Asher was expressionless as the butler spoke.

Claire was surprised. Asher was going to deliver his gift for her personally?

In the previous years, Mr. Jones would always be the one to pick the gift and send it to her under Asher’s name.

Claire raised her head silently in an attempt to steal a glance at Asher. Coincidently, Asher happened to be looking at her as well.

Another wave of shock washed over her.

In Claire’s eyes, Asher was such an oppressive figure that she lost all her usual calmness whenever she was around him.

The butler remained silent, and Asher did not say a word. Of course, Claire kept her mouth shut and the room suddenly became silent once again.

“Are you afraid of me?”

Claire did not know when Asher walked up to her. He lowered his head as he looked at her and asked in a soft voice.

Claire shook her head.

“Really?”

“Yes,” Claire answered, “you’re my savior, and I’m grateful that you changed my life forever. Why would I be afraid of you? I just… admire you a great deal.”

Asher seemed to have blinked at her words.

Claire could not read him at all. She thought to herself that if anyone could read his mind, it would be his faithful assistant, Mr. Jones.

Asher slightly turned his body, and his necktie followed his movement. He then said, “It’ll be best if you’re not afraid of me.”

Claire was wondering what he meant by that when he suddenly asked the butler, “Do you have all her personal documents?”

“They’re all prepared, Mr. Kens.”

“Alright.” Asher nodded and threw her a glance. “Claire, follow me.”

It was Asher’s first time calling her name.

His voice was deep and magnetic. When he said her name, it sounded seductive and it sent a tingle down Claire’s spine.

“Mr… Mr. Kens, where are we going?”

“I’m giving you a marvelous gift this year.”

After Asher said that, he walked toward the door without a stop. Claire looked at his silhouette as he walked away, and she remained where she was with her mouth gaping wide.

It was the butler who came over and reminded her softly, “Miss, you have to keep up with Mr. Kens. You shouldn’t make him wait.”

“Right… I’ll get going then.”

Claire responded and quickly followed along.

She did not dare to get too close to Asher, yet she did not want to lose him. She followed him out of the mansion.

When they stepped out of the mansion, Asher suddenly halted and Claire quickly stopped herself as well.

A breeze swept through them and she caught a whiff of Asher’s cologne.

This man who appeared withdrawn and used his words sparingly now stood in front of Claire, with his back against her. Claire felt surreal.

She suddenly had the urge to know what he was thinking, and she wanted to get closer to him.

The name Asher Kens would always inexplicably make people feel in awe, and it would also make all the ladies in Melford City go crazy.

“Claire…” She heard Asher mutter to himself, “What a good name.”

After saying that, he walked toward the car parked by the garden. The driver opened the door for him and he bent down to get into the car. The window then slowly rose.

Claire walked to the car as well, and she was hesitating if she should get in. After all, Asher did not say anything about riding with her. It would be another embarrassment if she misunderstands and gets in against his wishes.

She had already embarrassed herself twice in front of Asher today.

Just then, someone from the back came over to her and whispered, “Miss, your car is at the back.”

“Mr. Jones?”

“It’s me, Miss.”

She did not expect Mr. Jones to be around as well. However… it would delight her if she rode in the same car with Asher..
