Chapter 230 - Since When

Slowly shifting her intense blank gaze away from the endless sky, Eva glanced at Zeus turning her neck around. From his facial expression, he seemed extremely irked, gritting his jowls in anger while scrunching his brow ridge.

She could easily assess his fuming rage and in a soothing pitch, she tried to console him first. "Zeus...please calm down..."

"Calm down?" Before she could finish his words, he grumbled out intensely, narrowing his dark gaze at her. "How the heck I can calm myself after knowing that you...you are trying to contact someone you once had a blind date with! Who is that punk? I bet he must be a human!"

Hearing out aloud his grumpy whining, Eva tossed a small smirk while looking deep into his spacious eyes. From his speech, it was evident that he was going crazy out of lingering emotions of jealousy that were seizing his core.

"You have nothing to worry about him...because...he had already rejected me on our first date. It was extremely awkward between us." Tenderly holding one of his palms, she gently murmured.

"What!?" Squinting his eyeballs fiercely, he gritted his jowl in anger sounding quite vexed. "How dare that trashy punk rejected a goddess like you? How dare a nasty human look down on my precious Eva? Tell me...Just tell me who the heck he is and I am gonna tear his tongue apart!" He fussed at her.

Even though Zeus seemed crazily infuriated and enthralled by his possessiveness, but the sincere care and pure love were still evident in his big, dark eyes. Smiling softly at his childish grumbling, Eva gently placed her arm over his warm face and caressed him, "do you know why did he reject me?"

"Huh?"

"Because I had still saved our first selfie as my screen wallpaper even after walking away from you." Her eyes seemed a bit sad with a glum feeling enunciated on her words.

Blinking his long, black eyelashes in wonder, he continued peering at her intensely without uttering a single query.

"He seemed like a nice colleague of Clara and that's why she asked me to make a new start of life by overcoming my deep grief as a result of our brief separation. But, you know, he could easily understand that my heart only belonged to you even though I was declining to accept the truth by myself. He made me realize that no matter where I go and whoever I chose...I can never find my happiness if it isn't you, Zeus. And that's why I am thankful to such a nice man like him who still resides in this bitter world..." Taking a deep huff of breath, her mild voice rustled with the whirling sound of the summer breeze.

Apprehending her honest response while staring at her in awe, Zeus kept his anticipated silence momentarily without objecting any further. As soon as she concluded, he slowly gripped her arm which was placed over his cheek, and queried fondly, "so...it means...you tried to...contact him for...Clara?"

"Yes." She nodded taking a gloomy sigh out. "He was the last clue left where I could seek a trace about her but...I failed again, Zeus..." Her voice grew heavier as she slowly departed her arms away from his face looking back at the sky with a void of emptiness in her gaze. "Apart from us, she didn't have a family either... Zeus, I am really getting a bad feeling. Something...I bet something is wrong here and we are unable to evaluate it! Should we go and seek help from the cops? I...I really don't know what to do anymore at this state...I am badly stuck... Zeus, I am scared of losing my only friend in this life..." She sounded quite impatient.

For a moment, he held his absolute silence by glancing deep into her dreary eyes. Wrapping his arm around her soft shoulder, he tried to solace her in this difficult moment, murmuring to her, "if she wouldn't have been a wolf, then we could have easily asked help from the cops... But right now, if we choose that option and somehow...it discloses her real identity...do you think she would be able to survive in this brutal human world?"

She sighed again seeming very dismal from her narrowed gaze fixed up at the infinite horizon.

"Eva...I can understand your concerns for her," caressing her tender arms, he tried to ease her distress a bit through his consoling words. "Think about it, she had to hide her own identity from the person she cherished with her whole heart...just because of a fear of losing you. Now...when the secret has been revealed...she might need some alone time to hold herself strong before facing you."

"But..."

"Don't worry, I have already sent my trustworthy pack members to look out for her in every possible place a wolf can be... And I believe, we will be able to find her sooner enough, Eva." He concluded his declaration boldly while trying to cheer her up in that hard time by staying right next to her.

Fidgeting anxiously in his arms, she lowered her eyes down for a while, swirling his pupils impatiently. "Zeus...you have already done so much for me... Your pack must have been so disappointed with you especially because of me. Besides, I have even spoken to your mother imprudently and...I doubt...it would further cause troubles in your constraints as the alpha." Her crooked voice shook a little as she was mumbling with a guilt-stricken face.

Watching her getting more drained out of worries, he cuddled her tighter in his broad arms smiling gently. Placing a soft peck on her forehead, he reassured her in a soothing gesture, "right now, you are the most important constraint of my life. Nothing matters to me before your happiness and well-being. As long as you are by my side, I can fight against the whole world."

His gentle whisper brought a pleasant grin to her glum face as she raised her chin to glance at him tenderly. "Do you think...Clara will come back to me safely soon?"

"Of course! I believe it and I will make sure to find her safe and sound...Okay?"

"O...Okay." She nodded holding a sad teary smile and leaning her head on his broad shoulder.

As he was stroking her soft hairs with an amicable look on his face, suddenly, in the blink of a second, uncertain grimness prevailed all over his expression. While glancing up at the sky, a dubious, skeptical look appeared in his dark eyes seeming as if he was hit with a harsh, stinging thought deep inside his mind! The smile on his face had completely vanished into darkness!

"It...It hasn't been long enough since I came to know about Uncle Stevan's demise... I bet...no one in our pack ever sought to know about him.

Then...

How did mom know about his death? Since when did she know all these? And most importantly, why didn't...she ever disclose it to me?" The striking doubtful thought pulsed his mind anxiously.
