Chapter 266 The Next 24 Hours

"You two really know how to make an entrance." Lu AnLing said with a snicker.

Hearing this, Lu Xia said, "Of course!"

After saying this, Lu Xia leaned onto Kang Liu Ran's shoulder.

"I wanted Liu Ran to be here for the whole inheritance meeting thing, but he was busy with work... but you know what they say, better late than never." Lu Xia's voice held a hint of disappointment in it at the beginning but it almost immediately disappeared.

Though, hearing the disappointment,Kang Liu Ran turned to her and sighed, "I'm sorry."

Hearing this, Lu Xia smiled softly.

"I know... anyways... hello auntie, uncle, Shuya, Duyi, this is my husband." Lu Xia said shamelessly.

Hearing this, Xu Shen, Lu Shuya and Lu Duyi showed their shock but Lu Xiaoling did not react.

The four greeted Kang Liu Ran and he did the same to them. Lu Xia then looked around the room without moving her head, "Have you seen dad?"

Nodding, Lu Xiaoling said, "Jian is with your grandfather and grandmother."

Lu Xia nodded now also. "Hopefully he hurries up, I want to introduce Liu Ran to him, then I need to go work..."

Lu AnLing: "Night shift?"

Hearing this, Lu Xia sighed, "I wish... I fear I might be working for the next 24 hours plus."

There was a bit of humour in Lu Xia's voice but this was not funny at all. It was just the life she lived.

Sometimes Lu Xia felt shocked that she and Kang Liu Ran had any time for each other considering how busy the two were.

Thinking of this, Lu Xia frowned and then her eyes suddenly landed on the little bundle of joy in Kang Jun's embrace.

Lu Xia had seen the girl before but, from afar. Back in the meeting, Lu Xia had assumed it was Kang Mei Xue but now, looking at the girl up close, Lu Xia then turned to look at Kang Jun and asked,

"Anyways... who's the kid."

Knowing Kang Jun would not be able to fully answer, Xu Shen introduced Lu Yuxi to both Kang Liu Ran and Lu Xia.

Not many relatives cared about Lu Yuxi since she was apparently from a branch family, but Lu Xia smiled widely at the girl.

"She's so cute, I didn't know we had a relative this young. How old is she?" Lu Xia asked.

Meanwhile, Kang Liu Ran looked at Lu Yuxi who clung onto Kang Jun and frowned.

For a long time, Kang Liu Ran had noticed that either Kang Jun had a thing for kids or kids had a thing for Kang Jun. He wasn't sure which but looking at his brother with a child in his arms seemed to strangely suit him... And now that he thought about it, ever since Kang Mei Xue and Kang Mingyu were brought home, Kang Jun's iciness had been cut in half.

Xu Shen: "She's seven."

"Seven huh...?" Lu Xia said as her eyes wandered between Kang Jun, Lu AnLing and Lu Yuxi.

"When's her birthday?" Lu Xia asked awkwardly.

Asking this question, Lu Xia felt like she might hurt Lu AnLing, because what she was insinuating was impossible but for some reason, Lu Xia found Lu Yuxi's circumstances strange and this included how attached Lu Yuxi was to Kang Jun.

Hearing this, Xu Shen was about to answer, but instead, Lu Xiaoling answered.

Lu Xiaoling: "March 8th."

This date did not mean anything to Kang Jun nor Lu Xia, so they didn't react at all, but it meant everything to Lu AnLing. That was the date that she had given birth, after all.

"Mother..." Lu AnLing said shakily. She tried to be calm but the possibilities of Lu Yuxi being her other daughter was now clear in her mind and it shook Lu AnLing for the core.

Hearing Lu AnLing's voice, Lu Xiaoling turned to her daughter and the two just looked into the eyes of the other.

Lu AnLing wanted to say something to her mother, but instead, she looked at Lu Yuxi and then back to Lu Xiaoling.

Understanding that Lu AnLing was a bit conflicted about what she wanted to say, Lu Xiaoling took a deep breath and said, "I have something to tell you. Let's talk soon."

To this, Lu AnLing nodded.

Lu Xia, and Lu Shuya clearly caught onto the underlying topic of conversation and both of them turned to Lu Yuxi.

Kang Jun also caught a glimpse of something due to Lu Xia and Lu Shuya but Kang Jun was unsure what to think. Looking at Lu Yuxi who seemed as if she was meant to be in his arms, Kang Jun suddenly stiffened.

He didn't want to hope... hope only bred eternal misery... but if Lu Yuxi truly was his daughter, then the mystery surrounding Lu AnLing and Kang Jun would intensify. This would only mean that he would not be able to bring her to their side before he solved the mystery.

This caused a fire to burn within Kang Jun's stomach.

As the group of Kang's and Lu's gathered in the Lu family home, Grandma and Grandpa Lu were just finishing a meeting with Lu Jian.

"So you can't find your brother?" Grandma Lu asked with worry.

Shaking his head, Lu Jian said, "No... not yet. But I'm sure I'll find him, mom. You know Xing... he's reckless and strange but no matter what he always comes home."

As Lu Jian said this, Grandma Lu nodded in agreement but this didn't stop her from worrying about the man.

He was her son, after all.

Grandma Lu knew the man well. And she knew that he usually came back home every 6 or so years, but ever since he had come back home last time, Lu Xing had been nowhere to be found and Grandma Lu did not know why.

"I think it's best to give up looking for him... he always ends up showing up. Anyways—" Lu Jian said but before he could finish his sentence, Grandma Lu shut him up.

"No! Don't even think about giving up. Just find Xing..." Grandma Lu said, sounding slightly out of breath.

Not wanted to cause stress for the old woman, Lu Jian said, "Yes, mother."

Lu Jian wasn't sure why his mother was so bent on finding Lu Xing and neither did Grandpa Lu. The two had already gotten used to Lu Xing's ways and now, it was just normal.

However, despite Grandma Lu knowing this also, she also knew that she was sick and she did not know how much longer she would survive, so before she died, she wanted to see all her children, once more.
