Chapter 192 - Side Story: Little Devil

Some people called him Devil. Some called him Demon. He didn't remember how he was created nor how long had he lived. He only knew he was ordered to watch for humans, manipulate their mind to let them commit sins. He was pretty much an expert in that case. He could even stand for himself, not allowing other devils to pick on him or order him around because of his capability in doing his job.

Yeah, he could proudly say that he was one of those highest ranking devils that commanded several thousands of lower rank devils.

But, instead of staying put in his throne, he always went from one place to other places. If he felt like it, he would fool some humans, but most of the time, he would just be there as a spectator.

He had been to many places and he had fooled many humans. His mischievous manner would even make him put some bad things into children's mind. Since he couldn't touch babies, for they were the purest things in world, he would wait until they had grown up a bit. There's no exact age when he could start affecting those poor little boys or girls, but once they started to think about bad things, it was the cue for him to start working.

How could children think about bad things? Well, ask their parents what they had been showing or teaching the children.

Since no ordinary people could see him, even if they performed exorcist on him, it didn't affect him.

But, one day when he passed by a village, he was stopped by a cry of a baby. His mischievous mind kicked in and he sauntered the source of the cry with a wicked plan inside his mind.

In that house, he saw a baby girl was being cradled by a woman, probably her mother. He approached the baby and saw a pair of big and beautiful eyes was looking at him intently.

It was strange, he thought. Normally even baby couldn't see him. Looking at her size, he assumed that she would be around six to eight weeks old. How could she see him?

He tried to move around, but her eyes followed him around. Yes, she had stopped crying, but she didn't laugh either. Normally babies would laugh if they saw something or someone played with them. Even just making a small movement would make them laugh.

But, this baby was so strange that she would just look at him as if she was watching a pathetic clown trying to incite laughter on children.

"Kid, don't challenge me." He said to the baby girl as he put his fingers on her forehead, trying to see what's inside her head.

But to his surprise, she moved and slapped his hands away. She made it as if she only rubbed her own face, but he, as the victim, knew better.

No, there was no baby could be this strong. He must be imagining things. With that thought in mind, he tried to do it again.

But, again his hand was slapped by her.

At that moment, he knew that he wasn't imagining things. Moreover, the look in her eyes was as if giving him a warning not to do that again.

How odd was this baby?

He didn't realize he had been standing there with dumbfounded expression on his face for a pretty long time. Hell, he didn't even realize how stupid he looked like. If only he could see himself in the mirror…

After that day, he practically watched her almost all the time. Sometimes he would go to other places and returned after a week or a month. But he never let her out of his eyes for more than that.

He didn't try to approach her, just silently watched her from afar. However, there were times their eyes would meet, but she would not say anything to him.

The first time she saw him, her friends asked her what was wrong since she stopped playing. She said that she saw a man, sitting under the tree, but her friends said that they didn't see anyone.

Of course, even the most capable one with sixth sense wouldn't be able to see him, let alone those ordinary children. All except her.

It was a good thing that she said she saw it wrongly and never mentioned about it again. Therefore, no one labeled her as a weirdo. Even if she saw ghosts, she wouldn't say anything and wouldn't even flinch in fear. Instead, she acted as if she didn't see them.

What a clever child!

All humans who could see ghosts meant that they had the same frequency with the ghosts. The ghosts would know which humans could see them as well, and would be attracted to the humans.

Same case applied for her, too. However, no matter what they did, she would never show them that she could see them. That's why some of the ghosts were being bold and tried to touch her or even hurt her.

The first time he saw their attempts to hurt the girl, he laughed. Even his hand could be easily slapped by her, what about theirs? He really couldn't wait to see it.

Yet, when he saw it, he couldn't laugh at all.

When a ghost tried to choke her, she pinched the hands that were around her neck until it snapped. And she did that calmly as if she was just massaging her own throat.

Yes, snapped! How strong was she to be able to snap the hands of an entity not belong to her world? She was ridiculously strange and strong.

At the age of 12, she approached him for the first time.

She was waiting for her friends to come and play with her. But, because she came much early than before, she needed to wait for a bit longer till her friends came.

However, he was sure it was intentional. She intentionally came early to approach him. She planned it well, he should say.

"Hello, Mister." She greeted him with a thin smile on her face as she stood in front of him.

The Devil arched his thick eyebrows, but he didn't reply her greetings.

"You've been watching over me for years. What do you want from me, Mister?"

It was a miracle for a girl at her age could ask that kind of question with a calm façade. Her mind was obviously working differently with the other kids.

"You're imagining things." I said to her.

The smile on her face grew wider. "What kind of thing are you, Mister? You're not a ghost, so what are you? Your black wings are so big, I'm a bit curious whether those are heavy or not. Also, don't you feel it troublesome to walk among the trees? You live in the forest, right?"

She could see his wings? At her words, he was stunned again. He rarely used his wings since he preferred to walk on foot. His wings were his identity as a member of the highest class of devil. Therefore, other than in his dimension, his wings would be invisible even though he still could use it.

She was practically the first human who could see his wings. What was she, actually?

"Mister? Are you mute?"

The corner of his lips twitched when she asked him that innocently. You are mute, your whole family is mute!

"Kiddo, I'm going to swallow you if you keep picking a fight with me." He threatened the girl with menacing look on his face.

"Mister, don't twist your face like that. It doesn't look good on you." Out of nowhere, she extended her hand and rubbed his frown away.

Again, he was dumbfounded with how brave this kid was.

"There, you are the most handsome person I've ever seen, so don't twist your face like that." This time, she smiled toothily until her round eyes forming a beautiful pair of crescent moon.

At this moment, the Devil, who didn't know the concept of beautiful things and memory, felt like he saw the most beautiful thing in the world. He didn't know he had heart until it started beating with a loud thump, almost hurting his chest.

He stood up abruptly, startling the little girl to the point he almost felt guilty, and ran into the woods. His mind felt blank as he tried to understand this new feeling.

No, no, he was afraid of this new feeling. What had happened to him? What kind of charm did she put on him? What a strong charm!

Little Devil! He thought grumpily.

He kept running, but the palpitated feeling inside his chest didn't disappear. With a loud howl, he jumped and spread his wings. Each flap of his wings brought him further away from the Little Devil. He thought that his situation would revert back to normal once he was far away from her. But, as long as the girl's face popped in his mind, the thumping would start again.

So, he flew for several days until he realized he had been too far from her. Without thinking much, he changed course and flew back to where she lived. In his heart and mind, he promised that he would watch her from further away and not let her see him just in case something like that happened again.

Hundred years later, he would realize what the girl was doing to him and it called 'flirting'. But, seriously, a twelve years old girl flirted with an a.d.u.l.t? Ah, she must have not known that was called 'flirting' either.
