Chapter 31 - Larger Than Your Diamonds

The banquet hall was huge. Not only was there more than a dozen rosewood tables, there was also a dance floor in the centre of the hall. A few workers could be seen busy decorating and making final adjustments in the hall.

Each table was also decorated with bowls of fruit. It was a buffet-style banquet, where guests could eat as much as they wanted and dance the night away.

Lin Yi and Li Tian were seated at the side, and an attendant poured them red wine as they waited for the banquet to start.

"What the heck is this? It tastes so bad!"

Li Tian exclaimed as soon as he tasted the wine.

Perhaps his voice was too loud because he soon attracted the attention of a crowd of onlookers.

Everyone stared at Li Tian as he downed the entire glass of wine within seconds.

"Country bumpkin!"

Was what they thought. Proper wine etiquette was to take small sips slowly, he looked so unsophisticated in the ways of the world.

Soon, a man stepped up as if he had something to say.

"My friend, you don't drink red wine like that. You have to savour it slowly."

Li Tian was slightly irritated when he saw the judgmental expression on that man's face.

Truth to be told, even Lin Yi herself was embarrassed by Li Tian. At that moment, she really wished she could sit further away from him.

"What? Not like this? But I've always downed it."

Li Tian remarked as he remained unfazed.

"Haha, then you must've been drinking cheap wine. The wine you're drinking today is all from Château Lafite. You can't drink it like that."

"Oh, Lafite, huh? From which year?"

Li Tian asked.

"Umm... It doesn't matter which year, as long as it's Lafite, it won't be cheap."

The man was taken aback by Li Tian's question. After all, not many people were wine experts, even if there were, no one would be able to distinguish Lafites by the year.

"Wait, do you know what Lafite means?"

Li Tian continued to ask.

"Hahaha, my friend, Lafite is the name of this wine. I can't believe you didn't know, you're quite amusing."

That man began to laugh upon hearing Li Tian's question. Soon, more people gathered around to watch.

"Why do people call this kind of wine Lafite?"

Li Tian didn't care about how much attention he was attracting, but Lin Yi, who was beside him, started to feel restless.

Can't he just keep a low profile for once?

"And why would I need to know that?"

"Hahaha..."

Li Tian laughed out loud this time.

"Allow me to enlighten you. The name Lafite came from a winery in France called Lafite, and only wines from that winery are called Lafites. Currently, the best tasting red wine is the one produced by Lafite in the year 1982. This is due to the fact that, during this year, the climate was the most ideal for growing grapes. The winery only produced around 5000 barrels of wine that year, so there shouldn't be many left. A bottle would easily cost hundreds of thousands or even millions of dollars today. Although Lafite 1992 is quite similar to 1982, the price isn't comparable to Lafite 1982. Additionally, high-quality wine should be translucent. Look, if your vision is fine, you should be able to notice sediment has been accumulating in this wine. Lafite has been producing wines for so many years, but only once their wine didn't live up to expectations, which would be the wines from last year. It was because their cellars had been flooded, leading to a decline in wine quality that year. So, Lafite had no choice but to sell everything and clear their stock. If not, do you think a hotel could serve so many bottles of Lafites at once? Now, tell me, was I wrong to say that the wine tasted bad?

Li Tian proudly exclaimed, leaving the crowd of onlookers completely stunned.

Lin Yi, who had been watching him talk, was also surprised. She knew about the origins of the Lafite wine but had no clue about the quality of the wine in such detail. However, she realized that what Li Tian just said was most probably right as she saw some people nod their heads as he spoke.

"You..."

Li Tian's words left that man speechless, and he soon disappeared into the crowd.

So humiliating.

Li Tian shot Lin Yi a smug look as if he was saying 'not bad, huh?'

Lin Yi simply asked, "You know a lot about red wines?"

"Nope, I was reading off of my phone. Look, the webpage is still up."

Li Tian showed his phone to Lin Yi. He had a webpage displayed, and the title read, 'How To Identify Lafites'.

"What a coxcomb, I can't believe you did that."

Lin Yi initially thought that Li Tian really knew how to identify wines, but she never expected that he was bluffing the entire time.

Although Lin Yi wasn't a wine enthusiast herself, she still thought that her man could be a little more useful.

Following this, some ladies walked over, and a smile spread across Lin Yi's face.

These people were VIPs, and also the reason why Lin Yi chose to attend the banquet.

She needed some people to open the way for her new products each year, and these people were perfect for the job.

"Xiao Yi, I see that you've got company today? Don't you usually come to events like this alone?"

One of the ladies in her mid-thirties asked.

They were all beautiful, and of course, married into rich families.

"Sister Wu, he's my husband."

Lin Yi said whilst keeping her head down. Li Tian was confused upon seeing her lower her head. Am I that embarrassing to you?

Li Tian was right, Lin Yi lowered her head sheepishly as she had felt awkward saying that Li Tian was her husband,

"What? You're Xiao Yi's husband? Let me see. How did you get to marry such a fine woman like her?"

Li Tian couldn't do much whilst the ladies stared at him.

"I don't see anything special. Are you a rich heir? What did you give to Xiao Yi when you married her?"

Miss Wu stretched her left hand out and a large diamond ring could be seen on her ring finger. This ring would easily cost a million dollars.

Li Tian shyly claimed that the bracelet he gave Lin Yi had bigger diamonds than the lady's ring.

Diamonds are diamonds, how can you compare them to stones?

"Oh? Not bad. Xiao Yi, show us! I haven't seen diamonds bigger than the one on my ring for a long time now."
