344 Chapter 338 : : Gifts

"So you bought it? Show it to me," Lerna extended her hand while suspiciously looking at him.

"I didn't buy it, hey stop! Hear me out first, the cultivation techniques on the market are trash, so I thought, why don't I make one for my baby myself, er.. why are you still staring at me? Do you think I can't even make a cultivation technique for him?" Rex said in an annoyed tone.

[Like hell you can, you have never even seen a cultivation technique solely made for someone of monster race, making one aside without enough data we cannot even modify it,]

'So you have a better excuse? We will arrange one later okay, or yeah, I can ask Zakiya for a better technique...' (Rex)

[And she will present it to you with her utmost respect, or maybe she will handover her personal cultivation technique to show her love towards you... That is, if she doesn't seal your cultivation base and release 10 Shadow Wolves to chase you whole night in Misty Maze Forest,]

Rex lips controverted.

He was having a hard time keeping up with the rapidly growing Rose. He wanted to refute but the words Rose said were correct, he didn't want to admit it but Zakiya did give him way more benefit compared to a normal teacher to their disciple in such a short period without trying to ponder too deep in his secrets but if he goes out of his way to ask for more, then it won't be seen as good behaviour, it will be like taking advantage of her and Zakiya probably won't teach him this with just words.

Lerna exhaled deeply and didn't peruse this matter more, she seemed to have believed his words.

"That aside, how was your day? Did you get something good in your inheritance?" Rex secured the opportunity and changed the topic.

According to what Sung Lee had told them about the Beast God Temple, the inheritance obtained cannot be given to others or that person will suffer from misfortune but just looking or observing wasn't a problem as long as someone else doesn't attempt to use it.

Rex didn't understand that concept or logic behind it but he had seen too many new things in this world so he refrained himself from trying something risky, it was exactly why he held back his curiosity to try and enter the Beast God Temple himself.

Lerna showed a helpless look when she heard his words and took out an object from her storage ring.

Rex was wondering if she got something useless but nevertheless, he decided to see the goods first.

It was a half-transparent glass sphere, when Rex carefully looked at it, he saw some green liquid enclosed inside the little empty space at the center of the sphere.

'This is... a law seal?' Rex thought while observing the surface of the sphere.

Because of Zakiya's lectures, his knowledge in the field of seals and arrays was way above others in the middle realm.

When he came in contact with the sphere, the two flames in his dantian became restless, and he noticed the presence of the Flame Law seal on it.

As the name says, a law seal uses the power of laws to make it, only when a cultivator's mastery of a particular law reaches Return To Nature state, can they learn to make Law Seals using the power of that law.

'The person who put this law seal didn't use any concealing method to hide it but normal people here aren't even aware of Law Seals anyway so even if they discover it they cannot do anything about it, these law seals are probably the reason behind those rumors related to curse and misfortune,' Rex thought.

"When you got this item, did that pers- whatever thing that gave you the inheritance told you to drop your blood on it?" Rex asked.

"The instructions appeared on that stone slab with this thing, it was written that I cannot leave the temple until I do that," Lerna said in a dissatisfied tone, she doesn't like it when she is forced to do something.

Rex nodded while observing the thing inside the glass sphere.

"After I followed the instructions and got this thing, a brief description of this item appeared on that slab saying it was some Hydra's True Essence and it is good for me," Lerna added.

Rex's eyelids flickered.

When a high bloodline creature dies, they can condense all their blood essence into their true essence for their descendants or inheritor to use. Rex didn't know what type or level of hydra it was who sealed its true essence inside but if it was a true Hydra at divine level then it was the ticket for Lerna to ascension to being a divine beast or a step towards divinity at the very least, something every spirit beast longs for.

'It can't be a true Hydra, can it? If I ask Zakiya she can break the seal on this... but,' Rex looked at Lerna from the corner of his eyes, she was looking at the glass sphere in frustration.

Now he understood why Lerna looked helpless and annoyed when taking it out, it wasn't that the thing was useless but the fact that she can't use it on her baby.

'Little Aru has stepped on a totally different race route after mutation, he has pure bloodline because he is my descendant in a way especially when I'm the progenitor of my bloodline, if this thing is used on him then he would likely be pulled towards Hydra route again which doesn't seem that good, his physical status is already good, it shouldn't be weaker than any divine beast child.

As for me, I have used Zakiya's blood in my last evolution, this blood isn't that helpful to me if it doesn't belong to a true Hydra, if I tell this doting mother that I have a way to break the seal then it is unlikely that she will obedient use it.

Now the question is, if it belongs to a true Hydra or an impure one. Well, whatever...

I can't snatch her gains for a gamble like that, if this really belongs to a true Hydra and Lerna succeeds to break her shackles from being a spirit beast then I can use her blood instead of this one for the DNA signature, this way she won't lose anything and I will also earn a good DNA signature,' Rex thought.

Rex wasn't able to analyze the essence sealed inside because of the seals, and he can't make Lerna open it right now because then she would have to use it on the spot.

"Listen, don't use it right now, only use it after you reach the peak stage of Sky Body Formation stage, this way you will earn maximum benefits," Rex said.

Once someone becomes a Calamity Lord their cultivation base can be counted in the same way as any other cultivator.

Lerna lazily nodded while mumbling something to herself.

Rex handed the glass sphere back to her.

"There is one thing I'm curious about, just what did you use to gain such a thing?" Rex asked. He didn't expect the Beast God Temple to have such a thing, it was totally out of his expectations that's why he was curious as to what Lerna had used, after all, that thing needs to be something she seriously likes to get this.

"Oh, that, you remember when baby Aru was just born, I used to bring weak beasts to train him and let him get used to his strength," Lerna said.

"Yeah, so?" Rex said in confusion.

"In many battles, he valiantly fought and sometimes got injured because of inexperience, he sometimes bled, his scales fell, few of his nails also broke, during those fights, I had to restrain myself and watch from sidelines," Lerna said with a pained expression.

"Yeah so... wait don't tell me... " Rex had a feeling where the conversation was going.

"Yes, at that time, I collected all those things to keep them as a memory, but to get stronger I had to give up those things, I did something I shouldn't but it was the best choice to gain the best inheritance," Lerna said with a sad expression, she looked like someone who had lost something very precious to them.

Rex opened and closed his mouth several times but wasn't able to find the right words to express his emotions.

For some reason, he felt really bad for the founder and makers of the Beast God Temple, if they knew how someone used the loophole in their system and got something like the True Essence of a Hydra in exchange for some blood, broken scales, and nails of a Monster King then they might come out of their graves to curse at Lerna.

The most hilarious thing Rex saw in this incident was Lerna still doubting if she made the right choice.

Rex did two seconds of silence for the person who is going to get those things in its inheritance later on.

"Okay let's put that aside for now, I brought you something special, Ta~ Da~ it's a transformable dress..." Rex said as he took out the one-piece gown from his inventory and presented it in front of Lerna.

Lerna first briefly stared at the 'dress' that looked thinner than her handkerchief then she stared at Rex with a poker face.

"Why don't you wear it?" Lerna said as she sat up and snatched the dress from his hand at lightning speed.

"Huh? Hehe, when did you learn to joke around like this?" Rex gave a hollow laugh while taking a step back.

"Hmm..." Lerna didn't speak but got off the bed and took a step towards him.

"It isn't funny you know, actually it's just an innerwear," Rex said with a stiff face but Lerna ignored it.

[Serves you right,]

'Shut up you bastard, don't you care about our self-respect?' (Rex)

[It can't be eaten, neither can it make us stronger,]

Rex was thinking of making an excuse when it came walking to his door.

Knock...Knock...

"No kidding, someone is on the door, you sit back and let me handle it," Rex said then rushed towards the door.

"Humph," Lerna snorted. She turned around and sat on the sofa near the bed, she then took out her book, placed her legs on the bed, and continued reading it from where she left off.

Rex slightly opened the door and saw a fat dwarf in a brown robe standing outside, he was holding a small wooden box in both of his hands.

When he saw Rex, he smiled deeply, showing his big white teeth, and spoke.

"Hello, I'm Kord from Shedin Clan, our clan has sent a gift for respected Mr. Rex, an inheritor of Venerable Wolf...."

Before Kord could complete his sentence, Rex interrupted him. took the box from his hands, and smiled.

"I'm really grateful to Shedin Clan for their gift, I shall not reject their kindness so I will accept it, and let's skip it..., Say hello to Shedin Clan from my side okay, see you later then," Rex said with a wide smile, he then took the box from his hands and shut the door with a 'slam' that left Kord stunned.

Kord looked at his empty hands then at the closed door, he felt like the script was somewhat wrong, wasn't he supposed to be brought in and treated respectfully after his gift was accepted? Wasn't Rex going to negotiate about joining their clan or partnership once he accepted the gift? What happened to the unspoken rule between cultivators? Why was his gift got treated literally as a 'gift'?

Now that the gift was already taken, he couldn't snatch it back, and from the behaviour earlier the chances of Rex letting him in seemed very slim, so Kord decided to head back to the clan and discuss this matter with the elders first.

Thinking of this, he walked down the corridor and just arrived at the stairs when he saw a familiar old dwarf coming his way with a wooden box in his hands.

When that dwarf saw Kord, he quickly put his box into his storage ring, smiled at him then passed by his side.

Seeing him leaving, Kord inwardly sneered, he could see his own image in that old dwarf and knew what was going to happen next.

Kord kept standing there for a few minutes, soon he saw that old dwarf coming back with a dark expression and burst into laughter. He didn't delay anymore and rushed back to his clan, by now he had figured out one thing about the mysterious inheritor of Venerable Wolford and that was, his face is extremely thick.

Inside the room...

Rex opened both the wooden boxes and the content inside made his heart bloom.

"Seriously, a total of 5 kg Crimson Volcan Ore which is only found in around 100 kg amount inside a whole volcanic rock mine and 1 kg Netheril Cold Steel, it's more precious than Crimson Volcan Ore. It is one of the top 5 strongest types of steel refined in the whole middle realm, it's very rare on the market, and its refining recipe is a secret in Davalon, but not anymore hehe... I had bought Abyssal Black Steel as an alternative because it wasn't in the stock but to think it came walking to my door," Rex laughed while observing a rough crimson rock and a light blue cube made of lustrous metal.

Lerna peeked at Rex while reading her book, seeing him tricking people like this, she couldn't help but slightly curl her lips.
