Chapter 287 His Likes And Dislikes

Mother and son sat quietly in the living room of Kang Jun's house.

As Mo Ruyi read through the files given to her, Kang Jun sat opposite of her with his computer on his lap.

Kang Jun had been neglecting the company a bit since his investigations began, which meant that he had more than twice the amount of work he usually had and this had to be dealt with, mostly now that he planned on leaving Kang Corporations in less than six months.

As Kang Jun typed away on his computer, he began to have an urge for some sweets but when he looked up, he realized he had not seen Rong Lihua since entering the house.

Rong Lihua was actually home but at that moment she had been cleaning upstairs so she hadn't noticed that someone had entered the house.

Once the woman came down and then suddenly saw both Kang Jun and Mo Ruyi in the living room, the old woman couldn't help but let out a loud yelp.

This sound drew both Mo Ruyi and Kang Jun's attention to her.

Realizing what she had just done, Rong Lihua cleared her throat before she awkwardly said, "Excuse me, young master..."

Kang Jun shook his head and then he stood up. "No. I'm sorry for not announcing my arrival."

Hearing the words 'I'm sorry' come out of her son's mouth, Mo Ruyi couldn't help but look at the boy strangely and then, her eyes sharpened.

Kang Jun was always a rebellious person. Whether it was when he was a child or an adult, Mo Ruyi had never gotten the boy to do anything he didn't want to do. This was why she was not shocked when Kang Jun had left without saying a word at 18, or that he'd gotten married in secret. The man was a free spirit who couldn't be changed but now, Mo Ruyi had noticed that he had changed. But truly, she hadn't just realized this now...

Mo Ruyi had noticed a change in the man since he had announced his marriage. Kang Jun was now calmer, and softer but also more passionate. And the man wore it well.

Mo Ruyi was happy but the woman was still shocked... On the other hand, there Rong Lihua was no longer taken aback by Kang Jun's new manners. Ever since he had met Lu AnLing, Kang Jun was more civil with others. He was still cold but he used words like please, thank you and sorry.

"Why are you home today young master? And where are the young madame and the kids?" Rong Lihua asked curiously.

"I don't plan on staying tonight. I just have some business with my mother." When he said this, Rong Lihua nodded. She was then going to get out of their way but before she could, Kang Jun said, "Could you please prepare some tea and snacks."

Kang Jun did not specify what kinds of snacks he wanted but Rong Lihua had been with him long enough for her to know his tastes.

"We still have the cookies made by the young madame. Will that be fine?" Rong Lihua asked.

To this, Kang Jun nodded and then he took his seat.

It didn't take long for Rong Lihua to come in with a platter of cookies and tea for the both of them.

"I'm not sure how you like your tea Madame, so I brought the cream." Rong Lihua said to Mo Ruyi as she placed the cream near her and the sugar near Kang Jun.

"Please enjoy." Rong Lihua said before she left to do her own things.

Meanwhile, Mo Ruyi starred at her son, who grabbed a cookie, deeply and she began to feel a bit empty. She and her son had never been too close. She wasn't sure if this was her fault or not but nothing could change that fact. This became more obvious to her when she realized that she did not know his likes or dislikes...

"I didn't know you had a live-in housekeeper." Mo Ruyi said to detract the emotions she felt manifesting inside her heart.

"It's not for you to know." Kang Jun replied swiftly as he continued to work on his computer with his free hand.

"It's just that she seems to know you well..." As she said this, Mo Ruyi could hear how jealous she sounded. It embarrassed her deeply, but for now, she was more concerned with her son...

Mo Ruyi's relationship with Kang Jun was simple. They were mother and child and they both cared for each other but they did not show it and sometimes they were antagonistic about it...

Kang Jun frowned. "Of course she knows me well. She has been cleaning my house, cooking my food, and taking care of my every need for years now."

This felt like a slap in Mo Ruyi's face.

Hearing this, Mo Ruyi felt as if the words she wanted to say were stuck in her throat.

But then, forcing herself, Mo Ruyi frowned and said, "I know that. What else do housekeepers do? I was just stating the obvious. I didn't require an answer so stop being mouthy with me. I don't understand what's your problem with me but I'm done catering to your coldness"

Mo Ruyi was tired and confused. She had married into the Kang family for a simpler life for both her and Kang Jun but it seemed like she had just destroyed her relationship with her son and she had sent the boy to deal with a train wreck of family affairs.

As Mo Ruyi spoke, Kang Jun continued to type away on his computer but he listened to every word the woman said.Feeling annoyed, Kang Jun lifted his head and spoke.

Kang Jun: "I learned that from you. If you don't want me to be cold with you why don't you teach me by example."

Kang Jun's voice did not contain emotion but deep down he felt a bit strange. His mother had never been only his mother. Even when Mo Yichen had not lived with them, she had been Kang Zhi's, Kang Nianxi's and Kang Liu Ran's.

The man had never craved his mother's love, but while growing up he knew that he wanted to be close to her... Special to her, but she was fair. She did not show more love to one son or the other despite the fact that Kang Jun was her biological son. And because of the woman's coldness and the fact that Mo Ruyi did not need to love his other brothers, Kang Jun had always felt like Mo Ruyi was exceptionally cold to him.

This was not true. The woman was just trying to make a harmonious house without any infighting. This was not wrong, and even the younger Kang Jun could not fault the woman for this, but still... Kang Jun felt like one of the reasons that he lacked the ability to deeply connect with others was partially because he had never been able to do it with his own mother.

As he thought this, Kang Jun suddenly received a text message from Lu AnLing. It said,

Lu AnLing: [I need your help, darling, what do I do?]

Reading this, Kang Jun felt himself forget his mother, his past and even what he was doing at the moment. The man just pushed himself up from the sofa and said,

"I'll be back."

Seeing the almost indescribable expression of worry and care imaginable on her son's face, Mo Ruyi did not say another word.

Mo Ruyi was worried that her son might have fallen too much in love with Lu AnLing.

Yes, the girl was nice but after hearing what had happened in the past from the mouths of Feng Zhengyi and Rong Yue Wan, Mo Ruyi had wondered if Lu AnLing was truly a vixen in sheep's clothing.

Mo Ruyi hoped this wasn't so... not only because Mo Ruyi found herself liking the girl, or that this would hurt her son, but because with a woman like that manipulating him, Kang Jun would stop at nothing to destroy all her enemies, even if they were his own family.

But as soon as she thought this, Mo Ruyi stumbled upon the paternity tests...
