." The old man nodded before saying, "That white substance is actually the refined Essence of Frenzy. When consumed in small amounts, it's a tonic that would boost our evolution. But an overdose would result in you losing control at the very least. The fall of your Sync Rate is the first sign."

"I see," Jyorta recalled the experience from when he tried to help Heima, understanding that the situation from back then made better sense now.

He then thought of something, asking, "But sir, if we have been consuming this refined Essence of Frenzy all along, why have humans remained the same? There haven't been any changes to our physique. Whereas, the Frenzy Beasts evolve so much that new races emerge among them constantly."

"The evolutionary changes in humans haven't been displayed in their body." The old man replied, "From the start, based on our genetics, we've already attained our natural physical limits. It's the mind where our evolution lies."

He then smirked, "You'll truly understand it when you reach Tier 4. That's where humanity's evolutionary advantages truly come into play. Moreover,"

He stopped the refinement process for a moment, saying, "Unlike the Frenzy Beasts that constantly morph into new races, we have remained the same and accumulated a treasure trove of information within our genetic material. And, that's best reflected in our Skills."

"This is the reason the Skills of humanity are the strongest and constantly continue to be so."

Jyorta's eyes widened in surprise as he digested the details, feeling enlightened as thoughts exploded in his mind, causing him to understand a core detail that he had failed to neglect all along.

The evolution and development that he was chasing after with his Tower of God project wasn't something out there. But it was already within him, countless millennia of evolution before the dark ages and centuries worth post-apocalypse.

He should manifest them wholly and take them a step further. That's how he'll be able to develop in all four paths.

"Thank you for your time, sir." Jyorta bowed in response.

"It's fine." The old man nodded, "I was feeling a bit bored recently anyway. Might as well teach a brat some good things to ponder about."

He then pointed at the tiny spheres that he was storing in a box nearby, "These are what you call as Healing Pellets. Ingesting them would not only heal your wounds but also replenish your energy at a quicker pace than eating Healing Salve. Ten Healing Pellets are enough to replenish a Ground Controller's energy to the limit."

"Before, refining the Healing Salve produced from Developers took a lot longer to produce a Healing Pellet. But, the current Healing Salve is at Tier 4 level, so this is pretty helpful." He laughed, "It's all thanks to the Tier 4 Relic of Bone Devour. From the day it was created, it has been put to constant use, so much so that…"

He grinned as his tone turned strangely chill-inducing, "It almost made us force the Shifters from the Bone Family to create more of such Relics."
