Chapter 36 - I Believe You

At that moment, Lin Yi finally believed that the car chasing after them meant trouble.

Why would anyone choose to do construction work at such a time? Lin Yi was an intelligent woman, so she instantly understood what was going on.

However, she didn't seem to be flustered at all. Not many people would be able to stay calm in a situation like this.

She was a normal person, so naturally, she should have been scared. However, the reason as to why she could stay calm today was because she had Li Tian by her side.

Because Li Tian was still able to joke around in a situation like this, it was obvious that he had everything under control. Li Tian would never be intimidated by another jerk, otherwise, it would mean that he lost.

And he would never lose to anyone.

If Li Tian knew about how Lin Yi felt, he would've laughed out loud. I'm calm because I have it under control, while you're just pretending to be calm.

Li Tian turned the steering wheel quickly and managed to turn the car at an almost 90-degree angle. Upon seeing the small road ahead, he immediately hit the accelerator and sped away.

"You...really want to go back using this road? This route is much further, and we'd still have to go through the suburbs."

Lin Yi couldn't help but ask.

"Of course we have to go through the suburbs, otherwise, why would I turn into this road? Honey, don't worry. I'm here, and I promise everything will be fine."

I'm here, and I promise everything will be fine.

This single sentence immediately calmed Lin Yi, who was previously tense.

She had only heard her mother say comforting words like this when she was younger. Lin Yi had no status in the Lin family, so she attended a private high school instead of an elite school.

Following this, her family only sent her to Jiangdu University to match their 'status'. Additionally, it would also appear better for her marriage if she were to graduate from a reputable university.

At that time, she had no friends and was always lonely. Only her mom was there to care for her.

It was her first time hearing words like this from a man. Although she didn't really like him, he was still her husband.

Lin Yi had always wanted to find a shoulder she could lean on, someone who was capable. She once thought that this person would be Chen Jia Jun, but reality did not turn out as she imagined.

All of a sudden, she was married to someone whom she had never met before, someone who didn't even seem like he was capable of doing anything.

However, because of this one sentence, Lin Yi decided to 're-evaluate' the man beside her.

She realized that she didn't want to be with Li Tian just because of the pressure from her family, but also, she wanted to try something new, perhaps something called love?

"Okay then, I'll just close my eyes. Make sure you bring me home safely."

Lin Yi let out a faint smile, which shocked Li Tian who was sitting right beside her.

Lin Yi seemed so different.

"Okay, leave it to me!"

Li Tian immediately sped away.

After about ten minutes, Li Tian stopped the car when they arrived at the suburbs.

Li Tian glanced at Lin Yi who still had her eyes tightly shut. It was extremely obvious that she really wanted to have a peek at what was going on.

"Honey, wait for me here. Just give me a minute, I'll be right back."

Li Tian bent over and spoke into Lin Yi's ear. Lin Yi felt her heart skip a beat upon feeling Li Tian's breath.

At that moment, she didn't even think about the possibility of Li Tian abandoning her and instead, she firmly said, "Okay, I'll wait for you."

The only sounds she could hear afterwards were the sounds of the car door opening and then closing.

Lin Yi began to count seconds in her head. Since Li Tian said to give him a minute, she began counting to sixty.

"57, 58..."

As Lin Yi was counting, the car door abruptly flung open. Lin Yi immediately opened her eyes.

"I told you I'd be back in a minute."

Li Tian sat in the driver's seat and joked.

"Hmph, 62 seconds. You're late."

"That's impossible. It should be 58 seconds unless you started counting from when I opened the door instead of when I shut the door."

"So what? You're late anyway."

...

Li Tian swiftly parked the car in the garage of the villa. This was his first time seeing this side of Lin Yi, he couldn't believe that she had actually acted playfully in front of him.

Of course, all explanations would be in vain in front of a pretty girl like Lin Yi. In the end, Li Tian could only admit that he was late.

However, what surprised Li Tian more was the fact that Lin Yi didn't even question what he had gone down to do. Instead, she treated it as if nothing had happened.

Li Tian began to see Lin Yi in a different light as well. Sometimes, curiosity might kill the cat, but Lin Yi held herself back from asking questions.

"Miss, Sir, welcome back."

Wang Ma knew that they would return home late, so she prepared supper for them.

"Yeah. Wang Ma, did you cook any chicken drumsticks or beef? I'm famished. I'm not even near full from the food at the banquet. I knew it, home-cooked food is always the best."

Li Tian said as soon as he entered the house. Wang Ma was over the moon upon hearing what he said, and immediately answered, "Of course!"

Li Tian always enjoyed Chinese food, but he wasn't particularly fond of Western cuisine.

To him, the majority of Chinese dishes were served hot, and hence, they were 'cleaner' as most bacteria couldn't survive high temperatures. On the contrary, a lot of Western dishes were uncooked.

Vegetable salads, fruit salads, as well as steaks and eggs. Even if you were to order a well-done steak at a Western restaurant, there would still be traces of blood in the meat.

Not only did Li Tian not like the fact that rare meat could contain lots of bacteria, but his body also rejected rare meat. He usually felt like vomiting if he ate rare meat. Perhaps it was due to what he had gone through previously.

Lin Yi watched as Li Tian gobbled up the food. She didn't want to eat meat, as she believed that eating meat at night would make her gain weight, and gaining weight was a common enemy amongst many girls!

After eating, Li Tian sat on the sofa to watch some TV, whilst Lin Yi grabbed a magazine to read.

It wasn't healthy to sleep right after finishing a meal, so they decided to wait for a bit.

"The people who were chasing after us today, who were they?"

Lin Yi casually asked, without even lifting her head to look at Li Tian.

"I thought you would ask me, but would you believe me if I told you?"

Li Tian put down his cup of tea and threw a question back at Lin Yi.

Would he believe it if he was in her shoes?

Upon hearing Li Tian's question, Lin Yi asked herself.

A few seconds later, she softly said, " I believe you."
