4 What Happened?

"Follow him, do not let him get away!" the head warden shouted.

"What's with all the commotion?" someone asked. From the edge of the crowd, an old man went outside of his carriage, he was protected by dozens of guards. The man wears the standard attire for bishops, he looks immaculate down to the very last detail.

At that moment, time seems to freeze for a second before everyone in the square knelt down in the direction of the man, order was restored.

"Helena, can you please tell me what happened?" the man asked.

"Yes my Lord, the heretics was released by the County Lord and he escaped with them down the sewers." the head warden answered reverently.

"That man is brave enough to release those branded as heretics by the Church? The last time we met, he looks so timid and cowardly, the very definition of a puppet ruler, he doesn't even know he's being spied on. Do tell what happened these few days."

"It happened yesterday, he seems usual, quiet and timid, as Lord had described. He then went into his office, it was noon, he stayed there for about six hours until his butler called him. It was there we noticed something, the manner of his speech changed. He who was always talking politely, now has a flamboyant flair in the way he talks. Not only that, today he asks all of his advisors to come to his office, after he excused them, our "walls" reported that he planned to fire off all of those advisors we picked up." she reported.

"I see, thank you for the report, you may now rest easy. As for the County Lord, let the Church handle this problem, for now try to maintain order for the civilians. You are now dismissed." the bishop said as he went back into his carriage.

After saluting the bishop, the head warden went to the execution platform to calm the public down.

"Call a Shepherd inside, now." A cold voice rang out of the bishop's carriage that was out of public view.

"Yes, Lord." One of the guards responded.

A clergyman with eyes devoid of feelings came in. Yes, he's a member of the Church's special force, The Shepherds.

"I want the heads of Uther Baskerville and those bunch of heretics, take them to me."

He nodded, and went out of the carriage to point at four guards randomly, signaling them to come with him. After he was out of view, the carriage continued it's travel until it finally arrived at a Chapel nearby.

"I am going to be at my room, praying to God. If anyone wants to meet me, inform me who they are, I will decide whether I'm going to meet them or not." the bishop said as he closed the door.

Inside his room, the bishop paced back and forth, his brows creased as he's mulling over something.

"Question. What happened within the span of about six hours that could change a man drastically? Conjecture. He is not the same man, an impostor maybe. But then, where is the County Lord? Killed? If so, where's the body." the bishop started talking to himself, trying to understand what happened. But in the end, the question remains. What happened?
