Chapter 269 Birds Of A Feather

"Are you okay?" Madame Tang asked Tang Yian.

For a moment, Tang Yian didn't respond. It was not like he didn't want to but he couldn't. It was like he was frozen for a second.

He did not understand why this was happening to him but Tang Yian's head and his heart pounded simultaneously sending shivers down his spine. He had not felt this sensation since the first year after his accident. At that point in time he had tried so hard to remember his life prior to the accident, but as hard as he tried he couldn't...

"Yian?" Madame Tang said with worry, hoping that Tang Yian would answer but he still didn't.

Hearing his own name actually made the pain worse. He remembered random things which he did not understand. There were some images of a run-down old house, but what came to mind were mostly words.

They were said in the voices of two distinct women, one full of immense sadness and anger who screamed,

"Why don't you listen to me?! I can't take her crying anymore."

And the other, the one which really sent shivers down his spine was one of a young girl.

"I hate you!" The girl said with a burning passion.

Those words echoed in his head until words came to his lips.

"My little siren..." Tang Yian said under his breath.

Watching as the man held his hands in his hand, Tang Yiling went over to the man and she put her hand on his back.

Leaning over him, Tang Yiling's face was full of worry.

"Dad?" Tang Yiling said.

As soon as Tang Yian heard her voice, he pushed back the thoughts that were beginning to flood his mind and he said, "I'm fine my little angel... Just a headache. "

Hearing this, Tang Yiling nodded before she laid her head on his shoulder. Feeling this, Tang Yian put his arm around the girl's shoulder and he held her warmly.

"Yian, you should go to the hospital this time. I think it's best if they do a full check up." Elder Tang said, interrupting the father-daughter moment. The old man's eye were dark as he looked at both Tang Yiling and Tang Yian.

Tang Yian nodded. "I will..."

Looking at Tang Yian and Tang Yiling, Madame Tang felt immense guilt wash over her but she did not say anything. She just allowed the two to enjoy their moments while it lasted...

***

In the car, Lu AnLing sat with her head against the window as Kang Jun drove them back to the Kang manor.

Looking at her every so often, Kang Jun checked if the girl was okay, but ever since they had left the Lu family home, Lu AnLing had been as quiet and quiet could be.

It felt a bit uncomfortable but Kang Jun could not think of a topic of conversation so he allowed the car to stay quiet.

"Hey... what do you think about my family?" Lu AnLing suddenly said, breaking the silence.

"Truthfully?" Kang Jun asked coldly.

"Yup." Lu AnLing said as she turned her gaze towards the man.

Feeling the girl's impatient gaze on him, Kang Jun sighed. "Well, your family is a bit strange. They don't quite feel familial... your grandmother, brother, mother and father seem to care about you though. In their own way. If I were to analyze them based on the information I've seen, I would have to say that your brother is the only one who you'll keep in contact with if you ever decide to never to go back to that place again..."

Lu AnLing nodded at every word Kang Jun said and then she spoke herself.

Lu AnLing: "I used to work so hard not to be hated... but now, I feel like I never want to go to that home ever again. I gave everything up in the hopes of doing just that and now I don't have a family... but it's strange. I've never felt so free!"

Kang Jun smiled for her and then at a red light, he turned to the girl, and looked at her with the clearest eyes, before he reached over and touched Lu AnLing's cheek.

She had been so depressed lately, so Kang Jun was so glad to see the cloud, which had loomed over her, dissipate.

"That's good." Kang Jun said sincerely.

Kang Jun was truly happy for her. He understood that Lu AnLing was going through many painful things but when she wasn't happy, the world looked dark to him...

However, for some reason, despite being happy for her, he was also a bit envious of Lu AnLing. He himself wanted to give up everything the Kang family had ever given him, including their money, and the company but the man just couldn't.

The difference between Lu AnLing and Kang Jun's situations was that Lu AnLing had always been an outsider in the Lu family but as for the Kang's, sometimes it felt as if the whole family was held up by a single pillar by the name of Kang Jun. And so, if he left, everything would collapse.

The feeling this thought caused within the man was so suffocating, but Kang Jun bore with it.

Seeing an exasperated expression flash across Kang Jun's face, Lu AnLing's heart squeezed.

"You're tired, aren't you?" Lu AnLing asked with a low voice.

Those words could be meaningless to a passerby but for Lu AnLing she knew that Kang Jun would understand. The man had was always handsome but he had always looked a bit ragged. A bit depressed. A bit unsatisfied with the way he lived. And it broke her heart but they both knew that change was hard to create, mostly when it could affect the lives of so many...

Kang Jun looked at her sadly without saying a word. He just sighed.

"I'm sorry I brought you to my family meeting..." Lu AnLing said sadly. She truly didn't want the man to feel drained but it seemed like she had made more pressure befall him, which in turn had hurt her own heart.

Kang Jun shook his head. "I'm glad you brought me. I told you, I will always be there for you. And besides, I was happy to meet your family. Your step-father even wants to arrange a playdate with Mei Xue, Mingyu and Yuxi. I think it'd be good for them."

Lu AnLing froze for a moment. "Speaking of Yuxi... If I told you that that girl might be our child would you think I'm crazy?"

Hearing this, Kang Jun also froze for a moment. He was quiet until they stopped at the next light. Then when the car had stopped, Kang Jun turned to look at Lu AnLing in the eyes to confirm her feelings. Seeing that she was dead serious, Kang Jun felt his heart stiffen.

"What makes you say that?" Kang Jun asked.

"Well, Uncle Shen said that Yuxi was the child of a relative. I know for a fact that it isn't Xia's father's child, Auntie Yimo's child, Jiayi's, or Xinya's child. The only possibility is that it's my uncle Xing's child but that wouldn't be right either..." saying this, Lu AnLing touched her bottom lip as she thought about it.

"Why not?" Kang Jun asked curiously.

Lu AnLing: "Uncle Xing likes to travel the world. He once told me, Duyi and Xia that he never stays in a place more than a couple of months so he wouldn't have been in a place long enough to have a child and then bring them back to T City. Either way, he hates kids and I remember him tell us all about the birds and the bees and then he literally gave us condoms and told us that having kid's would ruin our fun in life, so we shouldn't think about having any!"

Hearing this, Kang Jun frowned.

Kang Jun: "What type of person does such things."

Lu AnLing pursed her lips at the man and said, "Says the man who almost told a six-year-old about sexual intercourse. In my book, you guys are birds of a feather!"

Hearing this, Kang Jun couldn't help but laugh.

"Okay, back to Yuxi. Why do you think she's our daughter, though?" After he asked this, Kang Jun's eyes turned dark and cloudy as he clenched his teeth. "Our daughter was said to be dead, you got proof, right?"

"Proof? Well, I got a photo of her grave..." Saying grave, Lu AnLing touched the ring on her right hand sadly.

Seeing her like this, Kang Jun wanted to comfort her but before he could, he needed to think logically.

"It's true that that isn't much proof... how are we going to figure out the truth though? We can't just go up to your step-father and ask to do a DNA test." Kang Jun said.

Lu AnLing shook her head. "There's no need to do any of that. My mother seems to know the answer. I'll just have to arrange a meeting with her."
