Chapter 180 - Don't You Think It's Strange?

(Tom's PoV)

"Is she exhausted after using her power like that?" I asked Siji who had just finished examining Jane.

Siji frowned and shook his head. "I don't think so. Her flow of energy and spiritual power are still fine. That much of energy and spiritual power are nothing for her."

"Then, why?" Sanji asked.

"I don't know. It's like she has just experienced something that shook her psychologically." Siji answered. "What happened there?" He looked at me.

Shaking her psychologically? I squinted my eyes as I tried to remember what could be the trigger.

Was it that time? When she peered into the old man's mind? What did she see, actually?

"Actually, I don't really know, but there was one time where she peeked into the man's mind to see why the old man said that her father was cruel. But, after that she was fine so I thought it was nothing. But, seeing her now, I start to doubt it. What happened actually?"

Hearing my explanation, both Siji and Sanji couldn't say anything. This matter, we could only wait for her to explain it for us. It was only if she was willing to share with us.

"Let's set our camps here. With her losing her consciousness like that, I don't think we can continue with our journey. Let's take a rest and continue when she awakes later." Sanji suggested.

"Good idea." I nodded.

"I'll set up her tent first so that you can take her inside." Sanji stood up and found a clearing before he set up a tent for Jane.

He looked so skillful, as if he had done it often. In no time, Jane's tent had stood on the ground. Sanji had even laid down a small and thin mattress on the ground inside, complete with a set of pillow and blanket for her. Nice job, though.

After setting her down in her own tent, I came out and came face to face with Sanji. "I'll look around and gather some fire woods." I said to him.

Sanji nodded before he set up another tent nearby. I left him and went deeper into the forest. Sometimes I would stop and took some fire woods into my hands before I continued walking. After I thought I had walked far enough from the camp site, I stopped.

"Siji." I called out. Siji appeared before me. He must have noticed my solemn expression since he didn't say anything like usual.

"Do you know anything about Jane's father? You better tell me." I looked at him.

"General, it's better for you to ask Milady directly. I'm afraid it's not my place to talk about her father." He answered politely.

But, that was not the answer I needed to hear. Even so, I knew that he was right, that I should ask her directly. The only concern was… would she tell me about her father?

She claimed that her father was not evil, but seeing her reaction right now, somehow I felt something was off from the story. It was just a pity that I couldn't pry into someone's head like what she did.

Or, could I?

"Tell me, can I do like what she did? I mean, pry into someone's memory. She even can find the mastermind by searching the connection between the master and the shadow from the shadow mind. Did you teach her that?" I asked him curiously.

"I don't think so, General. That ability is solely for Master of White Army. Even I was surprised when I knew she could do it. And no, I didn't teach her finding the master through the connection. She knew it since the beginning. That was the way she used to find Amanda's father back then." Siji answered calmly.

Amanda's father? "Which Amanda?"

"Jane's ex-boyfriend's wife."

Ah, I got it. But, what did it have to do with Jane? It seemed like Siji needed tell me a long story.

"Tell me about it." I told him as I started to collect some fire woods again. This time, Siji was strolling with me while telling me a story about how Amanda kidnapped Jane, killed Rizal, and Jane retaliated back.

It was such an amazing yet sad story. Janes full power was triggered by Rizal's death, I couldn't imagine the trauma she experienced at that time. No wonder she was so different after that. I remembered I had not had the chance to ask how she was doing before I was sent back to my body.

I pitied Rizal for he was born into a ruthless family who sold him to the darkness so that they could gain some worldly benefits. However, in the end, instead of getting the benefits they were waiting for, they lost a good child and two of their children were crippled. They also lost the connection they had with the person who promised them all the wealth. That was some messed up family, I should say.

But, for Jane to look for Amanda's father, I could imagine what Jane was thinking at that time. She must have felt that she must uproot the problem to avoid any future disturbance.

Also, I think I could guess the reason why they didn't invite Jane on Rizal's wedding; other than Rizal didn't want her to know, obviously. They had already sensed that something was different from Jane from the last time she visited them. It was some kind of premonition since they adopted evil way and Jane was prepared to fight evil.

Yeah, it must be something like that.

Let's get back to the reason I was hearing this story. From the way Siji told the story, it seemed like Jane already knew the way to do those things.

"But, it's impossible. Her ability was sealed by her father, that's true. But she regained her ability only after she met me. She learned to interact with ghost because of my guidance and one of the ghosts nearby. In other words, she didn't learn about that skill. She has no chance to learn about it, how would she know how to do it? Don't you think it's strange?"

Instead of agreeing with me, Siji only smiled. But somehow I felt his smile hid some meaning in it. It was as if he knew something, but he didn't want to tell about it. Instead, he wanted me to guess it.
