160 The Ploy

Name:My Perfect Lady Author:Saumya_Singh
Chairman Simon Hunter was working Rebecca's case with an eccentricity that surpassed all his whims. The fire in the old man had risen, and he was ready to squish his nemesis like a bug. Kang Sheng would be trampled over till he was sorry for existing! Simon had his ploy ready, he wanted eye for an eye, and both the eyes that he finally gained were going to be Kang Sheng's!

Senior Hunter was hurriedly making calls to his lawyer, putting all legal action into order as he smoked a cigar. Declaring Rebecca Storm as the new owner wasn't a problem, she was the legal heir anyway. There was no contention to the title too, for Carver was unmarried and childless. All she would have to do was produce documents. The major part of the problem now would be her survival. The board of directors were most likely all corrupt. And one of Garret's sources had informed him that a man by the name of Shi Xing was on the board. He was in all probability going to be elected the next Chairperson after Carver, and he was Kang Sheng's close comrade, a distant relative of some sort. The Chairman wasn't interested in finding out which sort.

The next board meeting was going to be this Saturday.

That gave the Chairman three days to settle everything and publicly declare Rebecca's return.

He was also closely monitoring the boy, Benji. So far, the child had had no problems at school. And it seemed like Jimmy had tightened the security around him to the extent that Simon himself could discover no loopholes.

Another interesting turn of events had taken place in his house. Park, Simon had noticed was having attacks of insomnia again. He used to have bouts where he spent sleepless nights long ago. Now that the symptoms had returned to the man, Simon had felt the need to find out what Park was working on.

It had surprised him that he was onto Miya again. Simon Hunter had no shame in tapping into Park's collected evidence again, so he knew exactly how much Park had found out by now. So far, it seemed he had connected Miya to his non-wife, but Simon assumed Park was investigating on his hunch alone.

He seemed to have no solid detail on the link between Miya and Eshni.

That gave the Chairman more time to work Eshni's angle before Jim knew or got involved.

Just as Senior Hunter had got off a phone call, someone knocked at his door. He recognized the footsteps, so he fixed his already blank face and called out, "Come in."

Miya greeted the old man, and informed him that she was going out, and would return back after picking up Ben. These days, Simon had made it a compulsion for her to personally inform him every time she left the house.

He nodded, then said, "I'm sending a guard along."

The girl was quick to refuse, "Oh, no! I already talked to Jimmy, he said it's fine till I come back on time."

Miya instinctively raised up her hands at that.

"Of course not! I only meant he trusts me! So you don't worry, I'll be fine!"

"I trust you too. That's why I'm saying bring a guard along. I don't want you killing any of Sheng's men in case he moves, alright?"

"I – Why would I kill anyone?! You're –"

"Yes, yes. Go. I don't have time to argue with you. I'll send a guard. He'll keep seven meters away."

Miya would have retorted, but the Chairman simply dismissed her by paying her no more heed. Sulking, she left the room.

The guard was going to be trouble.

She wanted to visit Avante Hospital, have her update on Tao. And she couldn't have the Chairman or Jim knowing, for she was sure none of them knew why she kept the man alive except attribute the fact to her need for vengeance.

While on the way, Miya calculated over what to do. She needed to ditch the guard, whoever he would be.

Fortune rested with her just then, and she saw the familiar face of Chenric as he stood exactly seven meters away from her.

Meanwhile, Park's wits had left him.

He sat before the screen, shell-shocked, staring at the picture of the duo as if he had seen a ghost. Now that his gut had proven its truth, the butler couldn't move.

What was this strange twist of fate?

Why was Miya with Eshni Hunter in the picture?

And with a snake, at that…

Park considered the possibility of photoshop, then requested to contact the reporter who had worked the article and news ten years ago. Then with a heavy heart, he lay back in his seat, wondering what in the world was going on.

Could the lady boss have found Miya through the Chairman himself? Since he himself had met the girl before and liked her…

Had he made his wife meet Miya too?

2007… that was part of those ten years when Miya had been in disappearance. Park looked at her young face in the picture, almost afraid of the thrill he read in it. She looked around fifteen or 16 years of age. Eshni Hunter had left them way back in 2003, never returning even when her own girl had died, pining for her.

Why then?

Why was she with Miya?

A cold chill ran down the butler's spine as he thought of Jimmy. If the young master were to know… what would his reaction be?

It had taken him a long, long time to get over what had happened to his sister. What would Jim feel, if he knew that the girl he loved was involved with the woman he hated to the core?

Park sprang into action again, fired up at the thought as he picked up the phone and made another call, setting up a meeting in the evening. He went through the report once more, finding out that the incident of the villagers being poisoned wasn't in village Lang, but at another village on the outskirts that had the same newspaper circulated there as well.

Park went through another possibility. These ten years… could it be that Miya had remained somewhere near Lang itself? But then, how come nobody ever found out? It seemed impossible.

The old man pinched the space between his brows.

Why Miya? Why would she not tell Jimmy the truth herself?

Nevertheless, the man took in another gulp of his sixth mug of black coffee for the night. He couldn't sleep either way, and he needed to find out the entire truth before news got to Jim about his mother and wife.

Park couldn't let the boy go through the same trauma, again.

Not this time. Not under his own watch.

Not if he could help it.
