Chapter 53

Gu Nantian was different. He could spend all he liked as all the money was his.

Ji Liunian sat at the back looking at Gu Nantian kissing Xu Zhiyin’s forehead. He gritted his teeth. Damn!

Why was he feeling sad?

He had Chuxia but when he saw Xu Zhiyin being affectionate with another person, why was he angry?

At this thought, Ji Liunian could no longer stay calm. He threw the catalog on the seat and stood up. He gave up on the auction and walked out of the auction hall.

He understood that he was acting rashly because of Xu Zhiyin.

However, it was not worth it!

He didn’t have to do such things because of her, did he?

When Ji Liunian walked out, Chuxia followed suit. “Liunian, wait for me.”

When Xu Zhiyin heard her voice, she turned around and her gaze met Chuxia’s gaze. Chuxia’s facial expression was cold, just like ice.

She understood Ji Liunian better than anyone else. Hence, she knew what Ji Liunian did just now was because of Xu Zhiyin.

However, Ji Liunian was hers and she would not allow anyone to snatch him away! More so Xu Zhiyin!

Chuxia left very quickly.

After the auction, Xu Zhiyin and Gu Nantian walked out of the hall. Qiao was holding the vase which had been wrapped up and trailed behind them.

Xu Zhiyin told Gu Nantian, “I’ll give you back the money when I’m home.”

Although she had no money, the money used to buy a present for Mr. Ji could be claimed from her mother.

Gu Nantian looked at Xu Zhiyin. Why was she still so calculative?

“Didn’t you say you have no money?”

“No worries. My mother will reimburse this money used to buy Uncle Ji’s present. Our family and the Ji family are quite close. My mother will be willing to pay for this.” The minute Xu Zhiyin finished talking, Gu Nantian grabbed her hand. She stopped and looked at him calmly. “Why?”

“You don’t have to pay me back.”

“If this if for me, it’s different but this is for Uncle Ji, how can I let you pay?”

She and Gu Nantian were not a real couple.

“But I…” Gu Nantian wanted to say whatever is his is hers too but Xu Zhiyin wouldn’t accept. His eyes were dull, “You treat me as an outsider, right?”

“I didn’t mean that.”

She just didn’t want to lose her pride because of this money and be unable to raise her head in front of Gu Nantian in future.

Gu Nantian replied, “You mean just that.”

“Let’s not discuss about this.” When she sensed his unhappiness, Xu Zhiyin didn’t want to add fuel to the flame. She didn’t want to provoke him and lead to an incident like last night.

***

The second night, Xu Zhiyin and her parents went to Ji Residence.

It was Mr. Ji’s birthday celebration so there were many noted personages at the house. It was more ostentatious and extravagant than Gu Qinghai’s birthday dinner.

“Zhiyin, how have you been recently?” Madam Ji was as warm as usual.

Xu Zhiyin nodded. “I’m fine, thank you Auny.”

She had finally changed how she addressed Madam Ji.

When Madam Xu heard this, she was displeased. She pinched her daughter and said, “How did you address your mother-in-law?”

Xu Zhiyin was in pain. She must be her adopted child or her mother would not be so cruel.

After that, Xu Zhiyin looked at Madam Ji. She too was taken aback by how she was addressed by Xu Zhiyin. Xu Zhiyin explained, “I’ve divorced Liunian for quite some time now and it’s time I change how I address you or others will misunderstand.”

“What will others misunderstand? Do you want to drive me up the wall?” Madam Xu saw that Xu Zhiyin had no intention to change and quickly mediated, “Don’t take what Zhiyin said to heart.”

Madam Ji replied, “It’s not Zhiyin’s fault. It’s Liunian’s fault. Where is Liunian? Why isn’t he out yet?”

Xu Zhiyin didn’t have the intention to pay attention to Ji Liunian. So, while the elderlies were chatting, she went out for some fresh air.

When she came to the entrance, she met Ji Liunian who had just come down from upstairs. Ji Liunian saw her too. He smiled and recalled how she and Gu Nantian enjoyed the limelight yesterday. He teased, “Why didn’t Gu Nantian accompany you here today?”

Xu Zhiyin had no mood to joke with him. Her expression was serious. “He’s not close to the Ji family. It’s only normal that he’s not here.”

What she said sounded like she had taken Gu Nantian as her family and knew him well.

Ji Liunian walked to Xu Zhiyin and while staring at her, the jealousy in him welled up again just like yesterday. “Are you afraid that your parents will know? Zhiyin, don’t you think you’re too much? On one hand, you and Gu Nantian appear together on various occasions, putting me in a difficult position and on the other hand, you appear in my house with that pretentious pitiful look, encouraging my parents to force us to remarry.”

“I didn’t.”

What did he mean putting him in a difficult position?

What did her relationship with Gu Nantian have to do with him?

What did he mean she had the pretentious pitiful look forcing him to remarry? She had never considered their remarriage seriously since their divorce.

Xu Zhiyin clarified, “Today is Father’s birthday. Do you think, I, a junior, can be absent? I just came to wish him happy birthday.”

If it weren’t for this, she wouldn’t have appeared at Ji Residence.

Ji Liunian said on purpose, “Look, we have divorced but you still call him Father. You dare say you are not thinking of remarrying me?”

Xu Zhiyin widened her big eyes. She had not expected Ji Liunian to purposefully find loopholes in her words. Now that he was with Chuxia, had he become a coercing person as well?

She stated, “Ji Liunian, you think too much. I don’t have any intention of remarrying you!”

She was too used to addressing his parents “father and mother” and had forgotten to change.

Ji Liunian pointed at his parents with his eyes. “They wish we can remarry. My mother told me several times, asking me to coax you! Isn’t this what you wanted?”

“Of course not! If you still doubt me, I’ll go and tell them clearly now. I, Xu Zhiyin, am not as cheap as still wanting to remarry you…” Xu Zhiyin said and was ready to walk toward the elderlies.

Although this occasion was not suitable to talk about this subject, she hated Ji Liunian for accusing her.

To prove her innocence, she would have to go ahead regardless of anything!

Ji Liunian saw that she really wanted to go to their parents to explain and pulled her back immediately, “Zhiyin.”

XU Zhiyin struggled slightly and found that he was holding on to her very tightly. To avoid others from noticing, she didn’t exert her strength but looked at Ji Liunian, feeling perplexed. “Why did you pull me back? It’d be better for you, for me and for Chuxia if I were to explain clearly, wouldn’t it? You can then be with her forever and nobody would force us to remarry!”

“I was joking with you.” When Ji Liunian saw her blank look, he tugged her out of the entrance. “Let’s go to a quiet place to talk.”
