Chapter 229 I’ve Been A Bitch

Both the Lu family and the Kang Family had had an adequate amount of time to speak. Lu AnLing was still confused about what was going on because the majority of the information she wanted to know was something Rong Lihua was unable to provide.

Looking at the door, which connected the living room to the room in which Kang Jun and Elder Kang were in, Lu AnLing hoped that Kang Jun was getting more information than she was.

And that he was...

All of a sudden, Lu AnLing began missing Kang Jun, so as Grandma Lu tried her best to reconnect with Rong Lihua, despite not sharing the same memories anymore, Lu AnLing went to the other room to see her husband.

She knocked on the door to announce her presence before she entered.

Seeing her, Kang Jun felt his heart warm. He beckoned her close and then he wrapped his arms around her. After hearing about Elder Kang's life, a fear ignited in Kang Jun; about a future where he could no longer be with Lu AnLing. Loving someone was scary. Sometimes you could love a person so much that the thought of losing them crippled you.

He didn't want to be crippled. He wanted to be strong enough to protect her for as long as it took.

Kang Jun held onto Lu AnLing as if his life depended on it.

As they embraced, Elder Kang watched the two happily but also jealously. He then peered into the other room where Grandma Lu clasped her hand over Rong Lihua's. Elder Kang longed to touch her but now, did he have any right...

He had to make everything right. Or at least partially right before he dared to go near her.

Now, he had some investigating to do... despite the crash happening 19 years ago, Elder Kang still believed he could find out what happened. He had been fairly well connected in the past and the people whom he knew were still alive and doing the same things as they had been in the past.

Thinking about it, so long he had been passive and quiet. Not wanting to disturb the quiet lives that everyone had built for themselves. He had made many mistakes in his life but it was his own lack of judgment when it came to the ones he called family and friends which might have hurt him and the people he loved the most.

If Feng Zhenyi really had anything to do with Lu Li Jing's 'death', Kang Zhi's death or even Anna's suicide, Elder Kang was going to make her pay one thousand fold.

The afternoon had passed well.

After a small while, Lu AnLing, Kang Jun and Elder Kang came back into the living room and the group had reunited.

They took their time to eat and drink a bit, with a bit of conversation here and there but they mostly avoided talking about or even mentioning Lu Li Jing.

For the moment, Kang Jun had thought it best that they take a pause to gather themselves and no one disagreed. The situation had given more than one person a headache.

After a while, Grandma Lu had to leave.

Kang Jun requested for Rong Xin to get the car. Knowing it was time to leave, Grandma Lu gave her warmest goodbyes to both Lu AnLing and Rong Lihua but for the first time, she politely said her goodbyes to Elder Kang.

Seeing this, the old man was shocked but he tried to fake that he wasn't by also saying his goodbyes to the woman.

When she was done. Kang Jun stood up to accompany Grandma Lu to the door, while Kang Jun did this, Grandma Lu couldn't help but look at him out of the corner of his eye and fidget awkwardly.

Kang Jun noticed this but he didn't say a word.

Seeing that he wasn't going to say anything, she said, "I'm sorry and thank you!"

Hearing this, Kang Jun stopped and turned to look at the woman.

"For what?" Kang Jun asked curiously.

Grandma Lu's face was softer than before but she also seemed tired and withered. Today's surprise had taken a lot out of her.

"I've been a bitch to you... and you didn't deserve it..."

There was a sudden pause before Grandma Lu spoke again.

"My sister likes you. And in my opinion, she isn't a good judge of character but..." Grandma Lu looked at Lu AnLing and Rong Lihua, "you've been taking care of them, and for that, I'm in your debt."

Kang Jun frowned but his face contained a softness to it. "I don't need that. Rong Lihua takes care of my house, I'm more indebted to her than she is to me and as for AnLing, she's my wife. I love her."

If anyone had heard how sincerely Kang Jun had said this, every woman in the room would have felt their hearts begin to race. Kang Jun was a man above all others. And Grandma Lu was beginning to believe this without a doubt.

Grandma Lu: "But if I may ask... I've heard that you're getting engaged soon?..."

Grandma Lu did not know how to phrase what she was saying. She wanted to threaten Kang Jun, and say that if he dared to hurt Lu AnLing he would be in a world of hurt, but looking at how the man looked at Lu AnLing and sounded when he spoke of her, Grandma Lu was not worried about Kang Jun hurting her.

Seeing the clear distress as she spoke, Kang Jun wasn't sure how he was going to explain his plan to the woman or if he should explain it to her at all. His feelings had been clearly expressed to her, whatever else was clearly not her business but still...

Kang Jun: "My parents don't know I'm married yet but don't worry. They will."

Hearing this, grandma Lu nodded. "If there is anything I can do to help, just call me."

Saying this, she remembered that Kang Jun did not have her phone number so she rummaged in her purse for a paper and pen. Once she got it she wrote down her number and handed it to him.

Feeling the paper between his fingers, Kang Jun nodded and said, "Yes. I will."

Grandma Lu smiled, "Thank you again and say goodbye to the kids for me."

Without saying another word, Kang Jun nodded.

Grandma Lu now began to walk out the door but before she left, Grandma Lu gave a cheeky smile and said, "You and AnLing should be working hard to give me some great-grandchildren."

Hearing this, Kang Jun almost laughed but instead, he smirked instead. "We do. Every night."

Grandma Lu laughed. She could not believe Kang Jun's shamelessness but for some reason, she loved it.

The old woman didn't doubt that someday soon, she would surely adore her new grandson-in-law.
