Chapter 156 - 19 - My First Dragon-type

Name:Pokemon Pearl Author:Marc0702
Shortly thereafter, all of them ventured out into the Safari habitats, trying to catch Pokémon with their only Safari Balls given by the Safari staff. And as they walk along, they saw an Axew and a Shieldon playing on the grass happily. Rico was amazed to see a Dragon-type Pokémon, and wanted to catch it; so, he grabbed one of his Safari Balls and threw it towards Axew, causing the Pokémon to go into the Ball. This scares the wild Shieldon, causing it to flee. The Safari Ball then fell to the ground and waited to be fully intact. But, a few seconds later, the Pokémon managed to escape out of the Safari Ball and flee the scene. Watching this failed scene, Rico was shocked and sighed in disappointment that he didn't managed to catch that Pokémon. But Jonathan comforted him, telling him not to give up and just do his best.

Later on, Isaiah had the same scenario when he tried to catch a Vanillite at a small, but cold, icy biome high in the mountains with stairs as access to the high place.

Rico only have 24 Safari Balls left and still no luck on catching any Pokémon. Isaiah is the same as well, having no luck yet. Jonathan was looking at a view on a big rock for areas with Pokémon. Their Pokémon are with them, but abiding to the Safari Zone rules, they're not allowed to have battles with the Safari Pokémon. It was noon, but the temperatures are somewhere between temperate and continental, providing them with sufficient coolness and heat.

"Man, that was so hard," Isaiah commented as he wipe the sweat off his forehead.

"Me too, really depends on luck," agreed Rico as he sat on another big rock in exhaustion from the long walk across the safari habitats. Rico's Lucario then responded in mild exhaustion as it sat next to its Trainer. At this point, Jonathan was worried about Rico and Isaiah's well-being, thinking that they might be disappointed in the entire trip. But how he supposed to handle it until the last Safari Ball was thrown and no Pokémon was caught?

Shortly thereafter, they continued on across, and then suddenly, they saw another wild Axew, which was playing around the green grass all by itself. Seeing this as a new opportunity, Rico grabbed another of his Safari Balls and threw it towards Axew, causing the the ball to open and wild Pokémon to go inside the it, catching it with the ball closed back moments after. The Safari Ball then fell to the ground and waits to be fully intact. Rico then waits for it to be successfully caught. Then, seven seconds later, it was successfully caught. This prompts Rico to run towards, pick it up, and take a closer look at it. And then, with the feeling that he had successfully caught a Dragon-type, Rico raised the said Safari Ball up in the air and excitement, and the shouted with enthusiasm, "Yes, I got an Axew!" Lucario then joined his Trainer in celebrating enthusiasm.

Jonathan was happy that his younger brother had managed to catch a Dragon-type, but Isaiah, however, was a bit down about the fact that he haven't catch a single Pokémon. But, luckily for him, Rico wasn't prideful about his achievements so Rico encouraged him not to give up again and try again.

By afternoon, at around 3 or 4 in the afternoon, the group are tired from all that walking. Rico had almost no energy just to walk. Jonathan almost had his energy drained from walking, while Isaiah, with only one Safari Ball left, was as exhausted as Rico, along with their Pokémon. It was a golden-like afternoon with the sun setting in the west at the waters near the coast of Saint Martins. Pokémon birds are flying westward. Back at the Safari Zone, Isaiah looked at his one, remaining Safari Ball, thinking that he might fail again on the next catch. But he took the risk, searching for more Ice-type Pokémon at a distance. But then, instead of an Ice-type, a a Grass-type Pokémon named Skiddo appeared from the bushes and shrubs and suddenly saw Isaiah with the others. It then got startled by them, backing away from them slowly. Upon seeing that Pokémon, Isaiah's interest became focused on Skiddo, thinking that, instead of struggling to get what he really wanted, he decided that Skiddo was really good to be a part of his team. So, holding his only Safari Ball, Isaiah made his decision, aiming his Ball towards Skiddo and threw it towards it, causing the said Ball to open itself and catch Skiddo into it, before closing it and fall to the ground while waiting for it to be intact. Isaiah was in a mix of anxiety and being pressured on his last chance, while Rico, Jonathan, and the rest are watched in strange anticipation. And then, finally, the Pokémon inside the Safari Ball was successfully intact. Having finally caught his Pokémon of the Safari Zone, Isaiah ran to pick it up. Once he picked it up, he was overjoyed on his success. He then enthusiastically shouted out, "Yay! I got a Skiddo!" Rico and the rest then come to him and commented on his achievement. Isaiah, now in tears of joy, thanked them for encouraging him all the way.

Later by 4:30 p.m., they went back to the Safari Zone, only to be greeted by a member of the Safari Zone staff, and she asked them if they had enjoyed the habitats.

"Yes, we did," Rico answered her happily. "It was an enjoyable time we had." Lucario then responded with happiness.

"We had a great time here," Jonathan added as well positively. He luckily had managed to catch some Pokémon like Shieldon.

Isaiah, holding his only Safari Ball, then added in bright positivity, "Yeah, we did."

Their responses really delight the staff member, and she asked them if they wanted to come back to the habitats, reminding them that they must pay again if they wanted to come back. But, the group said no, telling her that they are now leaving. Jonathan then gave her the remaining 17 Safari Balls he didn't use in habitats.

"All right then, come again soon!" the staff member said her farewells towards the group. After that, Rico and his group then left the building together, and at the streets down to the town as then sun beautifully, with Jonathan wrapping his arms around Rico and Isaiah in great friendship.
