Chapter 49 - The Cursed Family

After two hours, Ming Yue woke Wan Yi Jun from his sleep, as per his request. Even though she has seen people working overtime, watching him returning to work without any proper rest was a bit shocking for her.

Especially since she was very much aware of his childhood and how he grew up as the young master of Wan family.

It was unbelievable for her to accept that Wan Yi Jun's career tremendously affected his conceited personality more than anything else.

Even though she could see some traces of the arrogant and aloof young master Wan in him, he has changed for good.

"Master, are you going to stay in this room from now on or should I prepare some other room, perhaps on the first floor?" Ming Yue asked as soon as she glanced at the simple bedroom where he slept. It was the same room that she used when she came to wisteria gardens a couple of days ago.

She couldn't help but wonder what happened to the eccentric germophobic millionaire boy in her memories.

"I think that's not necessary, miss Ming. The construction workers will come in the morning to finish the rest of the renovation. You can choose one room as you wish when the work is over." He reminded with a smile that she doesn't need to move a leg till the mansion gets renovated.

"Hmm, yes, master. I will take leave." She agreed without any protests. After all, she can't keep any spyware unless she knows about the rooms where Wan Yi Jun keeps his stuff.

"I'm not sure if I will be home tomorrow. Can you keep an eye on the workers? Last time they left in the middle of the work." Wan Yi Jun requested the girl who was about to leave his room.

"Hmm, I will check upon them, don't worry." She assured him with an enigmatic smile that hid her dark intentions regarding the destruction of the Wisteria gardens. She was sure that overseeing the mansion's renovation work was the best way to learn more about the secrets buried deep inside this compound.

"Ahhh...Miss Ming, please get ready. I will drop you at home." Wan Yi Jun offered when he suddenly remembered that he could give her a ride to the city.

"Yes, master."

When Wan Yi Jun came ready to leave, Ming Yue had already wrapped her work and waited for him next to the door, holding a carry bag.

Though he felt something amiss, he brushed it off and locked the mansion's door before moving towards his car.

"Master, where should I keep this?" Ming Yue extended the bag to the man, who looked at her with a pair of dubious eyes.

"Some dumplings and soup. I assume that there will be some facility to heat food in your office."

As soon as Wan Yi Jun heard her casual words, he couldn't help but look at her as if he saw some alien.

When was the last time someone packed food for him? In high school or middle school? Even he was not sure about it.

"Miss Ming, thank you...but...I...I don't normally eat dinner."

To be honest, Wan Yi Jun didn't even know how to react to her generous actions. He had already told her not to prepare any dinner, didn't he? Then what's with this huge bag full of food?

"It's not dinner, master. It's more like a snack. Don't worry, I have packed more. You can eat it with your colleagues." Ming Yue said as if it was no big deal.

"Hmm, thanks." Wan Yi Jun took the bag from her and carefully placed it in the back seat. "Please, get in."

As soon as Ming Yue got into the car, he started the engine and drove away from the majestic Wisteria gardens. Unlike their last journey to the city, this time, Wan Yi Jun didn't have any hesitations to drive with a woman, and surprisingly, Ming Yue even initiated a conversation with him, that too something he never expected from her.

She asked about his cars.

"Is this your favourite car? The one you always uses?" She inquired with childlike innocence.

"I don't have favourites, miss Ming, but yeah...This is one I'm using nowadays."

"Does that mean you have other cars?" Ming Yue probed more as if she was very much interested in automobiles.

"Hmm, I have a few cars. But it is kept somewhere else, with someone who could use it more than me."

"You gave cars to others?" Ming Yue's eyes widened, and trust me, she was literally shocked by his statement. She wasn't sure about Wan Yi Jun, but as far as she knew, almost every automobile lovers hesitate to hand over their precious 'babies' to someone else.

"Yes. What's the need of leaving them in the garage to rust?" Wan Yi Jun made a casual remark and glanced at Ming Yue's bewildered face. Watching various emotions change on her usual stone face and the awkward silence, it was evident that she was someone who loves cars. Even before he knew it, the corners of his mouth bloomed into a sweet smile.

"Do you know how to drive?" He inquired the girl who was still in puzzlement and she gave an answer that he was expecting too.

"No." Ming Yue lied without any hesitations. Thanks to her big brother who was an ardent car lover and racing car champion, she also developed a humungous love for automobiles. But that was something Wan Yi Jun doesn't need to know. "I rode a taxi only two years, ago."

"Do you want to learn?" Wan Yi Jun's question came without any delay and Ming Yue who got any idea of his personality by now could easily figure out what he was aiming at.

"Are you trying to send me to a driving school, now?" She jokingly asked. Since she was pretending like a poor orphan, it was obvious that her kind-hearted master wanted to play the guardian angel's role.

"Haha, no. If you are interested, I can teach you." He corrected while breaking into a peal of laughter.

"Says someone who doesn't have time to have food or to write an employment contract."

"Yes, but you are going to stay in the outskirts of the city from now on. Even to get some vegetables, you have to travel at least two kilometres, so it is better to take driving classes. Otherwise, it will be difficult for both of us?"

"I want to ask you earlier too. Why are you living in the outskirts?"

"It's my home."

" With your money and influence, you could have stayed somewhere within the city itself? Somewhere, a bit populated?"

"Are you bothered about the location of the mansion, or are you worried that you will be staying in a place somewhat haunted and spooky?"

"No. Not at all. I was just curious. Usually, people tend to live somewhere every necessity is easily available."

"Do you believe in ghost's or any supernatural beings, miss Ming?"

"I don't believe unless I see one."

"Good. because that it is a place where hundreds of people got murdered, especially in the vicinities of the wisteria gardens."

"Really?"

"It used to be an old capital city where the royal family and aristocrats lived for centuries. However, the last king shifted the state capital to the south and asked everyone to join him, not my ancestors."

"Why?"

"He was a bit jealous of the authority and power my ancestors had in the country. He feared that the Wan family might murder him and usurp the throne. So he used to send assassins to kill the entire Wan family?"

"And they never succeeded?"

"They tried their best, though."

"And the king? What happened to him?"

"My great, great grandfather made a revolution and killed the king."

"So is it the king's ghost roams around your mansion?"

"I'm not sure either. But according to the gossip/ beliefs in the old aristocratic families, the wisteria garden is a cursed place since the land got soaked by the blood of several soldiers and assassins."

"But we live in the twenty-first century, and does people still believe in such stories?"

"Of course, they do believe in these stories when they have clear evidence of the doom that was hovering around the Wan family."

"What evidence?"

"The mad king cursed that none of the male heirs of Wan clan will die a peaceful death."

"And you believe it too?"

"I never want to believe it, but no one in my family lived long enough to prove it wrong. As his curse, every male born in the Wan family got murdered or killed themselves, including my father."

"You were kind enough to give me a job after seeing me at the worst. However, If you think that I'm unqualified to work here, it's better that I leave before I become a burden." She made sure to put her best act to persuade Wan Yi Jun at any cost.. Not only the stay at Wisteria gardens would help her to keep an eye on the police investigation, but it would be the best cover for her mission.
