Chapter 272 In The Mind Of A Dead Man

Leaning closer towards the screen Kang Liang watched as Kang Zhi opened the door to Lu AnLing's room. He brought the girl inside and then he came out and searched Kang Jun before he sighed and brought the man inside Lu AnLing's room.

It seemed like Kang Jun did not have his room key on him...

Kang Liang thought it was over but moments later, Kang Liang saw Kang Zhi leave the room as he spoke to someone on the phone. The man's face was pained.

After seeing this, he waited for a moment to see if Kang Jun or Lu AnLing would also leave but they didn't.

Seeing this, Kang Liang frowned hard.

"Are you listening to me?" Mo Yichen said with annoyance.

It had been quiet for a long moment and Mo Yichen began to wonder if Kang Liang had hung up on him.

"Yeah! Sorry! I'll do whatever you want when all this is over. I'll even clean the floor with my tongue is you want. I promise!" Kang Liang said with a slightly high pitched voice. It was obvious he wasn't really listening to Mo Yichen and Mo Yichen noticed but before the man could begin on a rant, Kang Liang said, "Anyhow... Thanks for your held. I need to go, now. I'm super busy. Talk to you later!"

Without waiting for an answer, Kang Liang hung up and then he dialled Kang Jun's number.

After telling Kang Jun about what he had learned at the party, Kang Jun had unblocked his number, which made it much easier for Kang Liang and Kang Jun to share information.

Answering the phone, Kang Jun sounded annoyed but Kang Liang didn't feel offended since this was the man's usual tone with him.

For the longest time, Kang Liang's calls were synonymous with annoyance and it seemed like Kang Jun's mind had not forgotten this.

"Did you sleep with AnLing years ago, at Hotel Helios?!" Kang Liang said, unable to keep his voice calm.

"Yes." Kang Jun said as if Kang Liang had just asked him if he had eaten breakfast.

Hearing this, Kang Liang's world just paused.

"Wow. Holy hell... so you slept with a girl and you didn't tell any of us? Then you get married to that same girl!? You sly dog. I can't believe you!" Kang Liang almost whistled.

Hearing this, Kang Jun pinched the space between his eyebrows and growled. "Is that all you called me to say?"

"No, no, no, no! Wait! Don't hang up," Kang Liang said frantically. After saying this, Kang Liang sighed. "I mean it would have been nice if you had told me... but what I want to know is if you remember anything... you know, from that night? Like.... why were you there?"

Kang Jun retraced his steps verbally to Kang Liang. He didn't remember much, because this had been a long time ago, but if there was one thing he remembered, it was that he was at a business meeting...

"Zhi and I were having dinner with a couple of shareholders." Kang Jun said slowly as he tried remembering the details.

Kang Liang: "Okay, well... who made the reservations at Hotel Helios?"

Thinking about it, Kang Jun frowned...

"Zhi." Kang Jun said with a sigh.

"Well that's not helpful..." Kang Liang's said to himself. "Okay... well how about, do you remember who recommended meeting at Hotel Helios?"

Kang Liang hopes that something would come out of his questioning but sadly, Kang Jun said,"I don't know. I think Grandfather told Zhi and Zhi told me to come to meet him there."

It was unfortunate that everything that they needed to know was in the mind of a dead man. And There was no way that Kang Jun would end up getting this information even if he did ask Elder Kang. The man was old and 8 years was a hell of a long time.

Thinking about it, Kang Liang sighed himself and then he said, "Okay, forget about the why you were there. Do you remember what you drank or ate?"

The line went quiet for a second as Kang Jun thought.

"I didn't eat. What I drank...? Mostly water. And some random drink Zhi offered me." Kang Jun continued to speak slowly as he thought about it.

"So you're telling me that our older brother had all the answers?" Kang Liang said. The man was exasperated but at the same time, he knew he couldn't let himself be dejected. "Do you maybe think that he had something to do with this?"

Kang Jun: "I doubt it but I'll check out the possibility."

As soon as this was said, Kang Jun hung up on Kang Liang.

Meanwhile, at Mo Sheng's place, Madame Mo opened the door to the recording studio.

"I brought some snacks," Madame Mo said as she walked through the door.

"Thank you," Lu AnLing said with a smile.

"Mom, you didn't need to bring it here, we could have eaten it in the dining room..." Mo Sheng said a bit awkwardly. He wasn't used to being home yet or interacting with his mom.

Seeing the little bit of awkwardness, Lu AnLing smiled and then she stood up.

"Sheng's right. We'll eat it in the dining room with you." Lu AnLing said kindly as she grabbed the tray out of Madame Mo's hands and walked out of the room with her.

Once in the dining room, Madame Mo smiled and said, "Actually, let's eat in the living room."

Neither Mo Sheng nor Lu AnLing complained.

Inside the living room, they sat, ate and talked.

"So AnLing, I heard your Kang Jun's wife? How is that?" Madame Mo asked in a gossipy kind of fashion.

Lu AnLing felt a bit awkward talking to Mo Sheng's mother about this but looking at how the woman's eyes sparkled at the possibility of juicy gossip, Lu AnLing felt as if she had no choice but to speak.

"It's great. He's great." Lu AnLing said. When saying this, Lu AnLing's voice was stiff and Madame Mo immediatly noticed this.

"He's a very cold man. I'm not assuming anything, it's just that Kang Jun really resembles his mother. You've met her right?" Madame Mo said sweetly.

"Kind of. I haven't really spoken to her..." Lu AnLing could not look into Madame Mo's eyes as she said this.

It was still very awkward so Madame Mo was about to open her mouth and ask more questions but then Mo Sheng sighed. "Mom... Stop with the questions..."

"Why sweetie? This is your friend. I just want to... wait..." Madame Mo said this in a voice full of amusement. As she continued her words, Madame Mo's voice grew with amazement. "Isn't it weird how my son and you have been friends for a while and now you're his aunt?!"

Mo Sheng looked at his mom and frowned. "Mom!"

Mo Sheng got his way of being from his mother. Lu AnLing found them very alike but for some, Mo Sheng was embarassed when his mother said those kids of things.

Seeing the sweet moment between mother and son, Lu AnLing wanted to laugh.

"What?" Madame Mo said with utter confusion and as soon as she sais this, the doorbell rang so Madame Mo ignored her son, turned to Lu AnLing and said, "Excuse me for a second."

As Lu AnLing watched Madame Mo leave, a smile lingered on Lu AnLing's face and her mind couldn't help but wander.

Madame Mo was a kind and soft-spoken woman and no matter how old Mo Sheng was, the woman still treated him like her little boy. Seeing this, Lu AnLing smiled and a part of her began to wonder if her father would treat her somewhat the same when he saw her.

That is if he remembered her...
